Good case, a lot of money though.

First off, I read a lot of the complaints and most were how the edges are "sharp" and "hurt you". Well, unless you have very delicate hands, they won't hurt you. Sure the edges do stick out a bit and could poke you a little bit, but it did not seem to bother me. What I like about this case is that it covers the entire iPad. The iPad does sink down a little bit in it and those "sharp" edges seem to stick out to help protect from drops and bumps. I haven't dropped my iPad yet (hope that I never do), but this case seems like it offers a good amount of protection. The case looks really nice, seems well made, seems to protect the iPad well and while adding a bit of size to it, still seems to have a "streamlined" feel to it. Now there are some complaints that I have. The first being that when standing up straight in landscape mode, the iPad will wobble and fall over pretty easily, I almost have to stand it up against something. Kinda defeats that whole purpose. The second complaint is that when opening the cover, you have to dig your nail in to get a a grip so you can pull it open. Now I am worried about dropping my iPad, contemplating getting Applecare+, but spending $150 to protect my iPad is a lot of money after I already spent $600. Anyone out there know how well this case does with drops? Overall I like this case, contrary to other reviews, I'd say my 4th gen iPad fits in rather well (it was very tight to get in and even harder to get out), it looks good and seems to add a good deal of protection. Not perfect, but really good.

    Surprised I actually liked it!

I bought this at my local Target, well aware of the fact that a good majority of Apple customers hated this product. I had purchased another case third-party and was pleased with it, but I really wanted to see what all the fuss was about with the Smart Case. I went in ready to hate it, but I found myself falling in love with it! It fits my 3rd gen iPad PERFECTLY, and the magnets feel strong. It adds the right amount of protection but keeps the profile slim, which is what I wanted. Can't speak for others, but this case works brilliantly for me. Also, the light grey color is really attractive and hides fingerprints a lot better then my Black minji case.

    Better case, but not best.

I know there is a lot of personal opinion that goes into these reviews, so here goes one person's opinion. First off, good case. Does the job ... but ... I came from 1st gen and the 1st gen case with its solid top flap works better then the quad-divided, fold-into-a-triangle-shape flap, just sayin'. Second, I read a number of reviews that said the case had "shape" edges. Sharp? Really. I ended up going to a Mac store to see and feel these sharp edged cases. In my opinion, not sharp ... not at all.
I liked the ability to put a message on the case. I like that all the buttons work very well. I like that all the ports and lenses line up well. All in all, another well built, well thought out Apple product. I've come to expect nothing less. But I would have liked a solid front cover like the 1st gen iPad case had ... just sayin'.

Provides protection for screen and has light protection for the back of the iPad.
Stand up function works ok, but has a tendency to fall if bumped.
    Maintains compact size of iPad.
Overall best all around case on the market.

Good, could be better but fairly overpriced.

As far as protection goes, no complaints. As far as industrial design, it falls below the quality standards Apple is known for. It gets uncomfortable to hold the iPad in these smart cases and if your nails are trimmed down it is difficult to open the case. The edges around the case feel sharp and unpolished. I've owned two of these cases, different colors and am still looking for that "perfect" case that feels good in your hands.

    The complete truth

    Truth is...
Yes it does get dirty easily, but its super easy to clean.
When brand new the case is super tight, but loosens over time. (not too loose)
The flap is kinda awkward when not being used as a stand.
When being used as a stand, it's not very sturdy. (Can easily knock over)
Super efficient because all you have to do is close the entire flap and bam it's off!
Great protector, I take it every where!
I've had it for almost a year not a single scratch (the new iPad, with case)
Super easy to open! (if you have trouble, trust me its not the case)
All the colors choices are a great way to personalize it.
All the inputs are centered. (If not I would take it back and ask for one that is. That is just luck, and the manufacturers fault.)

With everything said its not a waste of money at all, it's not perfect it needs improvement with the stupid flap. In the end it gets the job done, and it's an awesome protector!

I really like the Smart Case....sleek...feels great to hold...I read the comments about it not fitting well, mine fits very snug. The only downfall I can find it that the stand only supports it in the landscape position. When ready a book I often like the portrait position...

    Good case however.....

This is a great case for my new gen iPad. It fits super snug to the point where you really have to put some effort into getting the iPad into it initially! The auto wake/sleep function works superb. It is sleek and comfortable. The bad however is it is sometimes difficult to open due to the lack of some sort of tab to grab the lip of the poly edges and those without long fingernails sometimes struggle to get under the flap (which is effective at keeping dust out) and lastly the soft backing of the cover that rests on your screen leaves a residue impression (lines) on the screen which you can use a soft cloth to clean but it does get somewhat annoying. Overall this is a good investment in protecting your technology.

    iPad smart case

The case is brilliant, I love the fact that it covers the entire iPad and you still have the smart case function (lock, unlock). My only problem with it is that it's not as snug a fit as I would have hoped. It fits a little more like a knock off from eBay.
