    Could be improved.

    • Written by from Markham

This is a minimal, elegant, lightweight, thin, and simple stand for your iPad. These attributes are consistent with Apple's philosophy, and are what attracted me to this stand.

The experience of this product is very mediocre however.

One of the problems this cover has is that it's attachment to the iPad is too weak. Either the magnet near the hinge is too weak, or they should have used another method for attaching the cover to the iPad - which is more preferable.

The cover could also offer a strap for carrying ease.

The hinge could have "friction"/be slower.

I was also deciding between this and the DODOCase, but the negative reviews regarding the DODOCase's poor durability drove me away. This cover could borrow the DODOCase's hard book realism, familiarity, personal-ness, experience, "sexiness". But maybe that's something that should be left to 3rd party accessory makers.

Rating: 7.5/10 as a simple, multi-purpose stand. Initial, just-bought evaluation.

    No protection, but small

    • Written by from River Falls

This is not a protective case at all. The metal on the side of the iPad leaves marks. I would definitely recommend the smartCOVER over the smartCASE,because that is almost just as slim, but way more protective.

    Caution! Virtually NO protection

    • Written by from Iowa City

Sure, this covers your iPad screen, but if and when you drop it, your iPad could be toast.

I also found the magnetic connectors to not be substantial enough to resist coming off when holding with one hand.

I am getting a cover that the iPad slips in to so I have some protection of the corners should I drop my iPad.

Works great, what is wrong with you?

    • Written by from Moorpark

Negative reviews seem to balk at how the cover falls off before the owner drops it and cracks the screen. Treat the iPad like it's an electronic device and transport it carefully. If you want a minimalist cover that works great to protect your screen and hold the device in various positions, then this is perfect. I also like the way when one opens the cover the iPad wakes. People that are klutzes should spend $50 more and buy an Otterbox.

    It won't stay in place.

    • Written by from Homestead

I love love love my iPad. The Smart Cover is stupid. It will not stay in place and it slid off while I was carrying my iPad and fell to the ground scratching my screen and denting the corners as it rolled across the driveway. Thankfully, my iPad still works! The magnet worked well for quite some time, but now it sticks and then just slides off the pad. I am only giving this item one star. The concept is good as long as the magnet works.

    Worth the extra money, IMO

    • Written by from Sauquoit

I've had my iPad 3 since October and just finally got a REAL smart cover. I have two fakes from Amazon, and the real thing is way better quality than the fakes. Even right out of the packaging I noticed a HUGE difference. It's softer inside, sturdier outside (no creases after a week - fakes developed deep creases after the first couple of folds), magnets are better/stronger, and doesn't get dirty. I got the dark grey, and it's definitely worth the extra money, in my opinion. I don't regret my purchase at all.

    Terrific case

    • Written by from Seekonk

I've been using the product red Smart cover for three months now. Potential buyers should understand this is just a cover not a case for Protection from dropping, etc. I first bought the smart case but found that it obscured too much of the design of the actual iPad. So I traded it in for the smart cover and am much happier with it. I like the Apple design aesthetic and was attracted to the case because it works really well with that vocabulary. I would recommend you purchase a darker color, that will obscure any fingerprints or smudges. The case will show wear after a while, I have a leather one. I actually like the slight cracking that is starting to occur, it feels like an expensive and often used item, like my favorite briefcase or pair of gloves. It's a very tactile experience, extremely satisfying to hold. Considering that this is an item that I use every day, I'm Very happy with my purchase. I also own a third party case for protection for those occasions when I need to have just the iPad without a briefcase or bag to carry it in.

