    Strain issues

    • Written by from West Lafayette

After 1.5 years of using this adapter, it got strain relief problems and I have to change position of my computer 10 times to find a spot it will charge. On apple website, it says this is a known issue so they will change it free of charge, but when I brought in my adapter, they refused. so 0 stars for this. 1.5 is not enough for me to pay $79 again for apple's faulty device.

Failure right out of the box

    • Written by from Sunnyvale

My company bought a spare set of power adapter for me to use at home and on the road. Out of the box, it blinked green and orange lights a few time then completely went dead and no charging. The one comes with my MBP however worked well so far. At $80 a piece, I do not expect this poor quality from Apple products. I with I can give it zero star and started to miss my Lenovo Thinkpad.

    Frustrated by the power adapter

    • Written by from Buxton

It only takes a slight touch for the power adaptor to disconnect from the computer. Many times I think it's charging and I'll see the low battery warning because the magnet has let go (again!) unknown to me.

    Big Step Backwards

    • Written by from Arlington

I never had any issues with the L-shaped MagSafe (previous iteration), but this one is terrible. Holding your laptop on your lap, the plug gets dislodged with the slightest tension. To the reviewers who are saying that's the point of the MagSafe...no it's not. The purpose of it is to prevent plug and port damage, neither of which occurred with the last version of this power adapter. The port and pins are so shallow that it would be nearly impossible to damage the port by pulling the plug out, and the alternative is this one that falls out if you apply pressure up or down at all. Not sure how this thing ever made it past QA testing.

This charger frays so easily, and you expect me to pay $79 for another one? Why don't you just make your products so that they last?

    Charger is buggy :(

    • Written by from Hong Kong

I got my laptop (MBP retina 13") just a few weeks ago and the charger that came with it is so buggy, when I plug it into my computer, it says it is charger, but when I check it 5 minutes later it says its not charging and the light is off. I have to reconnect the charger each time for it to actually "charge", so buggy -.-

Takes forever to connect to my computer, charge

    • Written by from Rockwall

The charger takes about 30 seconds to show the secure connection light, (green, orange) and does not show it is charging the computer for up to two minutes. Also, the charger magnet is not strong enough.

    OVERHEATS... Beware!

    • Written by from Los Alamos

I have this adaptor on a new MacBook Pro, and frankly it just doesn't keep up with graphics-intensive games. I let the battery get low (unplugged), then the system warned me so I plugged it in. I was playing a GPU-intensive game, but I thought "Hey, no problem. The charger will keep me going!". Wrong!

About 45 minutes later, I get another low battery warning even though the adaptor is plugged in. I look over and the light is out - not green, not orange, just gone. I check and sure enough, the adaptor is still plugged in. After quickly quitting my game, I plug and unplug the adaptor to no avail. It simply will not charge the Macbook. After feeling the adaptor, I can see why - it is burning hot. I can't even hold it in my hands. For $80, why can't Apple design a better product? I have owned both previous incarnations of the Magsafe 1 and they work fine. I don't understand why this one is so terrible.

    Absolutely Rubbish

    • Written by from New York

I have been using macs for a very long time and never have i had a issue with the charger wires tearing apart. Now i do travel around the world a lot and this one has been in my procession for 3 years. It gave up on me and the price of the charger is unreasonable, my charger started tearing after a few months.

Horrible shape and magnet strength for a portable computer

    • Written by from Charlotte

The T-shape is so thick that the slightest bump knocks the charger out of place. This is beyond a safety feature and into the single most frustrating part of this entire computer. I can't move the computer, my *portable* laptop computer, at all lest the charger fall out and flop onto the floor. The weight of the cord itself even pulls the charger out if it is coiled at the wrong angle on my desk. This shape is horrible for a laptop, and the material is exactly the same as the L-shape. Why simply change the shape when the complaints about the L-shape chargers were based on the easily degradable rubber material to begin with?

    On my third

What an awful shoddy piece of equipment. How could a charger to a computer be made so poorly!? The MacBook Pro Retina is by far the best laptop this company has ever made but seriously this is just poorly made charger (I don't know how strongly I can stress this sentiment, they should honestly replace the first for free). Apple should be ashamed at the overall rating of this product, or at least they would of been under the Steve Jobs regime. Maybe I'm being a bit too cynical here, but as a long standing customer and advocate I guess I just expect better from this company.

