Great idea.... quality doesn't hold up though.

    • Written by from Sherman

First off - costs way too much. The concept and functionality is great. Unfortunately the magnets don't stay strong during the life of the product. When the battery gets weak, the stand function is beyond frustrating as the cover constantly comes unattached when you're trying to watch videos. I also noticed early on that the metal finish on the hinge rubs off leaving dark marks on the case & iPad. The iPad marks rub off no problem, but they're permanent on the inside of the case. If cases weren't so expensive across the board I would have bought another case a long time ago. If the Smart Cover was only $10 I'd probably just buy a new one when the magnets got weak.

    Works great!

    • Written by from Destin

I looked at over 20 cases I feel, trying to find one that I liked and would work well with the iPad without making it look like a brick. One of the main features that I wanted was the smart closure. Getting the original was the best idea because it works great. I was worried when everyone was talking about how cheap it feels and looks. I was surprised by how nice it was and sturdy. Am very happy with my purchase and it keeps my iPad slim which is perfect.

    Great cover

    • Written by from Roseburg

I really like the fact you can easily take cover off and on when u don't want it on but it does fall off on accendent. It protects screen when carrying around and honestly I couldn't case less what the back of my iPad looks like. If it had a little hole for camera when folder open would be nice but I have not come across another iPad cover I would rather have.

I didn't know customers were dumb til I read reviews for this

    • Written by from Tacoma

This is quite obviously not a case to protect your iPad. That should be obvious right? I mean shoot. It's just a cover! How could that be anymore obvious? Over and over again people will drop their iPads blaming this cover for not protecting them and writing horrible reviews when really, it's meant as a nice little cover/ kickstand/ iPad waker upper.

This case has worked perfectly for me and well...it's hard to be really disappointed when you know what to expect. If you think you can put this cover on and throw it all over the place, yep. You'll be disappointed. In other news, iPads and lots of other things break when you drop them. So be careful and stop relying on cases to save your iPad from being destroyed

Only protects the FRONT of the iPAD, not the BACK!

    • Written by from MADISON

Placing any cover on a beautifully designed product such as the iPad or iPhone is not my favorite thing to do but it is required in order to maintain pristine condition. The day I purchased my iPad online, I quickly added this cover but I failed to study this cover in detail.
While this cover is a decent product it does absolutely nothing to protect the back of the iPad. The Apple cover for my iPad 1, while simple, protected the entire iPad 1 front and back.
I consider this "new" cover a wasted effort and wasted money. I wanted a cover that protects the entire iPad! This cover fails to perform such a simple task.

I bought a pink back cover and use the dark gray cover. My smartcover never falls off. I would never pick it by just the cover no matter what case I used. It does what it is intended to do.

    Simple. Perfect.

    • Written by from Temecula

People who complain that the cover doesn't cover the back are missing the point of this elegant thoughtful product. It elegant and completely on point with each little detail. It clips on with ease, no scratching, aligns perfectly, and if you're smart enough to figure out that you can lay the ipad on the cover and not the back, you can take advantage of this very effectively simple cover.

That said if you are more like an industrial strength ipad user and need to be able to throw it around at a hurried pace, not taking care of where and how you place your ipad on surfaces maybe the cover isn't for you... but you should be able to tell the design is not meant for you just from from simply looking at it, saving yourself being unhappy from buying the wrong product for your needs.

Good job Steve Jobs and Apple.

    poorly designed stand

    • Written by from philadelphia

The cover does not accomplish anything that it is advertised to do (well). After a few months of use, the stand feature has become very unstable. When I close the magnetic cover, I assume that the device will reopen with the lock screen, I open it again to find out that it has not even turned off! I do not recommend this cover to anyone, people looking to buy a case for their Ipad should find a case made by another company.

    Good case..bad price

    • Written by from LATROBE

I was amazed when I got this case in the mail and actually seen what I paid for...I was expecting something more. But I was also amazed when the case automatically snapped into place. It absolutely does what it's suppose to and I have had no problems with scuff marks that other people seem to have. It also supports the iPad perfectly when I'm watching a video or typing it's actually really sturdy, it took a little getting used to but you figure out how to fold it for maximum support. It would be an awesome case of it were about 15 or 20 dollars cheaper. I really wanna buy a more protective case but im not aware of one that would not obstruct the speakers that's why I went with the smart cover

    It is Perfect.

