    So much negative feedback?

    • Written by from BORONIA

Not sure why all the negative reviews about the MagSafe 2. As a charger it works perfectly, no overheating so far (as experienced in earlier models), and the connector seems to be a perfect combination of magnetic 'stickability' versus accidental tear out. From working in an environment where we are walking over leads constantly, my MBPwR has been saved at least a dozen times already. From my perspective, its great!

Best power supply on the market - bar none

    • Written by from LONDON

I'm not sure what adapter other reviewers are using - there is no way possible that this adapter falls out "when just touching the Mac".

And thanks for going back to the "T" design. The "L" shaped adapter was (possibly) easier to position in some circumstances, but it didn't do what it was supposed to -- a pull parallel to the cord could (and did) pull laptops off your desk. And the small barrel of the L adapter led to careless people using the cord to pull the adapter off the laptop when it was time to pack up. Not surprisingly _these_ are the same people that have problems with their cords fraying. Yet it's somehow Apple's problem ;-) The T adapter has a nice metal structure that you can use to break the magnetic connection.

    Great design! Great Product!

    • Written by from North Adams

I've had my new Macbook Pro Retina for about 8 months now and I can't believe all the bad reviews everyone is giving it! I never once had an issue with it falling out to easily. When it has come out, its a good thing it did because otherwise I'm sure over time all the accidental pulling that occurs would have damaged the cord if not my laptop. A great example is when my two year old is running around and accidentally trips on the cord, if it didn't have this magnetic design then either the laptop would of ended up on the floor or the port would get damaged from all the yanking on it so I give them 5 stars on design and quality. Exactly what I expected. Thanks Apple!!

    Works Great!

    • Written by from Hilton

I don't understand what folks are talking about regarding the magnet being too weak. Mine stays put quite perfectly and requires a pretty significant sideways twist to dislodge. Are people running down the street with these things? I am regularly on my MBP Pro Retina 15" with this charger in place up to 13 hours a day on my electrical engineering job. I've NEVER had the MagSafe dislodge unintentionally. The cables are also long enough to handle every situation I've encountered. Excellent product.

    Very perplexing remarks here

    • Written by from DULUTH

I just received my MBP Retina, and the magnet is as strong or stronger than the magnet on my MBP 17"! This leads me to believe that a bad batch of cords got out there, and those experiencing this problem should (MUST) report this to Apple. Carping about it here will do no one any good - least of all those experiencing this problem!

    About that "weakness" issue...

    • Written by from Eugene

I just received my Macbook Pro with Retina today and after reading constant reviews about how easily the magsafe 2 adapter came out, I was ready to be disappointed. Well after trying it out today, I am very pleasantly surprised. It doesn't quite snap in as easily as the first generation t-shape but once you get it in there it stays very well. Other reviews had mentioned the adapter coming out from simply picking up the laptop and moving it, well I just spent a whole minute shaking it harder and harder. I did manage to make the connecter fall out once by waving my computer around like a maniac but before that I was moving it around pretty fast and it stayed in perfectly. If it does come out easier than the first gen, it's not much easier. Maybe Apple silently fixed this issue throughout production, but I can confirm that the slimmer magsafe 2 adapter that came with my rMBP today works wonderfully. Hope this helps :)

    Perfect Charger!!!!

    • Written by from Riverside

I am now a spoiled apple owner with the best charger for laptops in the world. The T design is more useful that the L design chargers. I say this because you can flip it either way and use it, unlike the L design covers the thunderbolt and usb ports on my MBP when the cord comes back in towards the inside of the computer.

    No problems here

    • Written by from Limehouse

Not sure whats going on with the rest, but my MBP early 2013 model, the magnet is super strong. Its almost too hard to pull out. (late design change maybe?)

For every one wanting the old "L" shaped adaptor, just get the other 85w version with a mag 2 - mag adaptor. I fail to see how the "t" shape is that big of a problem. But hey, to each their own.

