    Nice expensive case

It's made for the iPad by the guys who made the iPad. So the quality goes in par with the device. It perfectly fits the new iPad 4 and does not make the iPad look bulky.
Though its expensive, it's worth the buy to compliment the iPad.

First off, I read a lot of the complaints and most were how the edges are "sharp" and "hurt you". Well, unless you have very delicate hands, they won't hurt you. Sure the edges do stick out a bit and could poke you a little bit, but it did not seem to bother me. What I like about this case is that it covers the entire iPad. The iPad does sink down a little bit in it and those "sharp" edges seem to stick out to help protect from drops and bumps. I haven't dropped my iPad yet (hope that I never do), but this case seems like it offers a good amount of protection. The case looks really nice, seems well made, seems to protect the iPad well and while adding a bit of size to it, still seems to have a "streamlined" feel to it. Now there are some complaints that I have. The first being that when standing up straight in landscape mode, the iPad will wobble and fall over pretty easily, I almost have to stand it up against something. Kinda defeats that whole purpose. The second complaint is that when opening the cover, you have to dig your nail in to get a a grip so you can pull it open. Now I am worried about dropping my iPad, contemplating getting Applecare+, but spending $150 to protect my iPad is a lot of money after I already spent $600. Anyone out there know how well this case does with drops? Overall I like this case, contrary to other reviews, I'd say my 4th gen iPad fits in rather well (it was very tight to get in and even harder to get out), it looks good and seems to add a good deal of protection. Not perfect, but really good.

Was this useful? Good case, a lot of money though.

    Surprised I actually liked it!

I bought this at my local Target, well aware of the fact that a good majority of Apple customers hated this product. I had purchased another case third-party and was pleased with it, but I really wanted to see what all the fuss was about with the Smart Case. I went in ready to hate it, but I found myself falling in love with it! It fits my 3rd gen iPad PERFECTLY, and the magnets feel strong. It adds the right amount of protection but keeps the profile slim, which is what I wanted. Can't speak for others, but this case works brilliantly for me. Also, the light grey color is really attractive and hides fingerprints a lot better then my Black minji case.

    IPad Case

I bought two cases, one for my wife and one for me with the Ipad 4. I am very disappointed in the functioning of this cover, it is not staying on the Ipad as experessed in the sales description of the item. I spent 150.00$ for two of them in leather and I am extremely disappointed for this purchase, I will have to find some other mechanism to satisfied my need. I am surprise that apple rush this product out without proper testing prior to put it out on the market. I understand about the race in the field however, the customer is the one that should be satisfied witht he product and it will sell better if customer is satisfied, nevermind the share holder that are looking to increase their proffit margin, they are greedy like the rest of these companies. Remember for it to have a good reputation, consistancy in the quality of the product sold should be the number one concern for continious proffitability, and good return for the share holders. Thanks.

This case will make you mad

I'll start with the good. It does protect your ipad and has a Smart Cover.
The bad: It does not really fit. My ipad is constantly sliding around, popping out of the shell, and shifting to where can't use the lock button or headphone jack.
The cover when folded into a stand is not very stable. I have had it fall over too many times to count. It just does not create a stable foundation to sit on.
The last problem I have with this case is that it is not comfortable to hold. Why Apple? You bride yourselves on design and function and you stamped your name on this. Shame on you.

iPad 4: Imperfect Fit, outstanding Material Quality & Viewing Angles.

    • Written by from WASHINGTON

Fits iPad 2 perfectly, iPad 4 a hair roomy. I tried a second case of the same make and it had more acceptable tolerance.

The material quality is outstanding and the grip lets you achieve a CLEVER undocumented intermediate viewing angle with the front flap segments rolled in at less overlap (easier to demo this than explain).

    • Stand-Up Angle (for FaceTime) only works with soft inner face of flap rolled to the outside; otherwise it will fall over.
    • Lowest Angle: Do the opposite (since it won't fall over) and protect soft face from needlessly catching debris.
    • Intermediate Angle: Same. Touch Typing ergonomics at this angle are astonishingly clever; make bluetooth keyboard cases redundant, click stands look silly.

