    terrible

    • Written by from San Diego

As others have reported, this product fails after a few months of use. I get the "not charging" problem with my mbp. I had 2 of them and both went ba . The adapters themselves are working fine as I tested them with older laptops.

    has been rock solid

I've had one running in my office for 6 months without any issue at all. I've read the reviews of these stopping to charge all of a sudden, but I have never had that experience. I bought 2--one for my office and one for home. The one in my office stays plugged into a power cable that says there so it is never disconnected from the magsafe magnet; don't know if that matters.

My second one (at home) lasted 3-4 months. This one went in my backpack and was in and out. But I lost it. That's my fault; I know they are small and easy to los. I can't blame Apple for that one. I'll probably replace it because it's so convenient (I have several power cords around the house so I can plug in anywhere, and I don't want to start buying a bunch of magsafe 2 cords.

All in all, they did what they were intended to do reliably for me.

works fine but falls off too easily

I guess I don't have much choice but i've bought three of these now because they fall off of the charger while i'm carrying it and they disappear. I wish it had a stronger magnet..

    few complaints

On occasion this will get dislodged, but the magnet is pretty strong. $10 isn't a bargain, but it's great that they have this adaptor at all!

    Junk

    • Written by from Concord

This rip off of an adapter seems to "wear out" after a few months of use. I have to wiggle it for several minutes to get the oft-described dim charging light to go away and fully illuminate. This happens every time I dock to my extremely expensive Thunderbolt display. We pay a premium to use Apple products and as such deserve better.

I'd rate ZERO stars if it were possible.

Worked for 7 months then died

    • Written by from South Bend

The converter worked fine for about 7 months with a Magsafe 1 charger on a new laptop. Now it won't charge the battery. The Magsafe 1 charger still powers an older 15" MBP just fine, and a Magsafe 2 charger works on the new laptop. So it's not a problem with the laptop or the power. The converter itself is bad.

    Defective product

This small converter just does not work consistently. It wastes us time to figure out the charging problem and $ for it. Suggest never to buy this kind of defective product from Apple.

    this product is not good

    • Written by from Amsterdam

It was great when I got it, so I could charge my Macbook Pro Retina 15" late 2013 with my Thunderbolt display (which only has a magsafe 1 cable attached to it), no need for extra cables. For the first month or so it worked fine, then slowly, it started to show glitches. All of the sudden it would be losing connection or failing to charge and just keep it stable on (for example) 30% of battery. Detaching, reattaching, cleaning, firmly pressing, it had no effect. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't. And this never happens when I attach it to the normal magsafe 2 adapter that came with my Macbook Pro.

Another annoying addition is that when one has a Thunderbolt display attached to its Macbook Pro, and the Macbook Pro loses its electricity feed, the attached display goes on and off, thinking that the Macbook Pro is being detached and attached. So when the magsafe converter fails to work, the Thunderbolt flickers... ARGH! And that for a 3500+ euro setup!

Yes it really is that bad

    • Written by from LA JOLLA

So some people can get this to work. I have a Macbook Pro Retina and the original magsafe2 frayed on me and I had to replace. My computer is just a little over a year old so I was a little upset about having to buy another adapter, so I bought an Apple original MagSafe from a computer repair store and this adapter. The tech said I would be fine. It has been an off again on again and now definitely OFF for sure nightmare. Of course when I took it to the shop was one of the days it decided to work. I am going to have to schlep back there and try to get my money back. I wish I had just bought another Magsafe2.

    Does Not Work As Designed

    • Written by from Kirkland

This has caused nothing but frustration and lost productivity for work -- this product slowly had increasing issues until now I cannot use it with a Thunderbolt Display and my 2014 MacBook Pro. This is terrible and I cannot charge my notebook for a presentation.

    It works.

    • Written by from Rockwood

I have read a mixed bag of reviews here but I can say that on a 15 inch MacBook Pro Retina the adapter in perfect and is not subject to falling out or not working if moved in anyway. It has a solid hold and resists being pulled out as well as the MagSafe 2 connection. No doubt others are having some issues but I am happy that for my set up the adaptor works great.

    Stopped working ~3 months

    • Written by from Coshocton

The converter just stopped working one night. I attempted to clean it, clean the computer outlet, wiggle it around - nothing. Ended up having to buy a whole new charger. Waste of cash. Don't get this converter. You're better off biting the bullet and purchasing a new charger or even go 3rd party.

    Poor Quality Product

    • Written by from Redlands

This is a very disappointing Apple product. It will only allow charging when it's in a "perfect" orientation with the connector on my MBP, and it requires a lot of fiddling and twisting to find that perfect spot. Otherwise no connection and no charging. It's easier just to use the original charger that came with the computer, which means I need two different chargers in the house for different MBPs. Bad job, Apple!

    Doesn't charge consistently

    • Written by from Munhall

Sometimes it takes considerable fiddling to get my laptop to charge while plugged in. I use this product while at a desk, so I don't have "falling out" issues. I do, however, disconnect the laptop 2 or more times throughout the day and each time I have to worry about the battery recharging.

    Terrible product

    • Written by

After about 6 months, both MagSafe2 to MagSafe converters stopped charging my MacbookProRetina reliably. You have to tweak and wiggle and adjust it to get it to start charging. Forget about charging it on your lap. This only works on a flat desktop where once you get the angle just right, it will charge fine. Until you bump it slightly.

And just to be clear, I have tried this with a stack of different power adapters (which all work fine on my older Macbook), and with two different converters, so it isn't the adapter, but the converter design.

And the MBP charges fine 100% of the time with the MagSafe2 adapter that came with the Macbook. So I don't think it is dirt on the Macbook itself. It is either the lame $20 converter, or a very finicky connection on the Macbook that doesn't like the converter.

It worked fine for a couple of months, but now it won't charge the battery -- same problem as a lot of people where it will maintain power, but not charge. I also have connection problems, like many others, where moving it around will make it disconnect.

    Mine works fine.

    • Written by from los angeles

I just upgraded my MacBook Pro and noticed they changed the power connection. Since I had 2 MagSafe cords already I thought I'd roll the dice.
There are quite a few negative reviews but I gotta say mine works perfectly. Maybe they fixed the problem.

Works, but not ideal for laptops

    • Written by from Columbus

I haven't had any charging issues as others seem to have had, but darn it the thing falls out of the computer too easily. Because it sticks out from the computer an extra 1.0 cm, the torque just caused by the weight of the rest of the cable is often enough to pull it away from the computer... or at best, knock it loose so that it looks like you have tried to insert it diagonally (which is to say, it's still barely attached to your computer magnetically, but is not actually attached to the power inlet itself). So decide for yourself: if you use your laptop on your lap, just know that you're paying $70 less than you would for a whole new charger, but it comes at the inconvenience of having to re-plug it back in all the time. If you use your laptop as a desktop machine, or if you are purchasing this for anything else (like a monitor or a desktop machine), you'll be fine and you can consider this a 5-star review.

Works fine, gets dirty, stops charging, easy to fix

    • Written by from San Jose

So I received one of these with my Thunderbolt Display. It stopped charging, which was a major inconvenience. The problem is it gets dirty, but the dirt is rarely visible because the contacts are so small. Search YouTube for "How I fixed my Magsafe" for the solution. I just used the wooden skewer he shows, no cotton. It took two minutes to clean the adapter and two chargers.
