    Its okay.

    • Written by from Greeley

The smart cover does what it says. It aligns perfect every time and makes a very handy stand whenever you need one. Keeps the screen clean as well however, the smart cover has damaged my iPad 2 on the side the magnet sticks to. It has left it scratched and ugly. If I had known it would do that, I would have bought another case or something that wouldn't damage the product.

    Sleep or wake up?

    • Written by from Ada

When I first got this cover it would put my iPad2 to sleep and when I lifted the cover it would wake up. This only lasted a couple of days. Now I manually have to do it. Very disappointed in the product for what I paid. :(

    Bad Case

    • Written by from Coraopolis

I got this case in pink and it gets so dirty so fast. It does not protect the back part at all which is what I see getting marked also. I would recommend getting a case that slides in and out like a pocket to protect it if you plan to carry it in a bag because it gets scratched easily. The case does NOT clean the screen as well as it claims to.

    Horrible for 3rd generation iPad

    • Written by from PORT ISABEL

I bought my iPad smart cover (product red) when I purchased my iPad 2, and it was a wonderful thing, I was completely in love with it, it worked amazing, but when I decided to upgrade to the 3rd generation iPad, it's been a nightmare the cover somehow does not stay on like it did with the iPad 2, any little movement it comes of, specially trying to move it when watching a movie, I have dropped my iPad due to this, I guess the magnets are not as strong as before or maybe it does not make contact as it did before, so I would not recommend this case for the new iPad, because you will have problems with it, as I did!

Skeptical at first, but totally satisfied in the end

    • Written by from Toronto

I was skeptical of how well this would work after reading so many negative reviews. I bought the DARK GREY Smart Cover because I noticed that the other colours start to look dirty after a few months of use. Four months later, I am totally happy with this product. When closed it also somehow manages to clean the screen of fingerprints somewhat. The only exception to that is where the hinges in the cover don't quite touch the screen. I've had zero problems and would highly recommend it to anyone that isn't careless and constantly dropping their gear and then blaming others for it.

Does exactly what it says BEAUTIFULLY!

    • Written by from Fontana

There are too many negative reviews annoyed that it does not protect the back, but it is obviously not designed to. It's like buying glasses and complaining they don't improve your hearing or buying a Prius but are shocked to find it can't tow your boat! Thankfully there are several inexpensive back covers that are designed to work together with the smart cover and do it amazingly well.
I also have a skin on the back which prevented the scratching issues some have mentioned where the magnets snap on, but even a small strip under the hinge will do. I have tried several cheaper knock-off versions and others that are integrated with back protection, but none of them perform nearly as well as Apples. They lift in the middle and don't lay flat, don't attach well, don't roll and support the iPad enough, or are very difficult to remove when needed.
The outside polyurethane cleans easily with household cleaner, a paper towel, and water. I use Awesome, but window cleaner or simple green work almost as well. I was glad to see the darker grey because the inside liner can get dirty after a long period of time. When rolled into a stand, the inside is what comes in contact with whatever surface it is laying on (the only flaw, and why I would have rated 4 stars, but I wanted to make up for some of the other questionable reviews) Apple should have used a different material on that section, but an adhesive cloth or sued strip would do the trick if you want it to stay clean longer. iPad 2 without it is just not as convenient, well thought, or "magical".

Smart Cover Does EXACTLY what it's supposed to do!

    • Written by from Port Chester

I may not agree with the price, but the functionality of the product is unbeatable. After all, it was designed along side the iPad2.

Althought it doesnt have protection for the back, On Amazon, you can find a protector for the back that actually works with the smart cover to provide 360 degree of coverage. I think i paid $2 for it on Amazon!!

I love this product! Innovative and evolutionary!

    Good, with a few caveats.

    • Written by from Lehi

It makes me crazy that so many reviews give one star for the cover not protecting the back. So, in case you can't tell from the description or pictures... THIS COVER IS MEANT TO PROTECT YOU SCREEN!

With that out of the way. The cover is quite stylish. You get to keep the original appeal of design while protecting the glass on your new toy. I have a folio cover that works great for protecting the front and back, but when I just want the minimal, this cover fits the bill nicely.

The sleep/wake features work great on iPad 2. I cannot vouch for the "new iPad". My folio does this as well, so I've grown accustomed to this. The magnets that hold the cover on do their job pretty well. Yes, it still pops off periodically when I don't intend it to. No, this has not caused me any trouble as I just pop it back on. It is infinitely faster when dealing with a cradle than something like a folio case.

Design is sharp. I can see where it might start cracking where it folds, but time will tell. Overall, it's a pretty good screen cover, though it does come with the "Apple Tax" that makes it overpriced for what it is. Still, if you want minimalism, this is the way to go.

    Nice Product!!!

