Works great, what is wrong with you?

    • Written by from Moorpark

Negative reviews seem to balk at how the cover falls off before the owner drops it and cracks the screen. Treat the iPad like it's an electronic device and transport it carefully. If you want a minimalist cover that works great to protect your screen and hold the device in various positions, then this is perfect. I also like the way when one opens the cover the iPad wakes. People that are klutzes should spend $50 more and buy an Otterbox.

    Great product

    • Written by from Indian Trail

Im well pleased with the cover. I think that it is important to note that this isn't marketed as a case that is going to protect against drop damage or protecting all surfaces - it magnetically sticks on (ie easy removal), covers the screen and serves as two different stands. It is what it is - cant knock it for not being a case. Does what it's supposed to do well.

    Not so smart cover

    • Written by from tonopah

I bought the orange smart cover for my ipad 2. It worked and looked nice for about a month. Then I could see areas of orange rubbing off. If you use a damp cloth to wipe it clean, the color comes off too. I always have this cover on my ipad and when I travel or put it up for the day, it is inside of a super soft and protective envelope style cover. The cover gets weak and is harder to fold it up to use as a stand. It falls a lot. I would research other covers out there before buying this one. Mine looks horrible after 5 months.

Ipad 2 Smart cover smart, but lazy

    • Written by from Philadelphia

The smart cover is pretty awesome when you first get it. Which, I suppose, is why i'm pretty disappointed with how poorly it performs over time. Soon enough the magnetic strip loses strength, the clothe starts to wear and the glue comes loose. What actually happened first is the material around the magnet started to sag like the ceiling fabric of an old car. All in all, Apple needs to improve durability.

    GREAT, but annoying

    • Written by from Cedarville

The cover is perfect for protecting the screen, and a fairly good prop for placing the i pad at different viewing angles, but it is truly terrible at keeping the screen clean as it claims. The main reason for this "issue" is simply that the surface which goes against the screen when it is closed, is the same surface of the cover that goes onto every table and counter, and whatever else you prop up the i pad on. So whatever dirt is there, however insignificant, gets deposited onto the cover, of the correct surface to go right onto the screen. As a result, no matter how careful i am, i have to clean my screen from deposits my cover put on it, more than from my fingers. like i said, annoying. On the flip side, i really like how thin it is. i bought the i pad to have my books on it, so i don't have to try to carry them around,so it helps with that. Thinner than other cases.

    It's a cover -- NOT a handle

    • Written by from Dresher

I'm seeing in these reviews people saying they dropped the iPad and were left holding the cover. Folks--it's not a handle, it's a cover. And--it's a cover that's held on with a magnet--NOT an industrial magnet, just a regular one. Don't carry the iPad around by the cover...

Mine works great--puts the iPad in sleep mode (check your settings if it's not doing it?). I wish there was a black one in the polyurethane, but gray was fine. Good investment...

Ruined My iPad, And my wood floor!

    • Written by from Skelmersdale

This cover as awful, cheaply made and is no different to any other cover other than it folds and stands up your iPad, Sort of!
I've had my iPad and smart cover for two months and over time I've noticed the magnet in my smart cover get weaker and weaker until this morning when I put it on my desktop in the movie/facetime position (which you can see above in the product description), anyway I put it down gently and made sure the smart cover was secure and the magnet slipped off! Next thing i knew my iPad was on the floor covered in dents and scratches, even my wood floor was dented! So because of this cheap, Diabolical cover my iPad is ruined and my wood floor has a huge dent in it! So if I was you I would pass and buy a cheaper alternative. I'm currently awaiting a response from Apple customer services as to what they are going to do about the damage caused to my iPad due to this failure of a cover. I thought I paid extra money for this thing to protect my iPad not to damage it! I wish I could Rate this thing Zero stars but I can't!

    Polyurethane pink cover

    • Written by from Rochester

This is a great cover for your iPad2. It goes on easily and folds back for a good grip to hold the iPad on your thighs when sitting in a chair. Also it rolls back easily to use on a table for typing. It cleans up clean as new with a wet soapy rag. No color has come off mine and I've washed it several times. I would not hesitate to recommend this cover. I do think they are over priced and never on sale. But no alternative cover will put the iPad to sleep.

