Just got this case and so far I have no issues. It's feels great and it's feels like my ipad is safe. Only issue is wish it was darker or even black. Been thinking of getting this for a while and glad I did. It's an upgrade from the Smart Cover. :)

Yall need to make an Ipad mini smart case

Not as sturdy as the Smart Cover but still works, can't type or anything, good for viewing videos/FaceTime. When enabled the cover locks and unlocks your screen. However when the screen is locked via the cover all notifications are silenced until the cover is removed to unlock.
We need an ipad mini version of the smart case, ya gotta protect both sides. No one wants a scratched ipad

    Overall Best Simple Protection

I initially bought one of these to replace a silicone back that had no cover and then took it back to the store within hours because my first reaction was that the back of the Smart Case was too thin in comparison to my $10 silicone protector. Once I realized that silicone, although much thicker than polyurethane, was slick enough to turn the iPad into an over-sized air hockey puck on a smooth surface I reconsidered. This change in perception was also in part because all of the after-market folios I looked at only gripped the iPad at the corners or you had to slide the iPad into a fabric or leather enclosure that offered no seal whatsoever. Back covers meant to pair with a Smart Cover were similarly poor. My only complaints about the Smart Case design are the very thin edge of the enclosure that is somewhat uncomfortable to hold when reading a book and the lack of a magnetic device to secure the open cover flat to the back. Bottom line for me is when at home I may prefer the cheap silicone back for convenience and comfort, but when I want a simple sealed case/stand to toss in a bag or briefcase, the Smart Case fits the bill nicely.

The smart case fits really well. The texture of the case feels good in my hand and makes me confident that my iPad investment is safe. My only complaint is that the upright viewing angle is a bit too high. Bonus points for the custom engraving!

I think this is a great case for the iPad. I have the newest generation iPad & bought a case initially for it, not from Apple. That case never closed well, my iPad was slipping out. I read reviews for this case and decided to try it. I bought it and love it! No complaints with it holding the iPad in or it falling out. It's not padded which I think is okay but I like that it keeps the iPad size still thin. I do love how the cover snaps on and you hear that click. The color is great, although I wish the colors were brighter. Overall, satisfied with this case.

I was looking for a case which doesn't feel my ipad chunky or thick.
This case fits exactly right to the ipad yet sturdy enough to protect the body.
This case is worth the price, and also I like the dark grey color that doesn't seem to get dirty.
But It would've been better if there are more angles available more than two.

I have an Ottherbox Defender for our iPad 1st gen. It is perfect since my kids use it and aren't very careful, but it is very heavy and bulky. I wanted to get something slimmer for my iPad2 so I could carry it easier in my bag. This is definitely slimmer, butI have to say the cover does have some space in the back between the iPad and the cover. I had mine monogrammed. I would love to be able to supersize the font on the engraving. Overall I am very pleased and hope this will protect it while it is in my bag.

i liked the smart cover but needed the back protection. i got this case for my iPad but the back of the case wasn't snug, there was ripples in the back and it just felt like the case didn't fit like it should

I was surprised at the texture of the case, very soft and smooth to the touch. The overall compact style of the case makes my iPad 4 all the more mobile. No problems getting the case on. Magnets work well for shut off and secure closure. Easy to open. The only con, would like the cover to actually secure to the case when flipped back.

I was somewhat hesitant to buy this considering some of the terrible reviews. However, I've found this to be an excellent case-- beautiful, protects the iPad well without adding bulk. Also fits the iPad like a glove. A little bit pricey, but would buy again without hesitation.

I was looking for a light case to protect my iPad from scratches. (I don't expect to take an iPad anywhere where it might be submersed and if I drop it that's my fault.) I liked the look of the Smart Case and was very pleased by how it appeared out of the box. Good snug fit and it works as described. The case feels good in my hands and it doesn't add a noticeable amount of bulk or weight to the iPad.

As long as it is clear what you are and aren't getting, I believe everyone will be fine.

    Positives:
The ipad fits snuggly in the case period so it is very unclear what that fuss is about. The fabric used on the insides of the front cover which sits against the glass is of good quality. Magnets work well for the sleep and wake feature (N.B. wakes instantly but sleeps about 1.5 seconds after closed). Apple logo and the custom words that can be added to the case (if ordered from apple.com) are really very elegant. Ridges for folding and the hinges are sturdy.