    • Written by from Primghar

I purchased the smart cover when I got my iPad and was disappointed to find that I needed to purchase a back cover along with the smart cover. The smart cover is great, all though I think that Apple shoud make a hard-snap-cover for the back. The smart cover, I found, picks up alot of small dust particles and puts them on the iPad display area. The cover works well with the iPad and looks nice and is well made. I have found the dark grey polyurethane, shows scratches. I would recommend that if you do get the smart cover you should go with the leather model, even though it is more expensive, but worth it. Over all it is an average product.

Great magnetic hinges; easy to use

    • Written by from Rancho Palos Verdes

I've had this cover for nearly a year and love it. The magnetic hinges are fool proof and click into place cleanly. The cover is robust and the flip panels create a wide variety of stands and ways to hold onto the i-Pad. I would miss this cover now that I've gotten so used to it. I recommend this cover without reservation.

    Risky!

    • Written by from Bedford

This "cover" actually Increases the odds that you will drop and damaging your iPad. Not only does it leave the slippery back of your iPad exposed, the weak magnetic grip holding it on the front gives the false illusion of a solid grip for the front. It will easily slip off if you rely on it for this purpose and you will have destroyed your new iPad. I've just ordered a folio style cover to replace this cover. There are a number of them for sale on Amazon, but you need to read the reviews carefully to assure that they fit the new iPad properly. Some of the early attempts did not fit.

Terrible product that is not worth the price at all

Don't waste your money on this cover. It falls off too easily which is very frustrating. I wish I could get a refund so I can purchase a much better made cover.

    Still terrific after nine months

    • Written by from Gaylord

I purchased the green poly cover just before launch day for the iPad 2. I've used the cover on my iPad for the past nine months and it has worked perfectly. I use my iPad daily at my office and home, even taking it with me when I shop since I keep my shopping list on it. Not once has the cover slipped off. The poly cover cleans up easily, but I'm tired of the green color. Was delighted Apple has introduced new colors and am ordering a dark gray today.

    Smart cover

    • Written by from dearborn

First of all it's not a case it's a cover. It does what it's suppose to, protects the screen and looks good while doing. Is it worth $40.00 dollars? No,but if you buy a cheap imatation it does not last at all. I think it's an awesome cover!

    Perfection in design

    • Written by from Lewisville

The iPad 2 Smart Cover does everything it is advertised to do and it does it FLAWLESSLY. And contrary to what another user states on their review, this cover has never, ever put one single scratch on my iPad, so do not worry about that at all. In my experience, that claim is totally unfounded. And I pull off and put back on my smart cover often because I use the iPad charging dock. The cover goes on and comes off so pleasantly easy. It realigns perfectly and harmlessly every time.
I bought this cover 6 months ago, thinking I'd probably eventually "upgrade" to the leather smart cover when this one began to wear. 6 months later and my smart cover still looks and performs like new. And the polyurethane feels so good to the touch ... kind of like soft, brushed suede leather. The leather version sounds nice, but now I would never part with my polyurethane version (I have the light grey color which blends beautifully with the silver back metal of the iPad).

    It's a cover, not a handle!

    • Written by from Portland

If you are looking for a cover that doubles as a stand, this cover is excellent! If you are hoping for a full-body protective suit with a carrying handle, buy something else, but don't complain about this item! Who really thinks that they can carry around their iPad by this little cover attached by little magnets? You purchased an expensive tablet, treat it with care. Don't worry about the dust lines, they come off when you clean off all your typical finger smudges.

Only four stars however because when it's in the taller stand position, I find that the cover needs to be fuzzy side out or it won't stay in its triangular shape. I'd rather keep the fuzzy side enclosed to stay cleaner. also, four stars for the ridiculous price gouging from Apple for 75 cents of plastic.

    Great Cover

    • Written by from algonquin

I bought this one because it was cheaper and read bad reviews on the leather covers. The polyurethane is great no problems and i also had read reviews about how the magnet damages the side of the ipad, and that simply isn't true if you take the cover off the right way. all you have to do is pull the cover off in the opposite direction of the ipad, not up or down. It works great and keeps the screen clean, you'll love it.

    Great Product

    • Written by from Burlington

Personally, I think this is a great cover. If you have half a brain, you realize by the name this is a *cover*, not a *case*, which seems to be a reason for a lot of these poor ratings. If you want a case to fully protect your iPad, this is not what you're looking for. It's excellent for a quick glass protector, simple stand, and even a screen cleaner.

I'm rough on electronics, but this cover works great for my needs. When I store it I have the cover on, in my laptop bag, with the aluminum side against a soft wall (so not to scratch the iPad with other loose items).

I've never had any mechanical issue with the cover. It's stayed magnetized and haven't had any problem with the hinges. I only replaced it because I wanted the new dark gray over the blue which I purchased with the iPad 2 when it was first released.

I really like the cover. The magnetic feature allows you to easily line up the cover, it stays on well, folds up nice, protects the screen and puts the iPad to sleep. I would recommend the dark gray as it does not show stains and looks clean. I would highly recommend it.
