After 6 months of use, I noticed rust spots and scratches on the back of the iPad right where the magnets have been holding. Now I feel like i can't take it off or else it looks really ugly in the back. Horrible since I paid 700 for the ipad2 with 3G. Very disappointed that Apple would out this product out there. Don't spend the money and ruin the look of your iPad.

Red color rubbed off onto my iPad. Fortunately I had the invisible shield on my entire iPad so all I had to do was remove the old shield and install a new one but I had to pay to have it installed. Can't believe Apple would sell this cover. Very disappointed.

I bought the red leather smart cover, and it is awesome. The smart cover does what it says, perfectly. Fits the new Ipad (3th generation) and the material have great quality. The magnetic feature allows you to easily line up the cover in the side of iPad. It stays on well, folds up without problem, protects the screen and puts the iPad to sleep. I recommend this smart cover.

I am giving this product two starts because it comes off too easily...the magnet that hold the cover to the ipad should be stronger. I'll go so far to say that my ipad broke as a consequence of using this cover. I was using my ipad with the cover folded back but it pulled off and it caused me to drop the ipad. A 12" drop to a granite countertop = cracked screen. Do yourself a favor and get a real cover for your ipad (marware or similar). Also, on the non-leather versions of this, the cover gets dirty quickly and starts to look shabby.

I love this cover. it allows everybody to be lazy as just closing it will lock your Ipad. there Is a setting on your ipad to turn the lock on or off. when I am playing a game i use the prop feture on the case and turn my cover into a stand. there is also products you can buy like back cases that work along side the smart cover and match the exact colour so you dont have 2 shades of blue for example GREAT PRODUCT!!!

    Case Falling Apart

After a few months of use, the case started falling apart in its seams. It appears cheeply glued together. If you can, spend your $70 on another useless thing because sooner or later it will fall apart.

    Awful- recall them all!

The case is awful, and Ive only had it for a month or so. The magnetic stick on looses its stick on after a couple weeks. The sides of the case shreds easily. And it does not protect you iPad at all (looks only)! If you try to make it sit up it will fall and crash your iPad to the ground. This case made it so it cracked the shell of my iPad very badly and would cost a lot to repare it. Happily I bought a totally different case on eBay. Don't settle for this dumb cover. REFUND!

I bought an ipad2 less than a month ago then i bought a black smart cover leather one 2 weeks ago and not even few days later my screen started going crazy when i had the cover on. I was puzzled then found out that the magnetic on cover doesnt go well with the metal on back of ipad. Everytime i put cover back on screen goes crazy with weird color so now its broken...now im out of 500 with no warranty. Yes hard earned money goes waste cus of defected product and apple never warned me about that. Thanks alot...

I have had my IPad for over five months and use it on a daily basis. The leather cover handles normal wear well and does it's job in protecting the screen when not in use, in my case when transporting it between my different workspaces. The stand works well when you want the slight incline or more vertical posture however if you like the portrait view verses the landscape view I would recommend apple's other charging stand product that allows the portrait view which is particularly good when using the wireless keyboard for faster typing. I have had no problems with the cover slipping off or the magnetic hinges detaching. This may occur however if you treat this cover as a protective case which is not the intent of this product. I recommend carrying a thin screen cleaning cloth similar to those used on eye glass lenses as dust accumulates under the ridges of the cover. I store it between the cover and the iPad screen for easy access. This will keep you from wiping the screen in a rush with something more abrasive like your shirt sleeve.

Innovative, useful and convenient, no dirt problem here!

I like my smart cover. I was a little unsure initially; I have another case as well to prove that... but I found myself liking the minimalism of the smart cover. I did add a slim polycarbonate case for the back, primarily for grip, but it actually has a metal plate so that the smart cover will stay folded back. My other, larger case, I use when I'm taking my iPad somewhere and need some extra padding. I don’t always use it unless I know the iPad is going to get knocked around a bit. The iPad with smart cover just gets slipped in there for extra protection.

    The good:

-Multipurpose, works as a cover, stand, non-slip backing (when folded back) and actually DOES clean your screen! (I was skeptical)

    -Nice appearance, minimalistic design.

-High-quality materials. The leather is excellent quality and soft.

-Stays clean. I did not have the problem with grime that others seem to have, but I also don't take mine into dirty places without extra protection. It only covers the front; you shouldn't do that anyway.

    The not-as-good:

-The magnet holding the smart cover to the edge is not very strong. You certainly shouldn’t pick up the iPad by just the smart cover. However I had it come off my first iPad several times just as I was folding it back. Interestingly enough, my iPad has been replaced with a new 4th generation model, and this problem is nowhere near as bad. The new magnet strength is about 3/4 of the way between where it was, and where I’d like it to be to be “perfect.” In my opinion, for something like this, I should have to expend some effort to get it off, so that it doesn’t fall off accidentally.

    Red iPad cover

The automatiic on-off is useful when the iPad face is covered. Fits perfectly, and when folded acts as a support. A bit expensive, but I still would buy it again! Cool looking!

    Useless waste of money

    • Written by from Oakland

28 of 39 people found this useful

For the price it's a complete waste of money. The cover leaves ugly ridges on the screen and routinely falls off during normal everyday use, making it very frustrating to use. The supposed features for holding the device up also fail since the magnetic strip isnt strong enough to keep the cover attached. Design FAIL.

I bought this when I bought my iPad 2. I love the leather. It feels great and the color is perfect. I can remove it very easily. It's very thin and you hardly notice it's even there.

First of all the love the color of the red that is presented on the cover. It looks very nice with the White iPad. I know it doesn't protect the back, but just buy a back cover that you snap on and your golden. Overall good front case, great color, and love the leather feel.

I love my cover. It has saved my iPad twice already . It could stand up a little better.
    But well worth the investment.