    Negatives:
Edges are sharp and may be uncomfortable to hold especially if it becomes necessary to grip tightly in landscape view (e.g. playing games on the iPad). Interestingly, these same sharp ridges will provide some bump protection for the edges of the iPad during light to moderate use. The front cover does NOT magnetically adhere to the back of the case when folded flat against the back for reading. This is especially annoying in landscape view mode as you have to consciously hold it there with your fingers while attempting to scroll with your thumb.

    General:
The rounding of the edges and a magnetic solution for sticking the front cover to the back of the smartcase while still being able to peel away the first flap to take pictures and videos are definite upgrades this product needs. Truthfully, Apple does not the spend time to improve their accessories as fast as they do their main products so Lord knows when these oversights will be addressed (and you know when they do the cost will go up!)

    Conclusion:
I knew of these nuances when I tested the product and purchased it anyway as I believe the smartcase couples well with the iPad. Aftermarket versions tend to be bulky or of inferior build quality. Bottomline guys, you get pay for... Peace!

    Not perfect, but not bad

If you follow the instructions for inserting the iPad it fits easily and snugly.
As opposed to what others have reported, the magnetic closure works just fine in the open or closed positions.

One design flaw is that it is a little tricky to open since the edges are cut too short. The Marware version was a nicer fit, but only a minor issue as far as I'm concerned. Since the edges are not as round as I'd like, I carry it by the spine edge which is smooth.

I bought the grey cover and it looks terrific.

I just picked up this case with an iPad4. With my previous iPad I had a Zagg cover on the back and a Smart Cover to protect the screen. This is a far superior solution.

Pros: Other reviewers have complained about fit, but my iPad fits snugly in the case. In fact it took a bit of work to get the iPad in. It is lined throughout with the same material that was inside the Smart Cover so I'm expecting not to see scratches when removed. The case is thin so there's not a bulk issue at all. It's also soft so I find it easier to hold for an extended period. The cover was $50 which seems high unless you price Zagg ($35) and a Smart Cover individually.

Cons: Like the case I had for my iPad first generation, the seam where the back cover and the neoprene edge (that holds the iPad in place) come together, there is a sharp edge which is uncomfortable to the touch. I wish Apple had designed this with a rounded edge-maybe in the next generation..

If you are looking for a low bulk solution to protect your iPad, I would recommend this.

Well, I had a bit of hard time to get my iPad fit into the case. Once it was in, it shaped the iPad perfectly while protecting both sides, the screen and the back. I strongly recommend it especially if you have kids

Just received this case today. Got it in Grey. Would like to have it in Black but does not look like it is being offered in Black. It fits nice and not very bulky. The only thing is it is hard for me to open the cover, maybe it is because I have not used it yet. First time having it engraved and didn't realize it to be really small.

Good Case, Not so good stand.

I love it as a case but the "stand" does not work so well. I dont believe in this case the stand is make it or break it though. I like how it covers the whole Ipad, so not to leave the back of it exposed to being scratched.

    Serves its purpose

I have had 3 different cases and one Smart Cover for my iPad 2. This is my favorite so far. While it doesn't have the stand capabilities as many of the 3rd party cases available, it is sleek, slim, and protects my iPad. I dislike the bulkiness of the cases out there and the Smart Cover, while it was neat, just didn't assure me that my iPad was protected.

The Smart Case as a stand still has some opportunities for improvement, but I have found that it works just fine on a flat, smooth surface when the cover is folded in the tightest triangle possible. When folding the cover, because of the magnetic capabilities of the Case, sometimes if one is not paying close attention, the cover is capable of folding into a loose triangle which does not allow the proper angle and may cause the iPad to fall over.

    Nice case, terrible stand

I surprised my sister with an iPad for her birthday and purchased this case to go along with it. Yesterday I had my first opportunity to test it out surfing the web and playing a game. The case is nice. The soft material on the inside of the cover functions well to protect the glass from scratches. The auto on/off works flawlessly too. I didn't have any problems with scratching while holding it. The one issue I did have was with the cover folding into a stand. It seemed to be a little too heavy and it fell repeatedly. One other benefit was the free engraving on the case. Personalized the case and not the iPad so not to impact the iPad resell value.

    Need this for iPad Mini!

I just got my iPad Mini and there is no was to protect it like it should be. This cover protects an iPad like it should. Why would you want a cover that only protects the screen and not the back? Does Apple think that people don't care about the entire thing and not just the screen?

Make one for iPad Mini soon!
