    Something is wrong with this.

    • Written by from Saint-Brieuc

The new magsafe (2) is really badly designed, if disconnects constantly. The T shape is a step back. Why would anyone want to go back to a solution which has so many disadvantages?

When the computer sits on my desk, I often wonder how i got to deplete the battery. The problem comes from the cheap magnet in the new magsafe. It disconnects at any occasion, shuffling some papers around is enough... I never had this kind of problems with my previous macs. This is a step backward for apple.

On my laps the magsafe rarely remains connected, I gave up. Now I use the computer disconnected when I'm not at my desk.

The rMBP is gorgeous, but the new magsafe single handedly spoils the experience.

Really annoying. Everything else on the retina MBP is sweet, but I don't see how this passed user testing.

    Giant step backwards

    • Written by from Sammamish

I really dislike the new MagSafe 2 connector, it comes out at least 10 times a day. Never had this problem with the previous MagSafe (both T and L designs). At this point I'd prefer an actual plug and risk my 3k rMBP hitting the floor a few times.

    HORRIBLE

    • Written by from Irvine

    CONS:

1.) T design head is the worst. It needs to be a L design like MagSafe1. This is an apple design flaw. T design deeps falling off, very very annoying. It's disappointing that the new design is a downgrade from the predecessor.

2.) While running a high resource environment, the power supply burns up insanely to a point it is almost hostile.

    PRO:

    none compared to MagSafe (original)

    As bad as everyone says.

    • Written by from Austin

The best way to describe my disappointment is by comparing this product to my last Apple power adapter: My previous MacBook Pro lasted 6 years and the power adapter lasted just as long, despite weekly national and international travel, use, and abuse. The old cords did not split or fray. This adapter is barely nine months old and only travelled by air once. Daily, I travel about four miles round trip to school and back with the computer and adapter properly stored in a briefcase. At seven months, through routine use, the thinner cord frayed and split right as it exits the transformer. Absurd that Apple, a company that I am normally ecstatic over, does not fess up to this default and do something to make it right.

"T" shaped adapter is the worst idea ever Apple ever adopted.

    • Written by from Charlotte

If you're using your macbook pro on...oh, say...your lap (it is a laptop computer anyway)...the t-adapter is not only in the way, but becomes constantly disconnected. apple did a great thing to go with the "L" shaped adapter, only to go back to the [much-worse] "T" shaped adapter. Very unhappy with Apple's decisions in the post-Jobs era. Seems like everything is getting just a bit worse little-by-little.

    Be careful with these things.

    • Written by from NR

I'm buying my third one. This time I'll reinforce the cord before it starts to break. At least I learned my lesson. The neck of the charger frays so easily. Yes, part of it is that I am an idiot, but the other part is that these things are way too fragile. If I'm going to pay 80 dollars for a charger, I think I deserve a product that can take a bit of wear and tear. Its not like I'm abusing the thing, but I take my computer many places and the charger follows. It doesn't travel well. It starts tearing way to fast. I think Apple could easily make a better charger.(but why do that when your product costs 80$, needs to be replaced every 6 months and your customers are loyal and don't have an alternative, right?)
On a positive note, it charges nicely and doesn't over-heat too easily.

    Broken after only 14 Months

    • Written by from Arezzo

After 14 months of using this adapter, moving it from the desk no more than 5 times, has suddenly stopped working. Very disappointed by Apple for a product from 79 €. 0 stars for this article at 79 €, 2 stars if it had cost 30 €!

Failure right out of the box

    • Written by from Sunnyvale

My company bought a spare set of power adapter for me to use at home and on the road. Out of the box, it blinked green and orange lights a few time then completely went dead and no charging. The one comes with my MBP however worked well so far. At $80 a piece, I do not expect this poor quality from Apple products. I with I can give it zero star and started to miss my Lenovo Thinkpad.

Horrible shape and magnet strength for a portable computer

    • Written by from Charlotte

The T-shape is so thick that the slightest bump knocks the charger out of place. This is beyond a safety feature and into the single most frustrating part of this entire computer. I can't move the computer, my *portable* laptop computer, at all lest the charger fall out and flop onto the floor. The weight of the cord itself even pulls the charger out if it is coiled at the wrong angle on my desk. This shape is horrible for a laptop, and the material is exactly the same as the L-shape. Why simply change the shape when the complaints about the L-shape chargers were based on the easily degradable rubber material to begin with?

Less than 6 months old and already fickle

    • Written by from Raleigh

Unlike others I have no problem with the strength of the magnet that connects the power cord to the laptop. However, when I connect the power cord, it doesn't always begin charging (and light does not come on). It's as if it is not connected. I have to fiddle with it; disconnecting and reconnecting repeatedly until the adapter decides to cooperate. More than a little annoying.

    Horrible product

    • Written by from Oakland

I cannot believe I just spent $90 (with tax) on such an inferior product. I almost don't care that Apple doesn't innovate like it used to when Steve Jobs was alive, but please please please at least keep up with what he built. This power adapter does not stay on and fray after a year or two. I would give it zero star if I could.

    awful :(

    • Written by from Amherst

The magnet in these chargers are too weak. If I move my computer and the cord pulls slightly the whole thing flies off so easily, or if I rest my computer on my lap the adapter pushes up and unplugs because it sticks out so far. My old charger stayed in nicely and wasn't so obnoxious (L shape version). so bummed and frustrated with it.

    Pathetic

    • Written by from oakland

I have to buy a new one of these every 8-12 months. Both ends of the thin section of the cord start peeling away revealing the fiber wires inside. I have no time or patience to look up a "how to solder your macbook charger" to attempt to fix it. I really hope Apple finds a way to make these chargers more durable. I also hope Apple finds a way to make my charger to not look EXTREMELY dirty after 1 month of traveling in my backpack.

Absolutely horrible design. Why did you break something that worked fine?

    • Written by from Westminster

I hate this power supply. If I look at it wrong it falls out of my Retina, 13-inch, Mid 2014 Macbook Pro. Any bump or movement and it falls out. If Jobs was still around this would not be sold and someone would have been fired by now. This needs to fit in a little deep or have a much stronger magnet to hold it more securely in place. The design of the power adapted on my other Mac points forward or backwards and is much better. It doesn't stick out as far so it's not getting bumped and knocked out of place like this one. But Apple had to change the charging port design again so I'm stuck with this piece of junk charger.

When I pay 3x the price of a PC laptop I really expect better than this Apple!

Burned Itself Out. I've Never Been More Disappointed.

    • Written by from Sudbury

My first charger burned itself out in less than 7 months. I bought another for 80 bucks, and this one burned itself out again. COME ON PEOPLE. If you are going to make a junk product, make it cheap. If you are going to charge me through the roof, try and make a decent product. I am 100% switching back to PC's. I've had laptops for 1/4th the price, and last so much longer. Mac's are the divas of all computers.

    A waste of time

    • Written by from Orlando

What a waste of money, of my time and your time, Apple.

Stop wasting money, and cutting corners and actually make the macbook pro chargers durable, and worth the price.
Sorry, it's a critical thing to say, but if you want great ratings with returning and new customers that can recommend your product, then make your accessories better.
This seriously does not deserve a blue star. I wish I could give this 5 gray stars with this review.

I hope you make your accessories better.