Very happy with this buy, does what it is supposed to do, PROTECT THE FRONT. There are so many people mad because it doesn't protect the back. It is a cover not a case. And it is a very good cover

    waste of money

    • Written by from Phoenix

I bought this cover because it was cheaper than the full case and that was a bad decision. first off, the back is unprotected. I've always liked mac products but this one, I feel like i've been duped. why would apple make a product that only covers the front? i accidentally dropped my ipad and the corner cracked because it was unprotected. I bought the green case and was told at the store that it was easy to clean, not true. The case gets dirty and stains almost instantly. the magnetic attachment is neat but it falls off a lot. i love the idea of the magnetic top powering the ipad on and off. that is the only reason this got 2 stars. My advice, spend the money on the leather full case or find an alternative manufacturer. it will protect ALL of the ipad AND clean better.

    Okay product

The Smart Cover gets dirty very fast, and starts to wear out very fast as well. It does protect the screen well enough, but the dirtiness and the wearing out are not good.

Ipad 2 Smart cover smart, but lazy

    • Written by from Philadelphia

The smart cover is pretty awesome when you first get it. Which, I suppose, is why i'm pretty disappointed with how poorly it performs over time. Soon enough the magnetic strip loses strength, the clothe starts to wear and the glue comes loose. What actually happened first is the material around the magnet started to sag like the ceiling fabric of an old car. All in all, Apple needs to improve durability.

    GREAT, but annoying

    • Written by from Cedarville

The cover is perfect for protecting the screen, and a fairly good prop for placing the i pad at different viewing angles, but it is truly terrible at keeping the screen clean as it claims. The main reason for this "issue" is simply that the surface which goes against the screen when it is closed, is the same surface of the cover that goes onto every table and counter, and whatever else you prop up the i pad on. So whatever dirt is there, however insignificant, gets deposited onto the cover, of the correct surface to go right onto the screen. As a result, no matter how careful i am, i have to clean my screen from deposits my cover put on it, more than from my fingers. like i said, annoying. On the flip side, i really like how thin it is. i bought the i pad to have my books on it, so i don't have to try to carry them around,so it helps with that. Thinner than other cases.

    Cover does not stay attached

    • Written by from Tempe

I like the look and feel of this cover. Unfortunately, after two weeks of use it is not staying attached to my iPad mini. Although I am not using the cover as a handle, it is falling off when I pick up the device. Today the cover came off when I merely closed my mini. I've dropped the device several times in the last two days when the cover has come off. This will eventually lead to a broken mini. I'm replacing this cover with a different, safer one.

    Not happy

    • Written by from Union

I don't normally write reveiws, but wanted others to know the good, bad and ugly of this product. I love the design itself. Thin and lightweigt - and I love being able to fold the cover in different positions to prop it up. But, as others have pointed out, the hinges have scratched off the surface so I now see shiny metal. The most annoying thing to me is that the cover doesn't stay firmly in one place when closed. It slips easily. I bring it to work every day in my computer bag and can constantly hear the click click click of it waking up and sleeping. I'll be purchasing something different.

Does what it is supposed to!

Saw alot of bad reviews and not to sure what people are expecting from this. The cover, covers my iPad and prtects it. The wake up and sleep fuction performs correctly. All the different fold set ups work just the way they are supposed to. It is good quailty. I think it is worth the money and a great buy.

    Badly designed product

    • Written by from Timperley

After less than 8 months of use I'm scrapping my Smart Cover because the hinges have damaged the back of my iPad and the magnetic attachment seems to be weaker then when I first got it.
Opening and closing the case has caused the hinge blocks to scratch the iPad back so there's now shiny metal on the hinge blocks and on my iPad. This can only be due to bad design which, for a company like Apple which trades on its reputation for cool, well designed but expensive kit, is reprehensible.
With the cover in place you have to use it as a handle (because the iPad is so smooth there's nothing else to grip and you can't add anything more to act as a handle) so those reviewers who insist that's not what it should be used for, and rudely question the intelligence of people who do, must have found some other way of holding it and should enlighten us with some constructive comments. So, the magnetic coupling apparently having got weaker over the few months I've used it means that the cover inconveniently detaches from time to time, more frequently as time goes by. I'm careful with it now, so I haven't damaged my iPad, but to me it's another indicator of the poor design of this product.
Unsurprisingly, I recommend you don't buy this product.
