MagSafe 2: The worst thing about Retina MacBook Pros

    • Written by from Marlborough

My MagSafe 2 connector comes unplugged at least 3 times a day. It seems Apple has stopped testing their products. No one should have let this go into production. Two of my other Macs started crashing with new OSX releases. Then iOS 6 Maps. Why do faults like this keep happening over and over again in Apple products? It's no wonder that their stock has dropped 200 points in 3 months.

    Awful

    • Written by from CUPERTINO

This is probably the weakest magnet ever, it falls out whenever I put into my computer and move my computer in the slightest. I'm sorry but this was a really bad way to follow up the old charger. I hope Apple does something about it.

Like everyone else said - magnet is too weak and falls out all the time

    • Written by from Schwenksville

If you so much as pick the laptop up the power cable falls out. Tonight it fell out and my dog quietly grabbed it and chewed it up while I was using the computer. I have picked this thing up and plugged it back in about a million times in the couple of months that I have had this computer. Absolutely annoying poor design, and now quite expensive as well. This cord is in need of redesign.

    The plug that unplugs....constantly

    • Written by from Lakewood

I have actually stopped working, Googled this adapter and logged in to vent about this re-design/un-design.

I know Apple has more money than God now and, apparently, can do pretty much as it pleases, but what the @#$#! ? Is there no time or money or care to user test these things? And if this laptop were some cheapo rig from Dell or Toshiba or whomever makes them these days, then it would be a case of you get what you payf for. But, I'm not getting what I paid for here.

Echoing other comments that the plug sticks out too far the making it too easy to knock out of the socket.

Who knows maybe they think no one actual charges their MacBooks while working or works anywhere but on a desk, regardless I would expect to see version two of this adapter revert to a stronger magnet and the L-shape.

    So Annoying!

    • Written by from Covington

The strength of this adapter is extremely weak and very ANNOYING. It pulls out at the slightest touch. I don't give a hoot what shape the darn thing is (but I do prefer the L-shape)--I just want it to stay put with light use. This is a big fail for Apple, in my opinion. Especially for a $2400 computer.

    Falls Out Too Easily. Awful

    • Written by from Silver Spring

The MagSafe 2 is a complete downgrade from original magsafe.
The worst part being the weak magnet. Or it might just be due to it's rectangular shape instead of the cylindrical shape like the previous Magsafe, but if the plug is not perfectly horizontal with your MacBook IT WILL FALL OUT.

    It falls out too easily.

The worst implementation of the best idea.

    • Written by from Thornton

The MagSafe2 adapters stink. They fall out constantly. The old MagSafe adapters only fell out when they were supposed to--like when someone trips on your power cord. The MadSafe2 will fall out each time you use the laptop on your lap (get it lap top) and lean 1" left or right.

Bad Enough Charger to Avoid the Computer as a Product Entirely

    • Written by from New York

The Macbook Air is great for simplicity - as long as you charge it at night, you'll be good during the day. Charge during your busy work schedule, and you'll wanna blow your brains out because of the terrible charger that comes with all apple laptops. The magnet on this laptop charger is absolutely despicable, falls out, and fails in every possible charging situation besides when you leave the computer completely alone for several hours. I didn't buy a laptop to have it be used like a tower computer - when I put it in my lap, as the name implies, forget the charger - its guaranteed to fall out.

    Terrible Quality

    • Written by from Durham

I have had my rMBP magsafe for a little less than six months now and the charger is already starting to show signs of wear, with the rubber around either end of the cord starting to split. This is very frustrating given that I have always been quite careful with the cord. While I recognize these chargers were not built to last forever, I would at least hope that when I pay upwards of $2,000 for a laptop one of its most vital components doesn't start to fail within six months. Do better Apple.

Won't Last and Incredibly Over Priced

    • Written by from LaGrange

This product will not last you more than a year. My original adapter lasted just over a year before the cord was completely shredded and I was forced to pay the disgusting amount for a replacement. It probably would have lasted longer if my laptop sat on the same desk and never moved, but if I was going to let my computer sit in the same place I wouldn't have bought a laptop. A laptop is meant to be portable. Why create an adapter that will not be able to handle the small amount of stress careful transportation creates? I take good care of my technology but this product was not meant to last.

Note to Apple: Fix this. If there are so many negative reviews, maybe it is time to rethink your design.

Apple fixed something that wasn't broken - and made it worse

    • Written by from FAYETTEVILLE

I can't believe they actually paid an entire team of engineers for more than a year to redesign the power connector on the MacBook Pro - and they blew it. They've got this so messed up it's unusable. Apple's new design is fragile, with just a slight weight of the cable itself will pull the plug out from the computer. We've got a $4500 Retina, and we have to duct-tape the power supply to the computer. If we don't glue it on, we look up to see the machine's battery surprisingly gone dead with the cord on the floor. Ridiculous.

I hear Kensington is about to release a power supply with a "new" size, but with the old "L" shaped fitting that worked for 10 years (that actually stays put and doesn't fall out).

We didn't NEED a new size. We didn't NEED a new connector. We didn't NEED to replace the "L" connector. It was all fine, Apple. Talk about missing Steve -

    not worth the $

    • Written by from edmonds

I got a macbook pro with retina display in october, I love the computer but the power cord not so much! It get rips in it when coil it using the little hooks, now mine looks like a mummy with all the patches of electrical tape. It also over heats if you try to charge your laptop for over an hour. Over all I was expecting a little bit more for my money, I take good care of my electronics they should last at least a year!

    Hate the "New" Adapter

    • Written by from Houston

Absolutely unbelievable for a Laptop power connector to NOT stay connected when its on your LAP! Hello Apple, WHAT ARE YOU THINKING? Never had a problem with the old adapter. Why did you have to change it? What "benefit" do we get with this new adapter? Did you forget these laptops might not be used at a desk and people will need a power cable ATTACHED for extended use? This adapter is totally unacceptable! Is there a fix so we can actually use our laptops without holding the adapter with one hand or balancing everything "just right"?

    Falls out!

    • Written by from Nine Mile Creek

The magnet is so weak that the weight of thin part of the power cord alone is sometimes enough force to remove the magnet. This really frustrates me as every time the cord falls out it is wasting a cycle of my battery's life. It would be great if this was remedied. and a new cable was to replace this one on a recall.
