    Horrible!

    • Written by from gallup

For $50 I thought this "smart" case would be a good idea. The case doesn't do anything smart. There is a small magnet that turns the screen off when you close it. That's all this does, it's very flimsy and all the folds permanently crease. It get dirty from anything and the "fabric" aspect of it makes it hard to clean. I take ridiculously good care of my things and this case is ripping on the inside corner where it's creased (it shouldn't even be able to crease there) I would say stay away from this item and spend you $50 on something that will function well and protect your iPad. I have only had it for 2-3 months and if I could rate zero stars I would .

    The idea is solid...

I got this case in January with my iPad and I must admit I was pleased at first, but as I used it the problems became more and more apparent.
First off I noticed that the cover did not hug the screen very well, it would shift in my backpack, turn the screen on and the iPad would be dead before morning classes.
Secondly, the cut outs are all slightly off. I had to use a knife from my garage to widen the charger slot so that it would fit apple's standard lightning cable. Also the hole for the slide at the side is off, and you have to really dig a nail in to get the switch to the "off" position.
Third thing, the way the cover folds should be improved. The keyboard mode is a bit shallow for my liking, however i did manage to take notes on it everyday, but the "movie mode" is terrible. On the Smart Cover it held the iPad at a slight angle to allow stability, but with the this case, it's pretty much straight up, and falls over constantly.
Finally, the build quality is terrible already the hinge is starting to tear at the edges, as well as all the folds on the cover, and the main body of the case is starting to split at the edges.

In short, tis is a solid idea for a case, but it needs some serious refinements before it should wear the apple logo.

    It hurts my hands

    • Written by from Cedar Rapids

I should have watched the cnet review. It shows how flimsy it is when you try to get it to prop up your ipad. The review did say that it is suppose to be used more as a portfolio. That doesn't work for me because the edges have a ledge that really cuts into your hand after awhile. I ordered something different today so that means this purchase was a waste of my money.

    pain in the hands

    • Written by from Griffin

This product has two significant issues. The number one issue are the sharp edges (seams) that join the back and the top edge. This sharp edge cuts into the hand as you hold the iPad. Apple spent a lot of time refining the feel of the iPad in your hand. Why they didn't do the same with this product is a mystery. Second issue is the screen cover flap. Once in place it becomes a struggle to lift the edge to Peel it back to use the iPad. A simple grab tab would have solved the problem. I considered taking a piece of sandpaper to the edge to smooth it out, but realized this would make it impossible to return if my experiment resulted in destroying the case. The third issue is the $49 price for what essentially is a 50 cent piece of refrigerator magnet molded to fit the curves of the device.

    Terrible!

    • Written by from Los Angeles

This thing is absolutely terrible. It is uncomfortable to hold. It makes your ipad look like it's wearing an oversized clothing. The flap is not easy to open if you don't have nails and when you open and flip it to the back it doesn't get attached to the back cover so it hangs off your fingers which I find very uncomfortable. And on top of all that it is not cheap. A definite return!

    HATED IT!

    • Written by from westlake

It was cheap, left these weird smudge lines on the screen where the case was creased to fold. The top flap was so difficult to grab when lifting the flap take off most of the time (imagine trying to pick a single piece of paper off a desk top) and the other time it slid off and would not stay in place. Returned it the next day. An embarrassment to all Apple products.

    Not worth it

    • Written by from Sparwood

I got this for Christmas, along with the new iPad. While it does a decent job protecting the back of my iPad, the front flap is horrendous. It stopped putting my iPad to sleep and waking it up after three weeks, and the magnets are so weak that the flap doesn't stay closed. Often, I'll go into my backpack and find that it slid to the side, exposing the screen. The 'stand' option is flimsy at best. My only good thing about it is that it puts the iPad at the right angle to function as a keyboard prop up. The edges are sharp as well, making it difficult to hold onto for any length of time. The flap also leaves lines across the screen from where it folds. It's not worth the $60

New Ipad Smart Case Is NOT Smart

    • Written by

The black polyurethane case we bought with our first ipad (the day they were released) has held up EXCELLENT and was an EXCELLENT design. the "keyboard view" was perfect - the front cover just slipped into a slit in the back. This new one with the multifold front cover WILL NOT HOLD IN KEYBOARD VIEW. Please make the old version available for the new ipads and allow trade in because the bad design is your fault.

Falls over in landscape FaceTime position

    • Written by from Highland

When I use this case in landscape view, it will fall down! I'm afraid of it breaking my iPad! I always have to hold it, and it gets annoying! I asked apple about this problem and they say it just needs to be broken in. I've had it for about 3 months! When will it be broken in? I do not like this case at all!

    NO PROTECTION - can't give 0 starts

    • Written by from Allentown

This cover provides no protection to your iPad other than maybe a little screen scratch protection. It is flimsy & the unit will need to be put into another sleeve or cover for structural protection...do not use this alone!

    Not much protection

    • Written by from Newport Beach

The cover is light and very nice looking, puts the iPad to sleep by just closing the cover. Does NOT protect if dropped or bumped. So if you don't have a problem with dropping or bumping it is perfect otherwise get something else. Got an iPad for my grandson online from Apple and bought this cover thinking it would protect it from dropping. When I saw it only covered the screen with a thin cover I knew I was in trouble. Only one offered by Apple. He cracked his screen by the 2nd week. He was walking with his iPad, the magnetic cover came off and it dropped :( He was so sad. Now getting a new screen replaced.

    Disappointed

    • Written by from Saint Petersburg

It's flimsy and not very well made. Does not stand well and looks like its starting to wear out after less than a week old. Don't bother with the free engraving because you need a high power magnifying glass to see it. The Chinese blew it on this one, go figure

    Sharp edges hurt my hands

While I am reading my favorite book on my iPad in bed, the sharp edges hurt my hands. I hope that apple will address this problem as I am used to great engineering from apple. Thanks.

    Minor flaw = big pain

    • Written by from san diego

The case fits and looks great. Don't buy it unless you have long and strong finger nails. It is a pain to open. I've had mine for a month or so and am thinking of crazy glueing something to the front flap to open it.

Uncomfortable to hold because of unfinished edges

    • Written by from London

Unfinished edges around the lip of the case make this really uncomfortable to hold if used for more than 5 mins. It also doesnt hold my ipad 4th gen securely. Very disappointing quality in total contrast to my fantastic ipad. Avoid.

    Very disappointed

    • Written by from Concord

I wrongfully assumed that I could get a great cover for my I Pad through Apple. The design is truly lacking. I is very difficult to use the stand. It doesn't stay. The I Pad falls down. I have to use other items to keep the screen propped up. I'm so disappointed.