    Badly designed product

    • Written by from Timperley

After less than 8 months of use I'm scrapping my Smart Cover because the hinges have damaged the back of my iPad and the magnetic attachment seems to be weaker then when I first got it.
Opening and closing the case has caused the hinge blocks to scratch the iPad back so there's now shiny metal on the hinge blocks and on my iPad. This can only be due to bad design which, for a company like Apple which trades on its reputation for cool, well designed but expensive kit, is reprehensible.
With the cover in place you have to use it as a handle (because the iPad is so smooth there's nothing else to grip and you can't add anything more to act as a handle) so those reviewers who insist that's not what it should be used for, and rudely question the intelligence of people who do, must have found some other way of holding it and should enlighten us with some constructive comments. So, the magnetic coupling apparently having got weaker over the few months I've used it means that the cover inconveniently detaches from time to time, more frequently as time goes by. I'm careful with it now, so I haven't damaged my iPad, but to me it's another indicator of the poor design of this product.
Unsurprisingly, I recommend you don't buy this product.

I really like it for what it is!! I'm not worried about the back (ipad)because I really don't abuse my ipad. If you just have your ipad at home for reading or web surfing get this cove, but, if you are going to be taking your ipad to work or school than, yes, maybe invest in the case.

Don't hold cover when taking photos/videos!

    • Written by from Madison Heights

We've had the smart cover on our ipad 2 for over a year now. The cover is nicely made, protects the screen when closed, folds for uses as in the info on website, & puts it to sleep. BUT: we've folded the cover back to take photos or video, holding the ipad w/2 hands, the magnetic connection can break allowing ipad to fall. You should NOT hold it by folded cover (easier said than done sometimes), when aiming camera for photo. Take it OFF. Last week, luck ran out, it hit a stone & concrete patio, shattering the glass screen. Functionality, fortunately, not effected. We didn't have accidental insurance, but found a local place to replace the screen at $140, considering ourselves very lucky. Have now ordered the smart case to use instead.

    Doesn't work as advertised

    • Written by from Ann Arbor

I had my first iPad for 3 months and had problems with the cover almost from day one. The magnetic hinges were always coming unattached and scratching my ipad. I also didn't like the angles it would prop it up, it never seemed a very good angle for me, plus once I would get it to a good angle it would proceed to fall out of that position quickly. The last straw was when I was folding the cover over, the hinges came off the iPad and I somehow managed to drop my iPad smashing the screen to bits (but the cover was still safe in my hands). I went back to Apple and got a replacement, for a fee, but that same day I also went on-line and found the most sturdy case I could find. It's been over a year now and I've had no problems with my non-Apple case.

Decent, but was hoping for more.

    • Written by from Fort Thomas

This is my first iPad, and when I pre ordered it I also picked up the smart cover. I guess I expected a little more protection. It functions exactly as described, I'm not claiming to have been misled or anything, but I am checking the apple store every other day for a new case that actually provides a little protection. I know there are third party cases out there but I really wish I could get one designed by apple itself. If your careful with you iPad at all times, or don't take it out of the house much, this case will work fine for you. I take mine everywhere so I am constantly concerned about it.

    Flimsy, not very stable.

    • Written by from Timonium

I really don't understand how this is sold at the price it is. It is not all that supportive of the iPad which is really too heavy for the foldiing top to be an effective stand. The material is protective but as a stand, poor design.

Snaps off too easily, metal hinges scratch laptop if used in same sleeve

    • Written by from Chandler

The idea is awesome: light weight and multiple angles. Unfortunately I find that with my Retina iPad the cover simply doesn't stay on well enough. It's constantly snapping off and causes me to fumble the iPad.

Additionally, I can't put it in my laptop sleeve because the hinges scratch it.

    Rusty pins and stains

    • Written by from Kapolei

SMART COVER "not" in three weeks it started to rust, in the hinge there are pins either they are the magnets or steel pin dowels that hold the plastic in place where it make contact to the iPad. It started to rust and leave stains on edge of the IPad that barely came off and it started to loss it holding strength pop off real easy. Spead good money on the I pad just to get rust stains on it not to smart! I got my temporaly fixed for now until I save money to buy something else better DO NOT BUY IT NOT A SMART BUY

    not too happy

    • Written by from Mississauga

i bought this because of the bulk of my griffin intellicase..bad decision

just 2 days of use later the back is filled with scratches..i have to carry it around like a delicate piece of equipment, even when handling the case, the magnets aren't strong enough to hold while watching movies. for the price its NOT worth it.

yeah the no bulk is a great factor and the suede cleans the screen but if you already have a screen protector the suede does nothing and even if you don't, all you'll get is dust on the screen which the suede will help in comparison to a regular magnetic on/off case.

i am a 100% apple customer, own everything by them and love everything, but this was a disappoinment
