Good protection, but uncomfortable to hold.

    • Written by from St. Albert

The case fits well and provides good protection, but the edges are actually quite sharp and make the case uncomfortable to hold.

    Really Disappointed for the price

    • Written by from Greenfield

I bought this from Apple because I wanted something fitted by the people who made the device.

What I received was a big disappointment. The case edge rolls off the device where the cover folds back. It's a constant irritation to have to pop it back over the lip.

The other big issue is that the case was designed to fit previous model iPads, so it has the bigger hole for the 30-pin connector. Unfortunately, that hole is not aligned to the lightning connector properly, so when I plug the device in to charge it, the case slightly obstructs the connector, often causing the device not to charge.

For the price and being directly from Apple, I expected flawless. I didn't get that kind of product. Not by a long shot. Do not recommend.

    Good cover, horrible stand

    • Written by from Seattle

Basically this case is not worth buying, as it doesn't serve any other purpose than to cover your iPad. When you attempt to fold up the screen cover to use as a stand, it only raises the ipad a half inch, not suitable for almost any viewing scenarion except if you are literally standing above the Ipad hovering over a desk. But lying down, sitting in a chair or bed, the Ipad is not facing you, its facing the ceiling, forcing you to hold it in your hands, and making the case meaningless.

    Amazing case, but falls apart...

    • Written by from Powell river

I purchased this case for my new iPad 3and loved it. Unfortunately within the first months the pins that run along the side to connect the 2 parts came undone and I lost one of the small pieced to put it back together. (that was after fixing it 5x before!)

Wish it was made better as it really was a great case. Maybe I just got a dud. Lost my receipt so could not take it back to the store...

Protects but a joke as to standing up.

    • Written by from Amarillo

This cover, which I ordered 4 for myself and family protects the Ipad and all its corners well. However, standing the Ipad is another story. The back part should have two sections; at the most three. To divide in four sections, the Ipad is too top heavy and keeps falling back. If you let it continue to fall back you will end up breaking glass.

You could improve by sectioning in two the stand and also, include a place where stylus can be carried.

    Dissappointed

    • Written by from Montreal,QC

Looks and feels great, but is very flimsy and not fitted correctly. My iPad does not fit right in place, I dropped it and it now has a dent in it. I would of preferred a harder more sturdy back instead of a thin fabric.

Revised Rating (3 down to 2 stars)

    • Written by from Cupertino

I have had my new cover for about 2 hours and I will definitely be returning it tomorrow. It has no stability to speak of when you stand the iPad upright and the cover doesn't stay closed unless it is laying flat on a table. What garbage, Apple! You can do better. I really hope this isn't a sign of things to come...

    For $49 - Pass

    • Written by from Summerville

I bought this case for my iPad, thinking it would be the answer to the SmartCover not protecting the back. Well, it is and isn't.

As others have said, the hinge is not great, and it is a bit awkward to open the top flap. The highest viewing angle puts the iPad at just under 90 degrees...a bit too high. In particular, the dark grey is not very dark, just a typical (and bright) grey.

The biggest drawbacks are the colors (wish for a BLACK one), awkwardness, and poor design (in my opinion). It's also quite hard to get the iPad out of the case.

For $49, invest in something else. Maybe if it were $29 I would consider it more.

    $50, really??

    • Written by from Madison

Bought it sight unseen. I mean come on, its Apple and I expected it to be pretty darn nice. In all fairness, the iPad fits really well in it and I like that part, but the corners are sharp, the hinge doesn't look like it will last, the cover kinda covers down, but doesn't stay very well and it feels like a cheap piece of cardboard. Will return and get a plastic back from someone else and an Apple smart cover with the good hinge instead. Very disappointing to buy an Apple branded product like this. Never before have I been this let down by them. If it were $15 or $20 from a third party I could go with it, but not $50 from Apple themselves.

    Protects but hurts

    • Written by from Orem

I bought this thinking I wanted full protection for my iPad, it went in fairly easily and looked good. I used it for a little bit and it felt okay. I video chatted with someone, having to hold the iPad as I was not near a table or anyplace to put it down. after just 10 min of continuous holding I noticed that there are very sharp edges around the case and they were cutting into my hand. Making it almost impossible to use for long periods. I will be returning this product.

    Difficult to open

Need fingernails to pry the cover open. The screen cover is smaller than the overall case, so it's very had to grab the edge to open it.

    Bad Choice

    • Written by from New Windsor

The case was badly designed because it was made in two pieces and when they were combined you were left with a uncomfortable edge of the case. Ive had mine for a few weeks and the cover part is already starting to wrinkle and brake. Its had to take off to put in docks as well.

    Form Fit and Function

    • Written by from Lake Peekskill

    Form
This case is a nice looking iteration of the original iPad case but of course that is subjective. It has nice curves that compliment the iPad with cut outs for the speaker, mute switch, headphones and 30 pin connector. The accented volume button with plus and minus graphics is a nice touch as is the power button. The apple logo is also nice.

    Fit
Here is where the smart case fails miserably. The case does not fit snug, it some times pops out if held in a certain way and there are gaps big enough between the iPad and the case that you can see right through. I tried this case with both an iPad 2 and iPad 3rd generation which is bigger and to my surprise they both fit terribly. This is a big FAIL. FYI I've tried two different smart cases purchased months apart to see if I just got a bad case.

    Function
The smart case does it's job, it protects the front and back of the iPad, the stand seems to work well on flat even surfaces and it turns the iPad on and off as intended. The buttons as described early are a nice addition. The edges of the case are hard and seemingly sharp, it is very uncomfortable to hold and fails in this respect. Users have also complained of magnetic hold of the cover being week and therefore disengaging easily but have also complained about the cover being difficult to open because it sits flush with the case and requires finger nails to lift it open, I agree with the complaints. So for function it does what is intended but falls short, leaves much to be desired. So it kinda Fails in my book.

I hope this review is helpful to buyers.

    Good concept, poorly executed.

    • Written by from Calgary

I've always wanted Apple to release a full case but this was not what I had in mind. It's uncomfortable to hold and the edges feel a bit sharp in my hands. The cover is not the easiest to open either. I don't mind the material and I like the amount of protection that is offered. Overall this is not up to their usual quality. I hope this is a one off mistake and not the future of Apple innovation.

Looks nice, but is painful to use

    • Written by from San Diego

I really like the fit and finish of this case. I want to love this case, but the sharp edges of it make it painful to hold for any length of time.

The problem is that the edges dig into the palms of your hands.

I'm going to have to return it and search for something that won't hurt to use.

    Some issues

This is very light and slim case which is good but when the front is flipped back it is always flops. I hope they put a magnet or something to keep it open.

    Smart case vs Smart Cover

    • Written by from Victoria

I have used both the Apple cover plus aftermarket back cover and the new smart case. I do prefer the former based solely on the ease of opening it. The smart case is much more difficult to open. It requires you to use a fingernail to pry it open. The older combination of cover and protective back cover was by comparison much easier. My wife has an aftermarket case but the magnetic switch to put the iPad to sleep doesn't always work. It too is much easier to open. Advice, try them in the store.

    Poor design...

    • Written by from Conway

The magnetic connection comes off too easily. Because of this...my iPad slipped from the cover and shattered on impact. Definitely not worth the money. Replacing it with something more secure once I get my iPad repaired!!

    That Hinge! Hate it!

    • Written by from Dayton

I like the case, the continued slimming effect, in fact I bought several, but I stopped using it. The hinge is annoying as I carry my iPad almost as much as I carry my iPhone (all the time)