    • Written by from BERLIN

Don't bother reading the low stars like I did before I bought this. It is meant to COVER the iPAD. Not protect it. that is why there is back smart cover compatible covers. BUt this is a perfect stand, cover, and personality for the iPads. I love it because its not bulky but it is really useful. It's not really an accessory either. It's actually like "need" for the iPad. It really makes an iPad, an iPad and since it's made by Apple, it won't look like a third party product. I love this because it doest protect the screen from tables or clunks. I consider this product. Its really helpful.

    Poorly manufactured

    • Written by from Engadine

I purchased the smart cover for my ipad, less then 4 months ago and since then I have been significantly disappointed. I take my ipad to and from uni every day and through the day to day use, the parts have started to peel away, exposing the plastic panels in the centre. Like anything once it startes to peel of it doesn't stop. I continue to use it, only because it protects the front of my ipad. I paid $45 for it and wouldn't be complaining if i paid what it was worth, which is $10. I took pictures of it for futre reference, but if you are thinking about purchasing it. Think about how it might only last a few weeks until the edges start to peel. I' sorry that i have to make this complaint but felt that it was needed.

Great for ipad2 bad for ipad3

    • Written by from Sherbrooke

Got an iPad 3 and discovered that the magnets of the smart cover are not strong enough for the extra weight of the iPad 3. The cover is perfect for the iPad 2 where i've been using it for a year.

Dont pay for the smart cover-defective

    • Written by from anaheim

Wouldnt give this any stars if site would allow it.This cover is very misleading,it is not a "perfect fit"as it advertises in the description. The magnetic strip is very weak and flimsy. While using my camera function with the cover still on, folded over, the magnet broke free and I tried to grab the iPad and the cover slipped and my iPad hit the ground. Cost me 249.00 to replay the shattered front glass. So far no response from apple in regards to my complaint so use caution with this product.

This is not the best product

    • Written by from WASHINGTON

I have had the smart cover for two months and it is not only bad protection it also is falling a part on the edges. The magnit that holds it on to the side of the iPad opposite the volume controls has rubbed off the finish of the iPad. This is is deffenetly not the best product for a school or working envierment.

    Works as intended

    • Written by from La Canada Flintridge

The smart cover works fiine as what it intended to do on new iPad. I don't know there are negative reviews on its functionality. I am just wondering if back cover is interfering with it. I took a star off due to angle you get when fold it to have iPad stand or elevated is not really comfortable position in my use. Apple should do a little more research on optimal angle. Other than that, magnetic sleep function works well too.

Works great, what is wrong with you?

    • Written by from Moorpark

Negative reviews seem to balk at how the cover falls off before the owner drops it and cracks the screen. Treat the iPad like it's an electronic device and transport it carefully. If you want a minimalist cover that works great to protect your screen and hold the device in various positions, then this is perfect. I also like the way when one opens the cover the iPad wakes. People that are klutzes should spend $50 more and buy an Otterbox.

    Leather - red

    • Written by from Salisbury

Whilst I appreciate this is a really clever idea I have to say I am disappointed with mine. The first one arrived and was grubby and scratched and I went through the long phone call to have it returned (the queue was long but the lady was really helpful that I spoke to when I did get through). They sent a replacement over night and have arranged to collect the old one. The second one arrived and it has two damage marks in it - without me even getting it out of the box. I can't even be bothered to send it back. I don't think the leather will be very durable and I am sure it marks really easily. Can't comment on the polyurethane but I think I might have been better with the cheaper version - maybe it would be a bit more durable.

    Not so good...

    • Written by from Birmingham

while the idea of a case that attaches via magnets, folds to allow various stand options, protects the screen, and auto wakes/sleeps seems like a good idea...it's not...the cover provides no protection to the sides/back of the iPad...and don't every try to move or pick up the ipad from just the cover as it will unhinge and the iPad will go falling...not to mention that folding it to provide a stand option doesn't actually work out as well as intended...go find a better case on amazon
