Only Apple "Cases" for iPad Nu?

    • Written by from Washington

Noticed that the store only sells Apple folding covers. The folding covers don't protect the back which gets really scratched up. Going to go looking at other stores for all peripherals because it is easer to just order all together

    Great case!

    • Written by from Port Orange

For what this case is designed to do it is wonderful. People expect too much of it but for what it is designed to do it works great. It isn't too flimsy and it protects the screen.

    elegant minimalist design

    • Written by from Collegeville

I don't want a cover that covers too much of the iPad. I just need something to protect the screen from dust and scratches. I don't feel the bottom needs to be wrapped up since i don't' wrap up my apple computer either. So, this cover protects the screen but also showcases the beauty and elegance of the iPad itself. It's a perfect minimalist design for me.

This one is great. I've read reviews that the leather one can stretch over time, but with this one it doesn't seem to be the case (no pun intended).

    Practically useless

    • Written by from Rohnert Park

I find this cover keeps disconnecting from my iPad 3 whenever I attempt to use it as a stand in either of the positions displayed in the demo video. It also disconnects easily if I just fold it behind the iPad. It's only redeeming quality is that it protects the display when I transport my iPad in a pack. There are many better and cheaper options to use. Yes I've connected it correctly to my iPad.

    Love it

    • Written by from Los Angeles

The cover is sleek and very handy when propping it up to place on the table. It's not meant to be handled roughly, because it's magnetic it comes off, however still helps protect the screen. The back is not protected, but I purchased a cover separately for it. Anyway, I am pleased with it.

When SJ announced this when IPad2 came out I thot he was a mind reader. I love the thinness of iPad but u do need to protect the glass. But wrapping it in something thick is ridiculous. This solves the problem - protects the glass and preserves the small size. The back is aluminum so its very tough so not covering that is no big deal. Plus the back of an iPad is beautiful - why cover it up!? And of course the whole way the cover works is just cool.

My only advice is get a very dark color. I got a red leather one and if it gets stained its hard to clean stained leather (not an Apple problem its just the way leather is). So i got a black one and stains are not a problem. I suppose the grey one might be good for dirt as well.

Can't imagine my iPad without this cover. Also i was able to move my black one over to my 3rd gen iPad with no problem.

falls off, doesn't protect back of device

    • Written by from Potomac

I prefer the old covers which encase the entire device. This one comes off too easily. If you grab the device by the cover, it comes off easily, and the device crashes to the floor/ground. It doesn't protect the aluminum back of the device, which is susceptible to nicks and scratches. This cover does not protect the device if you drop it.

Decent, but was hoping for more.

    • Written by from Fort Thomas

This is my first iPad, and when I pre ordered it I also picked up the smart cover. I guess I expected a little more protection. It functions exactly as described, I'm not claiming to have been misled or anything, but I am checking the apple store every other day for a new case that actually provides a little protection. I know there are third party cases out there but I really wish I could get one designed by apple itself. If your careful with you iPad at all times, or don't take it out of the house much, this case will work fine for you. I take mine everywhere so I am constantly concerned about it.

    Poor quality

Did not perform as expected. The cover does not fold into a good stand, and the magnets stopped working after a couple of weeks.

    Its sort of okay

    • Written by from Ilmenau

I bought the dark grey poly-whatever version, since it's the only decent looking non-animal-skin smart cover. I think its a shame that Apple is not offering the much better looking dark blue and red smart covers made out of plastic.

They do work great however. It's a real pleasure to open and close your iPad! Only downside: You get stripes on your iPad. On the other hand, the Smart Cover can be used to clean your screen again so thats not a biggie.

All in all a pretty decent product.

    Great cover!

    • Written by from Brentwood

I love the navy blue leather cover I purchased. It's like most things Apple produces; simple, attractive design that "just works". I also purchased a Belkin snap cover for the back which I am equally pleased with so far. The only reason I rated the smart cover 4 instead of 5 stars is due to the price. I think it should be about $20 cheaper.

    Not Apple's best idea ever

    • Written by from Fairfax

The new Smart Cover may work for some... But for the rest of us a cover that is connected magnetically just isn't working out so well... If all you do is use the cover to rest the iPad on the table top it works fine... So does a stack of paper...

When carrying the iPad with the cover the cover easily separates from the iPad making it likely that the iPad will be dropped. When attempting to use the cover to assist in holding the iPad when sitting, it doesn't take much movement to separate the cover from the iPad. So what's the point.

My bottom line is that you should purchase a 3rd party cover/case that firmly attaches to the iPad. You'll be much happier...

This "cover" actually Increases the odds that you will drop and damaging your iPad. Not only does it leave the slippery back of your iPad exposed, the weak magnetic grip holding it on the front gives the false illusion of a solid grip for the front. It will easily slip off if you rely on it for this purpose and you will have destroyed your new iPad. I've just ordered a folio style cover to replace this cover. There are a number of them for sale on Amazon, but you need to read the reviews carefully to assure that they fit the new iPad properly. Some of the early attempts did not fit.

    simple and perfect

    • Written by from Palo Alto

i mostly use my iPad at home, but id feel safe having this case on the move

i'd probably put it in a neoprene sleeve when its in my backpack or something, but otherwise it works really well just to protect the glass

the aluminum is very, very durable so I'm not worried about dings and scratches- think of it this way: do many people need a permanent case for their MacBooks? those thinks are totally scratch resistant

not an effective cover. magnetics are ineffective, do not hold well. Great if your biggest challenge is going to the local internet cafe. However if you are traveling, placing iPad in the back pack , jumping on the train etc. not a quality protective cover. Im returning.

    Not so good...

    • Written by from Birmingham

while the idea of a case that attaches via magnets, folds to allow various stand options, protects the screen, and auto wakes/sleeps seems like a good idea...it's not...the cover provides no protection to the sides/back of the iPad...and don't every try to move or pick up the ipad from just the cover as it will unhinge and the iPad will go falling...not to mention that folding it to provide a stand option doesn't actually work out as well as intended...go find a better case on amazon

I have the Smart Cover in Blue and have found a couple of things NOT to my liking when on my ipad 3... When the cover is on and you go to use it, if you open it too hard it comes off it's magnet attachments and I almost dropped the ipad because it did that, that being my biggest complaint... Also,it does not protect the back of the aluminum ipad 3 from any scratches to the surface of that aluminum, I don't care how sturdy it is, it will scratch. And when you are using it on a softer fabric other than a sturdy table, the Smart Cover when it is propped up in its standing position, does not hold the ipad in place, and that is in any of the fold up positions....And the colors are not that cool either...

Come on Apple, please come out with a better Smart Cover option, especially for the price of the ipad 3 and even for the price of the Smart Cover! We really need to have full use of the ipad while still protecting it!!! I know it is early yet, but you can do this!!!
