    It does what it says

    • Written by from Playa Vista

It is super simple to attach, it holds fine, flat or upright, no issues. I like it a lot. A little pricey but hey that is Apple, loool. I honestly do not understand why people complain. It works as shown in the videos.

    Some people: Dumb. Cover: Good

I really question the human race after reading all of the reviews for the smart cover. EVERY supposed negative listed here (save one which I'll address) is COMPLETELY IRRELEVANT to this product. Doesn't have a back cover? Not supposed to--BUY ONE. Doesn't protect from falls? NOT SUPPOSED TO. Doesn't keep from someone dropping? NOT SUPPOSED TO. My God, not only is it not supposed to, no one anywhere. especially Apple, ever promised it would. So why would any intelligent human assume it would or should??

Only one critique listed here is even relevant to the product--price. $49 may or may not be too expensive, that is debatable. The cover works and does just what is promised, it has drawbacks like most things, hence my 4 stars, but overall it works--just like it is supposed to.

This is a good product for it's intended use (to protect from scratches)

    • Written by from Lehi

I have had my gray poly cover now for several months. It can get dirty quite fast but fortunately it cleans up nicely and can look new again with little effort. The magnet has never been a problem with the one I have. However, a coworker showed me how the magnet on his cover is not strong. I was surprised to see the difference between the two. As an engineer, it seems the problem may be in the long bar housing the magnet. It is thin and can be bent if not careful (if you pull the cover off agressively and repeatedly). When it is bent it may not make good contact with the iPAD and can come off easier than intended. It may also be a manufacturing flaw in that the magnets just aren't consistent.

I like mine. It works for protecting the screen against scratches. It WILL NOT protect the iPAD from a fall where it lands on edge and probably not even if it lands on it's face. For that type of protection you will need a bulkier case that cushions it and even then if the case is too hard or too soft and not designed properly (optimally placed gaps between the case and iPAD) it will not likely survive a significant fall to a hard surface.

This cover was never designed to protect from falls nor does it sound like (from other user comments) it was designed to be a handle.

One last thing, it can be folded into the triangle in two ways (with the felt inside or out). If folded the wrong way (felt inside) and propped vertically, a tiny push on the screen can cause it to unfold and fall. But, with the felt on the outside it can pick up debris that can then scratch the screen when closed again.

    Light colours show dirt

    • Written by from Burnaby

I've had my grey case for 10 or so months now. I bought the grey case to match the silver and not get super hot while out in the sun. Well it still works just fine. But it's not getting any prettier. I've used a damp cloth a couple times to remove smudges of dirt or whatever. But it's looking pretty aged already. Perhaps a darker colour would hide these. As a stand it works great.

    Pretty good

    • Written by from Camden

Well first off I am going to state that the smart cover is not intended to protect the outside body of the iPad itself. I think people are forgetting to cover in their reviews that the product is not a case by any means. It's a COVER.

But anyway. It works as it is advertised to do. Cover the screen, and turn the screen on when you unfold it, and lock it down once the cover is closed. Although I do not believe when they it is suppost to "clean" your screen when you cover it back up. Even though it does cover it from dust and dirt.

The light gray color also goes great with the new white iPad. I have the smart cover on the front to protect the screen and a black case on the back and it goes great.

It might be overpriced. But it works very well with a back case.

    Its good, needs improvement

    • Written by from Monclova

Well, I like how it wakes up and goes to sleep, but I wish it covered the back. Also, when you try to stand up your ipad for facetime, it collapses. The magnets cannot support the weight of the ipad. If you don't use it for a facetime stand, it works well. However, i would not purchase it again for $40. That is extremely overpriced.

    Works fine, looks great

I've had this cover in pink poly for a month, using it every day. Right now it is folded into a triangle, resting on top of a book as I type. If I want my iPad to rest more upright, the folded cover stays put on a raised surface, because of the suede texture on it. I use it at home mostly. It also works well when I am in my recliner, resting the iPad on my tummy or legs, cover side down.

I did put ipad in my purse a couple times with the cover on, and it worked well, but I can see how it could scratch. Thats why I have a dedicated sleeve to my purse where the iPad goes, no keys or anything else. So the back of the iPad is not covered, but there are no scratches on it. Yet.

The magnets work beautifully, it's really an ingenious device. I am glad I got it. it still looks new.

I gave this nice cover 4 stars because I am loathe to give anything the highest rating. Also it is pricey. I got it during the Black Friday sale, so I got a discount.

