    Works but easily detached

The converter works as advertised. It lets me use an existing power supply with my new MacBook Pro Retina.

The converter's magnet attaches to the power supply's old MagSafe connector very effectively. The magnetic connection between the converter and the MacBook isn't as strong. The problem is that the old MagSafe adapter and the converter is now long enough that leverage makes it very easy to disconnect from the MacBook. This is very annoying, especially if you hold the MacBook in your lap while using it.

Great way to extend the life of existing adapters

Does what it claims to. Small and unobtrusive, works great with the Thunderbolt display. I'd rather be able to swap cords, but this is better than replacing the monitor!

As for the other reviewer complaining about having to replace his existing adaptors - that doesn't make sense. His existing adaptors work with his older machines, and with this they now work with his new machine. The only potential problem is if he is planning on a new location with only the new power adaptor... Inconvenient, sure - but hardly forced to buy a bunch of new stuff to replace his existing.

1 in every 5 times I connect, the power light doesn't come on. I have to jiggle it around and continue to reconnect it until I get a light.

Works good, but Why must Apple feel the need to change to a differend power adaptor? Such a waste! Buy several, they are small and in time will get lost.

    MagSafe to MagSafe 2?

    • Written by from Pittsburgh

This converter is a must. Why Apple changed a perfectly working device to the MagSafe 2 is beyond me... the MagSafe 2 is terrible and pulls out twice as easy. And when you use this converter - it is even worse as far as accidental pull-out.

Better than the Magsafe 2 adaptor alone

If you read my review of the 85W Magsafe 2 adapter "Magnet not Strong Enough" and many others you will find that the native Magsafe 2 adaptor supplied with the MBP Retina Display is too weak to work with, it falls out constantly. This is the solution, use this with your older chargers or EVEN BUY A NEW 85W MAGSAFE 1 or 1.5 and USE THIS ADAPTOR instead of the magsafe 2 adaptor by itself. Unless your household is accident prone with children or wild pets, you will probably be happer this way, with a power adapter that doesn't fall out ever time you pickup your laptop or move. It is surprisingly strong where you won't loose it, and will still break away in moderate conditions, not all conditions (like if your laptop is at the edge of a slippery table and it is pulled at the right angle.) This is a the best solutions for adults that need to get work done and not worry about their adaptor falling out.

These converters are great. I don't have to trash my old adapters that I keep in my office, home, briefcase, etc. Best of all, I don't have to spend the money to buy new ones.

this is is a pretty elegant solution that I prefer to the new MagSafe 2 power adapter which ihas a surprisingly much larger connector than the original MagSafe power adapter. It's very sturdy.

$10 is a pricey upgrade, but much better than $80.

Cost effective way to use old power supplies on new laptops

Sometimes when a hardware change breaks compatibility, you have to spend a lot of money on new gear or expensive adapters. At $10, this allows you to use older power supplies with newer laptops without the expense of spending $80 on a new power supply. And, it works well. I was afraid it would separate or come apart or be a fragile connection. But, it holds tightly to the old power supply plug and works seamlessly.

I use this with a 60W adapter and it works great. I keep adapter on my home charger, so I don't loose the little thing while I travel. It connects magnetically to both the power cord and computer, so it doesn't fall off. Only downside is when I unplug the power supply the adapter sometimes sticks to the laptop, so I have to pull it off.

I have a MacBook Pro with a Retina display, and a 27" Apple Cinema display with a power cable. Unfortunately this adapter has been working very poorly, and most of the time it does not properly supply power to the macbook. Light does not come on, the laptop shows it's powered on battery, and I have to literally wet both sides of the adapter to make it work.

So easily detached, I had to buy another

I purchased a MacBook Pro w/ Retina Display along with a Thunderbolt Display, The Thunderbolt Display requires this converter and one was included (good), Recently, I detached my MacBook Pro, and on return, found the converter missing. After a thorough check of my office floor, I can only assume it stayed on the MacBook and then got bumped off. $10 later (bad), I have another but I feel like I had to pay for a poor design. Besides, the T-bolt Display should have had the RIGHT CONNECTOR in the first place! It works, but 2 stars is the best I can give it.

    Doesn't work well - Retina?

I don't have an issue of losing it because this one stays stationary on my desk. But it doesn't seem to always work. Sometimes it does, sometimes it doesn't. Many people have already pointed this out. I should've listened. Btw, I have a 15" Retina. Laptop is less than 5 months old and adapter is less than 3 months old.
