    Bad charger connection

    • Written by from Travers city

After only 3 months of use. The charger now falls out when resting on a desk and charging. The magnet cannot support the weight of the cord. I have to jiggle the the connector around for it to make a proper connection. I'm afraid this action will lead to a poorer and poorer connection because the connector does not fit as tightly as it first did. I hope I can still charge my computer a year from now. I otherwise live the computer but if I can't charge it what is the point. When I first bought it the connector was very difficult to pull out. Now that gravity is pulling it down and out I wonder if the problem is the type of metal the computer is made of. It seems to me the part where the connector goes in is looser and this is causing the problem. The magnet required a bit of a tug to remove in the beginning and this may have caused damage over time.

    poor design

    • Written by from Tulsa

Same experience as most of the other commenters. disconnects much too easily. sticks out to the side instead of towards the back. can't use the LAPtop on my LAP and expect to charge it at the same time. must set it still on a desk to charge, otherwise I am constantly reconnecting it. If the resultant multiple short charge cycles kill my battery, I'll be expecting Apple to replace the battery for free.

    Terrible profile

I hate that this new power adapter sticks out so far from the side of the MacBook Pro. I hate that I can't lean it on its side without the power adapter falling out. I liked the first magsafe because it was more flush and didn't come out as easy when you leaned the laptop on its side. COME ON APPLE! WHY ARE YOU RUINING A GREAT DESIGN!

    0 star product

This item is disappointing. I'm not sure how this device passed QA due to it it disconnecting way too easy for practical use. Better off using previous the generation magsafe + adapter.

This charger is absolutely AWFUL! It disconnects on the slightest movement of my mac. I find myself having to reconnect it over and over. Design is completely FLAWED! Apple PLEASE redesign this thing!!!!!

    T-style adapter is TERRIBLE!

    • Written by from Washington

I wish Apple had kept the L-shaped adapter. The T-shaped one on this new MagSafe 2 charger is very sensitive to forces and moments - just the slightest nudge unplugs it. I find this to be very frustrating. My old MBP had the L-shaped one and it was very secure, and disconnected only at the appropriate times. This was a poor engineering design choice by Apple (a rare one, thankfully).

Worst magsafe adapter I've ever used

    • Written by from Newmarket

I've used many magsafe adapters, and never before had the problem of the cable detaching. This one falls off almost every time I move my Macbook Pro. At first I thought it must be catching on something, but I eliminated that possibility and through experimentation found that the cable simply detaches when the computer's moved — even when it's moved gently.

It's incredibly annoying to have to keep reaching down to the floor to plug my computer back in. And then to have to do the same 30 seconds later. At this point I feel like returning the entire computer.

    Absolutely horrible

    • Written by from Montreal

By far the worst apple product I have ever owned, and I own quite a few. The original Magsafe (barrel type) charger was an improvement over the square type, and now they have gone back and made it even worst! I can't even begin to count how many times the charger has disconnected itself while charging because it simply doesn't stay connected.

I would give it 0 stars if I could.

Another piece of junk comes from Apple again!!!!!!

Magnet is extremely weak. Moving the laptop around a little bit will cause detachment. Connector gets too hot too quick. Get your act together Apple.

    Terrible

I've used a laptop with an L charger for years and thought it was the smartest charger ever. Now upgraded to a retina display laptop and have been lumbered with the T charger, it's terrible. All it does is fall out, constantly. How did Apple get it so terribly wrong?!

    • Written by from St. Rose

Jonathan Ive, would please fix this? I just got this top of the line 15" retina Macbook Pro, (spent $3500 !) and the dang magnetic power adapter plug that came with this, always come off? I would want this fixed! I'm love Apple products, BUT THIS IS LAME to say the least!!! Apple should redesign a plug that stay in there and replace it asap!

    Poor design

    • Written by from Havertown

As others have stated, the Magsafe 2 detaches way too easily.

I understand the purpose of the connector. It is supposed to detach in the event you trip over a cord. Previous versions of this connector provided this functionality without constantly detaching during normal operation.

Your laptop does not run at full speed unless it is plugged in. If you are doing something processor-intensive, you should be plugged in. With this adapter, it is an absolute pain to remain plugged in unless you are sitting at your desk. A lot of the more positive comments here suggest people only use the adapter for charging. Run some benchmarks on your laptop plugged in vs. not plugged in. You will be in for a surprise.

This will disconnect if you do any of the following:
    - Put it on a pillow
    - Put it on your bed
    - Put it on your sofa
    - Put it on your car seat
    - Put it on your lap

An otherwise excellent laptop is marred by this poor design.

    Terrible Charger

    • Written by from Brunswick East

This is the worst charger in the world. I does not do the job at all. I am constantly putting it back in when it has fallen out and then I have to fiddle with it to get it to charge. I hope apple listens to all these bad reviews and make another charger that will fit and do the job intended. I have given it one star but that is just because it wont let me give it 0.

    • Written by from murfreesboro

ok, so Apple prides itself on design. the design isn't the problem, it looks good and sorta does what it is supposed to do. what do i mean by sorta? well, the purpose of the magsafe adapters is for the power cord to break away without dragging the laptop along for the ride. what everyone complains about, and rightfully so, is that the adapter disconnects WAY too easily when force is applied in an up or down motion, and way too easy is an understatement. if you pull the cord to the front or back, or straight out the adapter provides sufficient resistance before finally disconnecting. it is as if the adapter stays on too much or is too easily disconnected, not an elegant design worthy of Apples self appointed accolades. if you keep your rMBP on a desk and never move it the adapter works great, BUT just try and pick it up and keep the adapter connected.

I much prefer the older MagSafe power cord. The one that came with my new MBPr pops out far too easily. I regularly find my battery almost depleted because the cord came out without my knowing.