Thank you to the people who reviewed, saying they cracked their iPad. They remind me to continue being very careful with this lovely machine. I will never pick it up by the cover again!

Innovative, prevents scratches, really bad colors!

    • Written by from New York

The smart cover is more scratch protection than anything else. That said, the auto on functionality of the cover conjures the idea of a laptop being wakened from sleep mode or a book being opened and ready to read. It humanizes the iPad in an intriguing way that goes beyond protection. It won't protect against any serious accidents nor does it protect the back, but third-party providers have covered those two problems admirably. And yes, it's true, the magnet does detach fairly easily. However, it works as a very steady video or typing stand, and one shouldn't be rough with the iPad anyway!

What I want to know is...WHY DID APPLE CANCEL THE ORANGE? It was the best color among the polyurethane options, which are generally insipid. The worst colors in a long time from Apple.

    Great for its purpose

    • Written by from Recife

I've been using this cover for three months now. I left it attached to my iPad for all this time and I have not had any issues with it.

Contrary to many negative reviews in this page, it's never scratched the metallic back surface of my iPad, neither I had it unattaching from the device inside a backpack nor while I was using it as a stand for watching movies. Also, I can't see how the smart cover could possibly make it difficult to charge the device. The hinges are nowhere near the 30 pin connector port.

If your smart cover presents any of the above problems, it's faulty and you should replace it in the nearest apple store.

My only concern is that it seems to be losing its magnetic strength over time. I'm not sure if I have a faulty smart cover, I'll see how it goes and will surely be swiping for a new one if it comes to a point I am no longer able to suspend my iPad by pulling it from the cover.

An issue particularly related to the white cover is that it gets dirty over time; even slightly dark stains are very noticeable, so you better learn to wash it periodically.

    iPad smart cover

    • Written by from Vancouver

Nice design, typically Apple. Sleek and simple, easy to put on and take off. Nice feature that allows the iPad to lock when closed and wakes when opened. Would be nice to have protection on the backside as well. Feels good on the fingers, both the polyurethane outside and the felt material on the inside. Dont waste your money on the leather one. Definately overpriced, but what can u do?! Nice options with color, wish there were more though. Overall, I am very satisfied with this product.

    Not too bad

    • Written by from Vancouver

My boyfriend bought me the iPad 2 for Christmas and took me the next day to get the cover. I chose the pink, which goes great with the white iPad. I was a little less than thrilled that it doesn't cover the entire iPad, I wasn't quite sure what it really did prior to being purchased. After having it for a little while now I quite like it. It keeps my screen clean and is great for propping up on my lap. I don't like that the back of my iPad is exposed so I will be looking for some form of case that can be combined with the cover to give it more protection.
All in all it does what it says it will with a nice pop of color.

Cruising? Do not put near your room key!

    • Written by from Burke

This cover does stay put and works well enough to protect my Ipad2. However, on a recent cruise, my room key with its magnetic stripe would stop working and the battery on my iPad2 would completely discharge. It's the magnetic hinges near (in the same tote bag) the magnetic stripe of a room key or credit card. Be cautious. Put your room key in your pocket.

    Really nice addition to iPad2

    • Written by from La Habra

I got my smart cover over a two weeks ago and I haven't had any of the issues stated on here.
    My oppinion:
This is a very nice looking addition and modest potection to the iPad2. This would be the minreason I only gave it a 4 star rating. I have a zagg shield on the front and a Belkin snap cover for the back. All these components work very well together. I love the look and feel of my device, being able to remove and replace the smart cover with such ease and use my device is such a neat experience. My last accessory will be a neoprene soft sleeve just as peace of mind on my 600$ investment ( it helps me sleep better at night ! ).

    But is it worth $40?

    • Written by from Ballston Lake

Here's a poser for you: we have a product that does what it's advertised to do. It does it well. I use it all the time. So, it's a good, usable product that should be highly recommended. But is it worth $40? I guess the answer to that question depends on how you're likely to use your iPad. If you're carrying it around a lot outside of your home/workplace, you might be better served with a more substantial cover. However, if you're using your iPad essentially in one location and want to protect it from run-of-the mill jostling (and you want the convenience of using the opening of the cover to wake your iPad), it's probably worth ponying up the 40 bucks. Your call!

    Good.

    • Written by from Vancouver

Great product, it works perfectly and the only annoyance is that the screen will still get deity with it over time... Based on other reviews I've seen I guess I got the only working smart cover. Maybe you'll get a working one to if you buy it.
