    Great cover!

I love the navy blue leather cover I purchased. It's like most things Apple produces; simple, attractive design that "just works". I also purchased a Belkin snap cover for the back which I am equally pleased with so far. The only reason I rated the smart cover 4 instead of 5 stars is due to the price. I think it should be about $20 cheaper.

    Very poor quality

I was quite disappointed in the build quality of this case. I returned it the day I got it. The form and fit is not snug, and feels very cheaply made.

The smart cover portion does not line up flush ontop, and I had constant problems with sleep and wake functionality. There are tons of third party covers that do the job better.

I highly recommend you look and feel in a store before buying.

I am still baffled that Apple thought this case was quality they would put their name on...

    Rusty pins and stains

SMART COVER "not" in three weeks it started to rust, in the hinge there are pins either they are the magnets or steel pin dowels that hold the plastic in place where it make contact to the iPad. It started to rust and leave stains on edge of the IPad that barely came off and it started to loss it holding strength pop off real easy. Spead good money on the I pad just to get rust stains on it not to smart! I got my temporaly fixed for now until I save money to buy something else better DO NOT BUY IT NOT A SMART BUY

    Looks cool, barely works

The purpose of a protective cover is to protect, but this barely fits the bill. Apple is famous for it's impeccable design and engineering, but this time they focussed too much on form and not enough on function.

The cover is held to the iPad with magnets, so when any sort of weight is applied, say that of an iPad, it separates from that which it is supposed to protect. This means that if you accidentally grab it only by the cover, your iPad will go crashing to the ground (and in my case, the screen shattered).

Also, because it uses strong magnets, don't put it in the same bag as your wallet if you don't want to wipe your credit cards, and don't put it next to any portable hard drives either, unless you are trying to erase them. The old Apple iPad cover they made for the 1st generation was much better, even if it was a bit uglier. At least it worked.

Only Apple "Cases" for iPad Nu?

    • Written by from Washington

Noticed that the store only sells Apple folding covers. The folding covers don't protect the back which gets really scratched up. Going to go looking at other stores for all peripherals because it is easer to just order all together

    Good screen protector but .....

I love the simplicity and ease of attachment. It provides good protection of the screen from accidental scratches, etc. It also provides you with something comfortable to hold when using it. BUT, it leaves the screen with dirt, dust, or grimy marks. It just bugs me to see those smudges. It goes against what Apple says (i.e. "its microfiber lining keeps your iPad screen clean" LOL!!!).

Hesitant to order this cover given some of the lousy reviews it got, but pleasantly surprised! Works exactly as advertised as a cover and a stand. A bit pricey, but good quality. Wish they had a matching part for the back...

I really love the smart cover. Works really well on the New iPad. The fact that it doubles up as a stand is brilliant. However don't expect any great protection...it will cover your screen ok but the rest of the iPad is still just as vulnerable as it was without the cover. Keep this in mind when purchasing. Can't fault the rest of it though, it's a great addition to my iPad!

    Smart cover? Dumb cover.

This was a waste of money. The magnet is weak. Stand function is weak. Protection is far from sufficient. Definitely not a good option if kids will be using it. I upgraded from the original iPad and case and there weren't many Apple-recommended options. Throwing this one away and buying a 3rd party case.

    Not Apple's best idea ever

The new Smart Cover may work for some... But for the rest of us a cover that is connected magnetically just isn't working out so well... If all you do is use the cover to rest the iPad on the table top it works fine... So does a stack of paper...

When carrying the iPad with the cover the cover easily separates from the iPad making it likely that the iPad will be dropped. When attempting to use the cover to assist in holding the iPad when sitting, it doesn't take much movement to separate the cover from the iPad. So what's the point.

My bottom line is that you should purchase a 3rd party cover/case that firmly attaches to the iPad. You'll be much happier...

Does what it was designed to do

The Smart cover was not made to be a case for protection or for preventing scratches to the back. I love my Smart cover. It maintains the integrity of the iPad design. I personally prefer the polyurethane and think that it is more durable. I have mine combined with the neoprene sleeve, and it is perfect. The incase origami sleeve works particularly well with the smart cover and gives me a lot of different angles on which to prop the iPad. I love the Smart cover.

This is great for turning the iPad on and off...but it needs a caution..If you have a pacemaker do not buy it. I found myself getting light-headed and had to quickly remove it and toss it out of working range. Eventually I gave it to my granddaughter so she could have fun with the magnets.

    Sleek garbage

It was completely useless, offered no protection, did not stand firmly, kept dropping off. I had to constantly worry about not knocking it down while using the iPad. If you're buying it for the cool factor remember that it won't look very cool when it hardly stays on. This is not a practical choice by any standards.

I find this cover keeps disconnecting from my iPad 3 whenever I attempt to use it as a stand in either of the positions displayed in the demo video. It also disconnects easily if I just fold it behind the iPad. It's only redeeming quality is that it protects the display when I transport my iPad in a pack. There are many better and cheaper options to use. Yes I've connected it correctly to my iPad.

not an effective cover. magnetics are ineffective, do not hold well. Great if your biggest challenge is going to the local internet cafe. However if you are traveling, placing iPad in the back pack , jumping on the train etc. not a quality protective cover. Im returning.

This is a great iPad case. I doesn't cover all the iPad like I hoped for, but it is still, really nice. It have an adjustable case that lets you bend it so you can type easier, and so that you can tilt it up to watch a movie. What I really like is that it's attached to your iPad not by clip, but by magnet, so that way you can take it off easy. What's also great is that it saves you power, so when you close the cover over the iPad screen, it puts it to sleep, and when you open it back up, it's at the spot where you closed it. It's super thin, and I really suggest this as your iPad cover.

    Awesome minimalistic function!

This cover does exactly what it was designed to do, protect the screen of the iPad, with minimal bulk, when you think that Apple managed to make it so it also puts it to sleep and wakes it up without waiting for it to turn on is amazing. Plus it doubles as a stand. I have never had a problem from day 1. I think the cover is almost as amazing as the iPad. Hey if you don't like it buy a bulky Targus cover.

I have used this for over 6 months..no problems. Saves the battery, works great as two angle stand, easily cleaned the vinyl with soft cloth and mild soap, magnets continue to work fine...no problem, microfiber does keep screen safe and cleans it as well. Most of all...it's slim great looking design compliments the Apple IPad design and impresses people when they see me using it's functions. If you other critics want full protection, you should have bought a laptop with a case!
    Just buy one.
