Does what it's supposed to do.

I don't quite understand all the complaining. I mean, yes, the connector unplugs easily, and maybe the build quality has been better in my iPod USB Power Adapter some years ago... but the design is fine, the unit is silent, and yes, you can carry your computer around without worrying that it may disconnect.
Except, well, except you trip over it. Of course.
I like everything about the charger.

    Love it.

The magnet is strong enough it never falls out but connects and disconnect easily. It also charges my Mac book very fast.

    Needs a new design.

I have had 3 chargers like this one now and all have broken from the little wire that goes into the box part of the charger. Being that Apple is one of the most expensive and top producers for gadgets to get online you think they would make a better quality charger where the wire is more sturdy and holds up longer. I am very disappointed at the fact that this is the third charger I have bought and it keeps breaking in the same spot. I am very unhappy with it and the price to get a new one is absolutely ridiculous when I know that it will happen again. Either one make the tiny cord as durable as the thicker cord on the other end of the charger or make this charger cheaper because this is ridiculous that no matter what this faulty charger is going to keep breaking and I will have to get a new one at the high price of $80.

    Works Great!

I don't understand what folks are talking about regarding the magnet being too weak. Mine stays put quite perfectly and requires a pretty significant sideways twist to dislodge. Are people running down the street with these things? I am regularly on my MBP Pro Retina 15" with this charger in place up to 13 hours a day on my electrical engineering job. I've NEVER had the MagSafe dislodge unintentionally. The cables are also long enough to handle every situation I've encountered. Excellent product.

    Horrible

I love my macbook, but absolutely HATE this new magsafe adapter. It constantly pops out whenever the laptop is moved and it sticks out way too far. The older generation one was perfect. Hopefully they move back to the older generation one next year.

    Magnet is too weak

    • Written by from Austin

I much prefer the older MagSafe power cord. The one that came with my new MBPr pops out far too easily. I regularly find my battery almost depleted because the cord came out without my knowing.

    No problems here

    • Written by from Limehouse

Not sure whats going on with the rest, but my MBP early 2013 model, the magnet is super strong. Its almost too hard to pull out. (late design change maybe?)

For every one wanting the old "L" shaped adaptor, just get the other 85w version with a mag 2 - mag adaptor. I fail to see how the "t" shape is that big of a problem. But hey, to each their own.

    Worst Charger Ever

    • Written by from Vancouver

As many reviewers have mentioned, the magnet connection of this charger is absolutely despicable. After forking out $2.5k for a laptop, you expect the charger to at least stay plugged without falling out. A change needs to be made back to the L-Shaped connectors, as soon as possible. I currently have to significantly alter how I use my laptop, in an attempt to sit such that my charger will stay plugged in for more than ten seconds at a time. The only redeeming factor of this charger is that it charges so fast I don't have to use it often. If it took as long to charge as the older models, I don't think I could stand using this laptop at all.

PLEASE MAKE AN ALTERNATIVE CHARGER SIMILAR TO THE LAST MAGSAFE

    • Written by from Hockessin

Its amazing how happy I am with everything about my new Retina 15", yet how disappointed I am with the charger. It is so inferior to the previous version, it boggles me why you would feel comfortable including this with your new product. It puts SO many limitations on the usage of my macbook pro. Without a full charge, the computer is almost useless in bed or on the couch. In some ways, it is impossible to position the computer and charge at the same time. In others ways, the charger simply wont stay in unless I perfectly still and keep an eye on it at all times. I had NONE of these issues with the previous magsafe charger. PLEASE offer a version similar to that one for the Retina macbook pros.

    HORRIBLE

    • Written by from Frisco

Apple, I beg you to please make a new L shaped MagSafe 2 with a better magnet. I use my rMBP exclusively on the couch and this new T shaped cord falls out constantly. I hate it. The power cord is ruining my experience with an otherwise perfect computer.

    magnet not strong enough

    • Written by from Breckenridge

the charger pops out at the slightest touch. i'm home rehabbing from surgery and stuck in bed and the charger that was once a little annoying is now extremely annoying. in addition to the weak magnet, you can't put the computer on its left side without losing the charger. please make it stronger or have the L as an option

    Great design! Great Product!

