    Not a great value

    • Written by from Wylie

i bought this for my new IPad and gave my son a smart case. I have since bought a smart case for me as well. The smart cover magnet that connects to the iPad is not very strong. It is constantly disconnecting. It is very frustrating. It does a good job of putting the IPad to sleep, else, rather worthless.

    Red Polyurethane please!

    • Written by from Ogden

The only reason why I purchased the leather one, was because I wanted a red one! It's a great cover, however it scratches WAY too easily and it is not durable at all.

Why apple makes a red urethane smart cover for the mini and not for the regular iPad is ridiculous! I guess I'll have to look elsewhere.

    Dangerous

    • Written by from San Diego

The design is beautiful, the way it awakens your iPad just by sliding off is great, but do NOT be lulled into a false sense of security with this "cover".

I have had many near calls with this cover. Do not think that you can hold on to the cover alone when the iPad is open. There have been multiple times that the magnets spontaneously detach and the iPad hurtles terrifyingly towards the ground. Luckily I caught it almost all of those times, the one I didn't was on to carpeting. It's frustrating that the magnets are not strong enough to support the iPad's weight even when not hanging completely from them. This cover is mainly for looks and to protect the screen while closed in a bag. At that it excels. If you are looking to protect your iPad from falls or other accidents, look elsewhere.

    Not smart enough

    • Written by from Chicago

At first I was very excited about a cover that would put my iPad to sleep every time I closed it, but after using it for a couple of days I began to realize that the cover was more trouble than it was worth. For instance: almost every time I rolled up the cover to set it on the table, the magnets on the cover would detach from the iPad causing the iPad to fall down on the table or even to the floor. The pros of this cover do not out weigh its cons.

    dirty

The red cover looks sharp with the black iPad. However, it gets scratched and dirty in 24 hours. I'm returning for a black one. This is what all the Apple employees use in my local store.

    Not worth the money

When I saw the Red it looked stunning. Although as soon as you put it on the ipad, the colour doesn't look as nice. In fact it looks ugly. I would not recommend buying this.

    Magnet not strong enough

    • Written by from Toronto

The ingenious design of this cover - and it's a cover, NOT a case - makes it easy for someone to grab the cover to hold the iPad. That's bad, because the magnet is not strong enough to hold the iPad.

Apple should test these with 11 year olds who will figure out how NOT to use a product.

Prefer the original iPad's case that had a cover attached.

    Not True to Colour

    • Written by from Oak Harbor

Leather is nice and all, but this red has more orange to it than the deeper red that is advertised. My favourite colour is red but only if it's not an icky cherry red, rocket red, or any ghastly red with orange undertone from the 60s and 70s....almost like this cover. Also, if anything happens to spill on the case...just like leather, it'll stain and your iPad will look like it's been through some rough patches. I do not recommend this product if you have kids.

I request a deep, chocolately-red brown instead of the blah selection of leathers they have. And I request a deeper red, like dark blood, or something with a more blue undertone than that faded, blah red. If you're going to do gray 'colours', I suggest a darker gray, like gun metal or a French gray. Khaki is just horrifying.

Also....people love white. How come you don't have a plain white cover? White is allllll over Apple products, so why even bother with a light gray cover? Just make it white!!!

    Ok

    • Written by from irmo

It is an ok cover but the back is left wide open and the stand isn't technically going to keep it from falling over it is actually easier for it to fal over and the magnet seems like it is getting weaker and weaker after every use I should of got an outer box instead it seems more protective then the cover

Wish I hadn't gotten the leather...

    • Written by from Saratoga

Looked great at first, but it is stained and dirty now, just from regular use. Moisture and oils from hands have made it look nasty and dark, and the edges are starting to curl up. Not worth $69 at all. Should have gotten the polyurethane.

OK as stand and cover for storage...

    • Written by from Vernon

...awful to manipulate. Trying to hold the iPad with the cover attached (flipped completely behind or rolled to form a "handle") is awkward at best. As others have said, it slips off easily. I use it as a stand and as a screen protector for when the iPad is not in use, but as soon as I pick up the iPad, I just take the cover off and set it aside (until or unless I need it as a stand or put the iPad away). I could kick myself for spending $69 on this thing. I'm shopping now for something different.

Impossible to keep clean, scratches and stains extremely easily - stick with the cheaper non-leather cases

    Disappointed

    • Written by from Creedmoor

For as much as the leather cover costs, it is a disappointment. I got the red one which is coming apart after 7 months and it dyed my screen protector so that now I have to replace the very expensive screen protector as well as the cover. Not worth the cost in my opinion.

    Already showing wear and tear

    • Written by from Oakland

I bought this when the iPad first came out. It's already showing some wear and tear around the hinge where the cover is pulling off. And if you have an added screen protector sheet on your screen the color (on the red one) gradually stains it

iPad red leather smart cover wears out

    • Written by from Denver

The smart cover functioned well for about 6 months and then began to fall apart at the seams. Splitting on the top and bottom and the hinged edge. I do use my iPad 2 every day, but primarily at home. Not only did it split at the seams, but the leather stained (despite using a leather protecting spray). The hinge side, where I tended to pick it up from, got dark compared to the rest of the cover. After about 9 months I have a cover that looks several years old. I am not impressed with this product.

    Poor case

    • Written by from Worcestershire

I used to have this for my iPad and loved it, for about a month before i realised that it didn't hold properly - like so many others have noticed the magnets are far too weak to hold, and that just means it will come off. Then one day the cover got stuck to some metal trays and as i lifted the tray the spine magnet broke free and dropped my iPad 3 foot to a stone floor - bye bye £600 iPad 2, hello £270 repair fee. Along side that the magnets in mine, on the spine, started to break through and caused huge scratches down the side of my iPad. All in all a fairly useless case, and i would advise looking elsewhere for protecting your investment. Practicality wise however it is excellent, just not worth the hassle of a broken iPad.

BE CAREFUL, Dark colors bleed into screen protectors

    • Written by from Henderson

Thought I would pay more for the beautiful leather, but the dye colors bleed into the screen protectors. Other than that, they are okay.
