DO NOT BUY - No so smart cover

This cover just cost me $420 as I had to replace the iPad2 after the screen was broken. The "smart" cover attaches to the iPad with a magnetic strip that does not sustain the weight of the iPad body. Anyone unfamiliar with the cover may, as in my case pick up the unit by the cover only - when this happened to me the unit fell onto a kitchen floor and cracked the screen = $420 to replace.

Also - the smooth (read no grip) rear of the iPad is exposed when using the "smart" cover, its very easy to slip out of your hands.

    Light colours show dirt

I've had my grey case for 10 or so months now. I bought the grey case to match the silver and not get super hot while out in the sun. Well it still works just fine. But it's not getting any prettier. I've used a damp cloth a couple times to remove smudges of dirt or whatever. But it's looking pretty aged already. Perhaps a darker colour would hide these. As a stand it works great.

    Nice concept, but weak magnets

I loved my Smart Cover, until one day I was unfolding it to close it up again and the hinge magnet slipped, letting my iPad fall off my lap onto the ground. My iPad suffered a small dented corner in the aluminum backing and worse, a cracked screen. Argh! I had come to trust my Smart Cover too much, and it lulled me into a false sense of security. These accidents could have been prevented if 1) the Smart Cover had a more secure attachment to the iPad, and 2) if the iPad was more durable and didn't have a screen going right to the edge. I'll miss the convenience of the Smart Cover, but I'm going to find something more trustworthy and durable.

    Very happy with this cover

I'm surprised to see the complaints about the magnets not working. Has worked exactly as advertised for me for about 6 months now. I did buy an additional inexpensive back cover (Kensington?) which is compatible with the apple front cover, and offers a little more peace of mind plus a better grip on the otherwise slippery metal back. So the 2 products combined make for an ideal solution IMO.

This cover is great. Does exactly as advertised, very fun and easy to use. It's also very helpful, but probably at least $10 overpriced.

Useful and easy to use; watch out for ipad2 breakage

Bought the ipad2 a week ago and today as I was getting out of the car, the side of the ipad tapped against the metal door. Didn't hit the door hard, I barely noticed the tap, that is until I opened the ipad to use it in our hotel room. Huge cracks in the ipad glass (although the screen still works).

The ipad2 needs a full protective case like the Kindle has or one risks breakage like I had today when transporting the ipad2.

I called the Apple 800 number and was informed glass breakage will cost $299 to switch out another ipad2 for mine. Not on warranty either as it was an accidental breakage.

Even before I switch out I'm getting a protective case of some sort. Hard lesson learned.

Works great, but would like more position options

It protects the screen great, and I love its features, but I think it should have more position options since you can only have it barely tilted off the desk or standing . . . There are some snap cases that have a magnetic strip that will allow more positions, but I think it should be able to do so without having to buy more accesories. Othet that that, I love it. Keep'em coming apple!

The magnetic part scratched all my ipad and of course the warranty doesn't apply. Not recommended

    nice for the screen, but...

this is cool for protecting the face of the ipad 2, and looks nice, it can also be used as an oragami stand, setting it in different positions, However, it doesn't offer complete protection for the body of the ipad. i would recommend the sena zip book cover they offer which covers it entirely, and doubles as a stand as well.I actually use it with the sena zip book for extra protection, and it works nicely, and helps it fit more securely. personally, i think it is useful for anyone needing to use the ipad for a magnifier, so you can take it out of the zip book and use the smart cover as a stand, with enough room behind it to hand hold a document, for example, behind the ipad2 for magnifiication. so, it does have a few different purposes. the sena zip book can be used as a stand as well, but you have to take the ipad out to take pictures and to use the lense as a magnifier. So, if you can, i would get both. Besides, I am a fan of apple and their warranties on practically everything for at least a year. Hope this is helpful.

I love my Smart Cover. I thought it was going to be really bad and a waste of money, but it isn't. I recommend this to anyone.

Great cover. Convenient. Love how it converts to a stand and how it wakes it up and puts it to sleep automatically!

Like another customer here, this cover works perfectly! I have used the pink one for a year when I bought my iPad 2. My husband just upgraded his iPad to the 2 and bought this grey one and again it works perfectly. Those who say it collapses under the weight of the iPad simply do not know how to fold it properly as a stand. I also love the on/off feature of the iPad the cover provides. Definitely NOT disappointed!

It is super simple to attach, it holds fine, flat or upright, no issues. I like it a lot. A little pricey but hey that is Apple, loool. I honestly do not understand why people complain. It works as shown in the videos.

Great product, it works perfectly and the only annoyance is that the screen will still get deity with it over time... Based on other reviews I've seen I guess I got the only working smart cover. Maybe you'll get a working one to if you buy it.

Basically worthless except as a cover. Very clumsy to get it to fold under the ipad without the magnetic strip disconnecting from the ipad, which the video makes seem effortless, and it is unable to hold the weight of the ipad if you try it as an upright stand - it simply collapses.