    Utter garbage

    • Written by from Sydney

I've had two of these fail now. It is completely unacceptable that such a basic piece of equipment is so unreliable. When I was a first year engineering student we learnt how to build power supplies, they aren't rocket science.

It's doubly galling that a 6 year old power supply on my $500 Dell laptop still works fine, yet I've had two fail on my $4000 (AUD) MacBook. No more form over function for me, hence no more Apple products.

Would give it 0 stars if I could...

    • Written by from Long Beach

This charger is absolutely horrible. Had a 2007 MacBook Pro and the charger didn't have any problems for over 5 years. With this new cable for my 2011 MacBook Pro, I've already gone through two MagSafe chargers at $80 a pop. Apple, please get your house in order. The build quality of your accessories did a complete 180 and is utter garbage now...

Frays so easily that I'm going Windows

    • Written by from Montreal

Apple has created yet another flimsy charger that frays so easily that it becomes a fire hazard in 3-6 months. This is true even if you're like me and you take every precaution. I don't wrap my cord, I always check that it doesn't have any stress placed on it, etc. Less than a year in and it's already frayed in two places (and admittedly has been a fire hazard for at least 4 months now). I have a two year AppleCare plan and I'm still supposed to drop $90+ on a new charger because of Apple's own negligence? No thank you. I'm out.

    • Written by from Riverwoods

Great design, nice magnetic connector, yet a totally non functional charger. Frayed wires in 2 locations after less than a year (yeah, yeah it's under warranty).

What was I supposed to do for replacement in the middle of the jungles of Mexico? Dependability rating of this charger is a 1/10

    Disappointed

    • Written by from Hollywood

    Apple,
I love your products. I use them as a professional to work and they usually never let me down. But the MagSafe2 Power Adapter is not acceptable.

First, after 18 months the power cord to the MacBook regularly breaks. I always use my gear often, but I also try to be very careful with it. But, no chance. The plastic softener seems to disappear after around 2 years. As a consequence the cable is super sensitive to any form of movement which leads to a broken cable which is not usable anymore.

Second, the T-Adapter. As many many people complained already the T Adapter is not good design. It always falls of while working with the lap on my labs which can be not good for the internal battery life of my retina mac.

Please Apple listen and revise this product. We are willing to pay the extra buck but please don't give us reasons to complain about you. Money is not everything.

    Think different!

    Charger is bunk!

    • Written by from los angeles

I spent $3k on my macbook pro. It's a little over a year old and the charger has already stopped working. How is that even possible? I'm so careful with this computer and accessories. It appears to have no defects and the light stays green as if it is charged and it's not. Pretty frustrating.

Apple should be embarrassed for this failure of a product

    • Written by from Windsor

One year now, I think I have had to re-apply this adaptor about 3 or 4 times per day because it falls off so easily. Do I want to plug my computer in 1,000 times per year? No. It's annoying as anything.

And this one frays too. Just like the one before. And the one before. And the one before. 20 years of using laptops and never have I had a single manufacturer make a bad cable. Toshiba, Dell, etc. But Apple? Every cable frays after about 1 year. If you're not in the USA ... TOO BAD FOR YOU BUY A NEW ONE.

This product only gets worse every year, I don't know how they can't fix this fraying issue and also make a plug that doesn't fall out if you tap the laptop. Really, for shame, for what you charge for these things you need to come up with some basic engineering solutions. The page on Apple support is a major joke... basically "how to use your power cord". Show me any other manufacturer that has to have a dedicated web page for how to use their power cord. It reminds me of the iPhone problems with shorting out the antenna and Apple's response was "hold your phone correctly."

No Apple, how about you design us a product that does not have major flaws in the design? Give us something that works. You shouldn't need to put up 20 photos showing "poor use" of the power cable. Power cables have been around for 100 years and you can't make one that lasts more than 6 months without utterly failing, let alone one that will stay plugged into the computer? What a joke.