    • Written by from North Adams

I've had my new Macbook Pro Retina for about 8 months now and I can't believe all the bad reviews everyone is giving it! I never once had an issue with it falling out to easily. When it has come out, its a good thing it did because otherwise I'm sure over time all the accidental pulling that occurs would have damaged the cord if not my laptop. A great example is when my two year old is running around and accidentally trips on the cord, if it didn't have this magnetic design then either the laptop would of ended up on the floor or the port would get damaged from all the yanking on it so I give them 5 stars on design and quality. Exactly what I expected. Thanks Apple!!

    MagSafe 2(Poo)

    • Written by from Angleton

I've only had my MBPR 15" for a couple weeks now and I have already knocked it off of my bed twice because I tripped on the MagSafe cord and it yanked the MBPR off of the bed and onto the floor, and it wasn't on the edge of the bed it was at least a foot and a half away from the edge of the bed.

This is a $3000 computer and has a huge design flaw in my opinion. My previous MBP with the original MagSafe adapter never had any issues, and I tripped on it countless times!

To top it off when I'm charging on my lap the slightest little bump knocks it off, but when you pull straight out on the cord the magnet has amazing force. I think this is because of the new thinner design.

Apple, listen up, your obsession with thin has gone too far and made a great invention terrible. The market has moved on, we don't care about thin anymore. We want products that work! You know the way you use to make products!

    Great power cord

    • Written by from Chicago

Are people really whining about the power cord of their $2000 laptop falling out too easy?

I like the design with the magnet, the battery on the 15" Retina lasts so long you should not have to constantly be connect anyways. Plug it in over night or when you are sitting at a desk. C'mon people.

    Actually unbearable

    • Written by from Dix Hills

Cant believe Apple would ship out a product like this! I feel like the adapter owns and controls me. I have to constantly conscious of how I'm sitting, where the cables located, and the movements i make. Absolutely ridiculous! Fix this, i didn't pay a premium for shiny..

    Magnet won't stay put...lousy design

    • Written by from Atlanta

I am extremely disappointed with the new charger for the macbook pro retina. The magnet is weak and unless you put the laptop on a hard surface and don't touch it, it pops out constantly. It is too thin and the slightest movement (even if I just switch positions in my lap it pops out) causes it to fall out. What is worse is that it is so light and flimsy, you don't even realize it has popped out...there is no sound like on the iphone and/or ipad. Apple really needs to rethink the design and implement some changes. For how much I spent on this laptop, I'm not a happy camper that the very thing that gives it power, doesn't work properly. Far too expensive to have such a simple problem.

No idea what they are talking about, this is awesome!

    • Written by from Spring grove

The magnet power connector.. I know how to use it, this is probably why I like it so much, I have walked from one end of the room to the other, I have shook my laptop, TRYING to make it fall off, to no avail it stayed on, sad day for me trying to be a hipster.

I just got a new fully geared and fully ready MacBook Pro /w Retina 15'', This thing converted me from a PC like a boss. I love this thing! Never going back to windows outside of the workplace.

    Unplugged Again!

    • Written by from Escanaba

Searched online to see if anyone else was having issues with this adapter, and see that others have experienced the same problem I am having. I usually use this computer while sitting on the couch, and move it back and forth from the coffee table to my lap. I have found the cord often becomes unplugged. Previously had an MacBook Air, which I used the same way and can't recall having any such issues. The magnet seems strong when plugged in, but if tilted slightly up or down from movement, it falls out. Nothing I can't live with, but mildly annoying.

Apple fixed something that wasn't broken - and made it worse

    • Written by from FAYETTEVILLE

I can't believe they actually paid an entire team of engineers for more than a year to redesign the power connector on the MacBook Pro - and they blew it. They've got this so messed up it's unusable. Apple's new design is fragile, with just a slight weight of the cable itself will pull the plug out from the computer. We've got a $4500 Retina, and we have to duct-tape the power supply to the computer. If we don't glue it on, we look up to see the machine's battery surprisingly gone dead with the cord on the floor. Ridiculous.

I hear Kensington is about to release a power supply with a "new" size, but with the old "L" shaped fitting that worked for 10 years (that actually stays put and doesn't fall out).

We didn't NEED a new size. We didn't NEED a new connector. We didn't NEED to replace the "L" connector. It was all fine, Apple. Talk about missing Steve -