    Perplexed as well

    • Written by from Highland Park

I feel I need to throw some stars at this one to offset what obviously was a batch of bad power cords. I've had my MBPro Retina for a few months, and there is absolutely nothing wrong with the power adapter's magnet. Had I received a faulty adapter, I would have waited to see how Apple responded before vilifying it with a trash review.

    So far so good

    • Written by from Martinez

I was dismayed when I saw how poorly reviewed this product was, especially because (generally speaking) I am an Apple hater. But I purchased a MacBook Pro for video editing (because it is peerless in this regard) and am very pleased with this charger. The magnet snaps on and stays there. If that does not continue to be the case I will update this review.

    Works fine, ordering more

    • Written by from La Honda

Works fine for me, maybe I'm not as picky as most of the reviewers. I'm ordering more, rather than ordering the adapter, so as to not introduce any other magnet issues or profile ("sticking-out-the-side-of-laptop") issues.

    Why so much negative feedback

    • Written by from Bratislava

I'm a huge Apple fan, and did not have only one MacBook Pro. I bought the rMBP and the MagSafe 2 Power Adapter is fine. It saved my MacBook many times. If I just think about this, all the other computers in the world don't have this magnet feature, so if I would have any other computer than my mac, the computer would be destroyed. I think people are too picky when they talk about sitting on the couch, in bed, etc. I always use my mac there, and sure it disconnects (if you apply enough pressure), but if you sit normally everything is fine.

    New MagSafe Adapter is excellent!

    • Written by from Poulsbo

I disagree with all of the negative reviews. I Liked the old "T" shaped adapter because it allowed release of the power cord easier. When the "L" shaped adapter came out, it held on so tight that if someone tripped on the cord, it could pull the laptop with it, potentially damaging the cord or worse, pulling the laptop off the table. This would be an even bigger problem with the much lighter MBP (retina). I would rather occasionally have to reconnect the power cord than have to replace expensive hardware. Great job once again Apple!

Not sure what all the negative reviews are about. I have been user this adapter for 8 months now and don't have any problems with it. I am now purchasing a second one so I can keep one at home and 2nd one at the office.

    What's the problem guys???

    • Written by from Carthage

It is GREAT! I've used these for many years with many MB Pros and they are all great - every one of them! I now own the 2nd generation model and it is better than them all. I can't imagine what the problem could be?

For the record - I AM VERY HAPPY WITH THE NEW PRODUCT - IT WORKS VERY WELL, AS THEY ALWAYS HAVE, AND IT IS NOW BETTER THAN EVER!

Others must have a defective charger.

    • Written by from seattle

I have had my retina for a few days now and I must say that I have had NO ISSUES WHATSOEVER with the charger falling out... If I did have an issue, I am certain that apple would replace it for a non defective unit.. It makes me wonder what the others are doing to have the cable fall out so easily...On a side note, THEY ARE NOT BUILT TO BE USED WHILE WALKING AROUND!!

    Design/magnet must have been updated

    • Written by from Greenville

I purchased a rMBP last week with the new MagSafe2 power cord, and the first thing I noticed was has strong the magnet was. It takes considerably more force to remove than the old design.

It seems they might have rectified the issue, I hope this is the new norm for future buyers.

Zero problems with original after 1.75 years

    • Written by from White Lake

I can't understand the ratings for the MBP and rMBP after neither have had any problems other than scratches on the shiny plastic casing of the brick. Now I tend to be OCD with my Macs but I don't even have the seemingly common problem where the adapter doesn't stay connected to the MBP, due to insufficient magnetic power. Then again my MBPs are always on a flat stable surface while connected, NEVER on my lap. That usage just doesn't seem to make sense IMO. My original MBP 13 I would leave connected while in use until I read that's not good for the battery, so now on the rMBP 15 I just charge it when it hits 15-20% remaining. Frayed wire casing?!? Not even close. Maybe if those experiencing this condition left a little slack where it enters the brick before wrapping it that wouldn't happen.. COMMON SENSE.
