    Works...but dies easily

    • Written by from Bradenton

I love my 15" MB Pro Retina Display and I can safely say I will be buying another one soon. My issue with these chargers is not the magnet as other posters say, its the working life. I have gone through 3 chargers in the last 3 years for the one computer. I final had to buy a second charger so that I can be prepared for the next time

Bad cord design, weak magnet, low durability

    • Written by from West Vancouver

I've had the L-shaped MagSafe for my 2009 MacBook Pro and strangely, it's never frayed and I've had it under constant usage for 3 whole years. In November of 2013, I made the decision of buying the new retina MacBook Pro Retina and the computer was perfect for what I was using it for, but the MagSafe 2 let me down. My first MagSafe failed in about April of 2014 when the cord near the adapter had frayed and I had no choice but to buy a new one; also, the connection between the MagSafe 2 and my Mac felt a lot weaker than my old L-shaped MagSafe. As of right now (March of 2015), my second MagSafe 2 has just frayed and I've resorted to electrical tape rather than 80 dollars. Please fix this apple.

A frustrating poorly designed money trap.

    • Written by from Phoenix

I am a huge apple fan. However, this charger is a complete outrage. Not only is it extremely over-priced, but it breaks within the year. I have no issue spending money on a great product. This is why I decided to buy a macbook retina. Unfortunately I have bought two of these chargers in the last two and a half years. They break consistently in the same two places over and over again. Apple has made no changes on the charger. I am paying my way through college and $80 is a lot of money to me. To be honest, I am disappointed to the point to tears. I need a charger to use my computer (As a graphic Design major using library computers is not an option) and I don't have enough money to buy one right now. So, I'm screwed. Thanks apple. You guys make great phones and computers but your charger is killing me. I'm upset, disgruntled, disappointed, and I'm not going to lie a little angry. Unless you're willing to spend 80 dollars once a year for a brand new charger I suggest... oh wait. Nothing. If you want a macbook retina you have to spend money you don't have on a charger that's going to break in 12 months. One star is being generous.

HORRIBLE product: weak, delicate, flimsy, frail, fragile, etc.

Just bought my third cord in 3 years. I now treat these things with kid gloves, but the cords *still* get frayed and stop working. [Edit: So I *did* rate it, Apple: I gave it ZERO stars. But apparently I have to be more generous and give it one to convey my displeasure.]

I've had to buy 2 of these replacement plugs since buying my MacBook in 2012. The wire keeps breaking rendering the plug useless. So strange that Apple can make such precise products but can't get a plug right. They should replace these things for free.

Always disconnects from computer. A slight budge will cease the charging of the computer. Also the charger is very poor quality, the same fraying that happens with the iphone chargers happens with these chargers. I feel as if they don't fix this problem intentionally so you have to buy chargers routinely.

    Worst Apple Hardware Product Every

    • Written by from DUBLIN

My Magasfe2 adapter has stopped working after just three months of use. This is bad news because my laptop is now unusable. The horrific expensive price means that I cannot afford a spare one. I generally love apple products and they are well designed, but looks like they really need to focus on the adapters and other accessories instead of designing stupid watches. Now please excuse me as I go waste more time at the apple store to fix this.

Apple will not stand behind this product

    • Written by from La grange

85W MagSafe adapter for MacBook Pro Retina version. The cord failed at the point of attachment to the power adapter and began to fray. Took it to an Apple Store thinking it would be covered under a similar replacement plan for the older MagSafe adapter (there is a class action lawsuit against their older adapter that fails in the same way).

It was not covered. Was told by the kid at the store that I must have wrapped it too tight around the power adapter. I never once wrapped the cord around the adapter - it's mostly used on my desk at work and lies flat on a table. He then proceeded to rip the frayed cord off so I couldn't use it anymore. Paid over $60 for a replacement, and they kept my old one so now I have no further recourse. He was unbelievably rude and condescending in the process.

Would rate this -1 stars if possible. This adapter is a liability, Apple should pay for your homeowner's insurance policy if you have this so in case your house burns down in the process of using it, at least you don't lose everything.

    BEYOND appalled!

    • Written by from Stockbridge

I am a BIO major in my second year of college and I use my laptop EVERYDAY. My MAC is about a year old and the cord of my charger just decided to stop working; at the very end where it attaches to the block part is ripping and the little wires are coming out. Not only am I livid at the fact that my laptop will not be getting charged tonight and that I can't do my homework, but this horrible product is overpriced... $80? Are you kidding me? I paid almost 2 grand for my laptop, and now I have to pay an extra $80 for a charger that is completely awful! For a product that doesn't even last long and that it rips so easily, it's kind of overpriced. Apple needs to come up with a new product with better material. I would rate this product no stars, but I can't..... Be aware that if you have this charger, you will be buying about three or five more in a short period of time.

    Poor Design

    • Written by from New Orleans

The problem with the square design of the magnetic connector is that it sticks out from the computer, giving it more opportunities to get knocked out. And with a weak magnet, this happens much more often than the older tubular design that hugs tightly to the computer and is much less likely to get knocked out. After giving us video professionals the middle finger with FCPX, nothing innovative on the operating system front, and now this poor hardware design, I'm seriously considering changing over my production operation (for a large company) to Windows. My IT guys would love for me to do this, and I just might oblige them.

    Very delicate

    • Written by from Mount Laurel

The thin cord that runs from your laptop to the charging brick has a very weak cord connecting it to the brick. The material around it tears easily exposing the thin cords which also sever soon after. I have gone through 2 of these and at a crazy $79.99 a piece it is getting ridiculously expensive. I expect better if I'm going to spend thousands on your computers.

I agree with those calling for stronger magnets on the charger's connector to the laptop. Current model is too weak. Care must be taken with the next chargers to not over compensate.

    • Written by from Maineville

My wife and I both own Macbook Pro Retinas. Both adapters have shorted out near the T and we have been relatively gentle with our equipment. I'm a little surprised that these adapters ever passed Apple's product approval process. They seem inferior to past generations.

On a positive note, I am still very happy with my computer.

Doesn't work as well as previous power adapters

    • Written by from Newark

I've used the previous "L" and "T" adapters for years and never had an issue. This MagSafe 2 has a weak magnetic connection and falls out very easily. I also need to wiggle it quite a bit for it to start charging. If I didn't need it to power my new Macbook, I would just disregard it altogether. I've had it for just a few weeks and it already seems to be a worsening issue, so I plan to exchange it and hope the replacement works a lot better.