The case's virtues & versatility are revealed over the course of usage. I like mine more everyday.

I bought this case with the intent of having a case that would protect the iPad and still provide all the functions of the smart cover; it the end it doesn't it works horribly as a stand. My iPad has fallen over backward more times than I care to count in the last 3 days.. I am waiting for it to break the iPad since it's so bad.

I love my Smart Cover for my iPad. I was very excited to see the Smart Case. I was very disappointed when I got it. It is flimsy and reminds me a lot of an egg carton. The edges are sharp and hurt my hands after a bit of use. Less than a week later and I have a new case - the iskin solo that allows me to use my Smart Cover, which is awesome!!

I'm not sure wha is with some of these overly harsh reviews. These covers are a matter of preference. Belkin and some other 3rd party vendors make a more "professional" case with slots for business cards, leather binding, etc. I don't use the ipad for business, so to me anything overly professional makes me feel like I'm at work. The light grey cover looks fantastic encasing the white ipad. The look is clean, the use is functional and the design and overal bulk is minimal. Overall a very nice compliment to your new device.

    Better case, but not best.

I know there is a lot of personal opinion that goes into these reviews, so here goes one person's opinion. First off, good case. Does the job ... but ... I came from 1st gen and the 1st gen case with its solid top flap works better then the quad-divided, fold-into-a-triangle-shape flap, just sayin'. Second, I read a number of reviews that said the case had "shape" edges. Sharp? Really. I ended up going to a Mac store to see and feel these sharp edged cases. In my opinion, not sharp ... not at all.
I liked the ability to put a message on the case. I like that all the buttons work very well. I like that all the ports and lenses line up well. All in all, another well built, well thought out Apple product. I've come to expect nothing less. But I would have liked a solid front cover like the 1st gen iPad case had ... just sayin'.

Was this useful? Better case, but not best.

Well I really love my case. I got it almost a month ago, same day with my I pad and I am always taking it off cause I just hate the way it feels on my palms. holding it. I use it for a lot of projects for school and it's just so uncomfortable trying to type on it while holding it. it literally digs in your palms. I think it is very smart but I personally think that the extra material of the case is unnecessary. It also needs to be a bit smoother on the sides.

Not sturdy falls over all the time when touched

Just bought this case for 4th gen retina ipad. It's not sturdy will not hold up iPad very good. I actully have the blue one but all the same. You have to hold the iPad with at least one hand when you touch it or it will fall over. The new retina iPad seems to fit loose in it. I bought it because of it being thin, but not worth it. Do like the cover turning off the ipad. Would love to return it but I will be out of town more than 30 days and no way of getting to an apple store. Thanks apple for the waste of money I spent on this.

Best iPad case - bar none

I got this case for our iPad4, after a long search; I am glad we did.

The case fits the iPad perfectly; adds negligible bulk and weight; feels great and secure in your hands. At $US49, it is a great bargain over the Smart Cover ($US39). I even believe it offers excellent values compared to other non-Apple imitators out there.

Some reviewers complained their iPads fell out of their case; I could not see how that happens since this case secures my iPad very well (no wiggle room). I speculate that those reviewers do not fit their iPad into their case properly.

If you have any doubts, you need to ask yourself why you chose your iPad in the first place, then the answers should apply to why you will like this Smart Case: fit, function, and fun (actually, those are mine). This case is a perfect companion to my iPad.

Worst case, you can always return it. However, I am sure you'll like it; I know I do.

Provides protection for screen and has light protection for the back of the iPad.
Stand up function works ok, but has a tendency to fall if bumped.
    Maintains compact size of iPad.
Overall best all around case on the market.

As far as protection goes, no complaints. As far as industrial design, it falls below the quality standards Apple is known for. It gets uncomfortable to hold the iPad in these smart cases and if your nails are trimmed down it is difficult to open the case. The edges around the case feel sharp and unpolished. I've owned two of these cases, different colors and am still looking for that "perfect" case that feels good in your hands.
