Didn't WANT to have to buy this but it does work..

    • Written by from Antioch

I really liked the old connection better cause it was stronger. After they changed it to a lesser quality plug, I bought this to make even more weight on my cable thus making it come out even easier LOL.

Beats buying another new $70+ power plug but I still feel ripped off for having to buy this in the first place.

    Works Perfectly

    • Written by from EXTON

The only regret I had after unboxing my new Macbook Air, was the realization that my "old" MagSafe power adapters would not work with it. I travel frequently, so rather than bundle up the MagSafe 2 cord and travel with it, I was planning to buy a new Magsafe 2 cord and keep it in my briefcase when I travel. Thank you apple for creating this handy little adapter to solve all my problems. Less than $10, and I received it from fedex less than 24 hours after I ordered it.

Works exactly the way it should

It allows you to use older Macbook MagSafe power adapter on newer MacBooks. Simple.

It's magnetic so if you trip on the cable it releases just like the MagSafe. Simple!

You can NOT possibly rate this little thing below a 5 STAR - it does exactly what it says it does - nothing more nor nothing less. SIMPLE!

    3 for 3

    • Written by from London

I have three of these. One for my personal Macbook Pro - and another two that I use at work (I have a lot of Macbook Pro's in my life). All three came with Thunderbolt displays and are used to power the MacBooks via the display's power cable.

More often than not, all three fail to deliver power to the macbook, and after some random wiggling of the thing, it will eventually spring back to life... but you never know for how long.

And it's not just me. Most people in my office have a Macbook Pro with a thunderbolt display. We all experience the same issue.

Now I have charging anxiety and I'm constantly keeping one eye on the Mag Safe connector and the charging icon in the menu bar. I'd use the MacBooks charger if we had available plug sockets, but we don't. This product is not fit for the purpose it was designed for. It's not even worth the 1 star I'm forced to give it for this review.

Works as advertised, much cheeper than a new adapter

    • Written by from Melrose

I'm shocked by all of the negative reviews. I have 1 at my office desk and several throughout my house. I have never had an issue - it always charges and stays connected. Kudos to Apple for offering this; they could have easily changed the converters and forced everyone to retire the old ones. This saved me a lot of $$.

Poor poor product not befitting of Apple's engineering reputation

    • Written by from Hoboken

I've just ordered another one of these converters, not because they are good products but because the last one stopped working after about a year of use and I have no alternative.

Given the multitude of extremely challenging engineering problems Apple routinely excel at solving, it seems bizarre to me that they could mess up what boils down to a solid lump of metal with no moving parts and a few electrical connections. From an engineering perspective this converter is less complicated than a power strip and I have plenty of those which have lasted decades.

Given the reviews, this is clearly not something Apple really care about or want to put time into. They're waiting for everyone to upgrade their machines...

Stops working after a few months. Connect the converter to my Thunderbolt display, connect that to my laptop, doesn't charge the battery anymore.

The converter worked fine for some months.
Now it won't charge the battery.
    The converter itself is bad.

Junk - two failed after 2-3 months use

    • Written by from Seattle

Started blaming the power adaptor for a while but like others, checked with an older MBP and they worked fine.

First the light goes out but the laptop thinks it's charging. However charge either doesn't go up or goes up really slowly. Complete waste of money. Not that there's anything to charge since my MBP Pro is hosed post Yosemite update...

    Refund please?

    Not so great

    • Written by from Los Angeles

Like others have stated, this thing stop working properly after a while. Wiggling it in to have it charge gets pretty frustrating when you are in a hurry and just trying to have the laptop charge. I am writing this now because I am back at the store buying another one. What a pain.

As others have reported, this product fails after a few months of use. I get the "not charging" problem with my mbp. I had 2 of them and both went ba . The adapters themselves are working fine as I tested them with older laptops.

    has been rock solid

    • Written by from San Diego

I've had one running in my office for 6 months without any issue at all. I've read the reviews of these stopping to charge all of a sudden, but I have never had that experience. I bought 2--one for my office and one for home. The one in my office stays plugged into a power cable that says there so it is never disconnected from the magsafe magnet; don't know if that matters.

My second one (at home) lasted 3-4 months. This one went in my backpack and was in and out. But I lost it. That's my fault; I know they are small and easy to los. I can't blame Apple for that one. I'll probably replace it because it's so convenient (I have several power cords around the house so I can plug in anywhere, and I don't want to start buying a bunch of magsafe 2 cords.

All in all, they did what they were intended to do reliably for me.

I guess I don't have much choice but i've bought three of these now because they fall off of the charger while i'm carrying it and they disappear. I wish it had a stronger magnet..

On occasion this will get dislodged, but the magnet is pretty strong. $10 isn't a bargain, but it's great that they have this adaptor at all!

This rip off of an adapter seems to "wear out" after a few months of use. I have to wiggle it for several minutes to get the oft-described dim charging light to go away and fully illuminate. This happens every time I dock to my extremely expensive Thunderbolt display. We pay a premium to use Apple products and as such deserve better.

I'd rate ZERO stars if it were possible.

Worked for 7 months then died

    • Written by from South Bend

The converter worked fine for about 7 months with a Magsafe 1 charger on a new laptop. Now it won't charge the battery. The Magsafe 1 charger still powers an older 15" MBP just fine, and a Magsafe 2 charger works on the new laptop. So it's not a problem with the laptop or the power. The converter itself is bad.

This small converter just does not work consistently. It wastes us time to figure out the charging problem and $ for it. Suggest never to buy this kind of defective product from Apple.

    this product is not good

    • Written by from Amsterdam

It was great when I got it, so I could charge my Macbook Pro Retina 15" late 2013 with my Thunderbolt display (which only has a magsafe 1 cable attached to it), no need for extra cables. For the first month or so it worked fine, then slowly, it started to show glitches. All of the sudden it would be losing connection or failing to charge and just keep it stable on (for example) 30% of battery. Detaching, reattaching, cleaning, firmly pressing, it had no effect. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't. And this never happens when I attach it to the normal magsafe 2 adapter that came with my Macbook Pro.

Another annoying addition is that when one has a Thunderbolt display attached to its Macbook Pro, and the Macbook Pro loses its electricity feed, the attached display goes on and off, thinking that the Macbook Pro is being detached and attached. So when the magsafe converter fails to work, the Thunderbolt flickers... ARGH! And that for a 3500+ euro setup!

Yes it really is that bad

    • Written by from LA JOLLA

So some people can get this to work. I have a Macbook Pro Retina and the original magsafe2 frayed on me and I had to replace. My computer is just a little over a year old so I was a little upset about having to buy another adapter, so I bought an Apple original MagSafe from a computer repair store and this adapter. The tech said I would be fine. It has been an off again on again and now definitely OFF for sure nightmare. Of course when I took it to the shop was one of the days it decided to work. I am going to have to schlep back there and try to get my money back. I wish I had just bought another Magsafe2.
