    Not a good value

The Red leather is not a dark red as in the picture. The leather is extremely thin and does not clean well. It scratches easy and I am very careful with my iPad. In the future,
I will purchase something that covers the back of my iPad. This product does not. Overall, I would not pay $69 again for this product. It is not worth the money.

    Careful with scratches

I really loved my leather cover for the first months - great color, simple, well thought of objet, does what it should do. Yet, I've been annoyed by one thing that slowly became a problem : the suede surface on the inside, that becomes the outside once you open it, roll it up and use it as a stand. Things - dust, crumbs, whatever is on the surface you put it on - tend to cling to it, because it's suede, "hairy". It's difficult to remove little things that get stuck in there. Sure, you can clean the table/desk systematically before putting it on. But I use my ipad a lot, in numerous places. Things tend to get stuck in the suede, no matter how careful you are. And then what happens? They scratch the screen. Very fine surface scratches, sure, nothing overly dramatic, but it's really disapointing. I decided to get an Invisible Shield to protect it - which is a bit absurd : having to protect it from its protective cover... I recommend not taking the leather. The smooth surface of the other cases should avoid that problem.

Be careful with this cover easy to drop iPad

A beautiful looking cover and the send to sleep function and stand function works perfectly.
However when using the iPad as a camera the temptation is to hold case in your left hand and use your right thumb to fire the camera. At some stage you might just let go with your right hand causing all the weight to be held by the folded cover which is held on magnetically. This results in the iPad falling to the ground.
This happened to me but amazingly the ipad fell on a corner and then rolled onto its back causing no damage apart from some scraches. Had it landed on its face I might not have been so lucky. BE CAREFUL.

The red color looked phenomenal when I bought on the first day the Ipad 2 was released. A year later, as I eagerly await the shipment of my "new" iPad, I am purchasing a new poly smart cover.

The red color looks amazing at first and does fade. Scratches and scuffs become apparent and I store my iPad with smart cover in a sleeve when not in use. Also, the natural oils from your fingers make the edges of the cover turn darker which is nice but since its unlikely to get darker evenly, the cover starts to look old. Construction of the cover is great, and it does exactly what it says. Used every day for a year, it has never fallen apart, and the magnets work perfectly. The cover stays put nicely but I did purchase the additional Incipio back cover to link the smart cover into, which I highly recommend. I also had my iPad wrapped with a Zagg-like plastic film on the back and front professionally done (also highly recommended). Smart cover works great with this but the red leather did stain lines onto the plastic over time so light red lines would appear where the folds of the smart cover were. My friend also had the same issue with the black leather one, which is why I am buying a poly one for my new iPad.

Overall, if $70 is not a big deal, the leather smart cover is nice. I would not recommend it if you are also getting the plastic wrap on your iPad as it will mostly likely stain the wrap within a few months. It does not stain the actual glass on the iPad.

This product is very cool, and light weighted but once when it comes to the back of the Ipad 2 it isnt protected enough. If you move it on any surface it gets grey or black marks on the side that never comes off. It's nice but not worth over $50.00.

It may be something I don't understand, This cover is a waste, I bought a leather but since this thing is not functional, that was a waste... The magnetic connection is flawed, people will end up damaging the product with that. Product purchase is cumbersome, another password, of course that's a marketing scheme. Navigating generally is convoluted, much to time consuming.. getting to where you want to be. I guess if you like toys and a "couch potato'" it has it's attraction... I'm a Pilot and and am quite familiar with the "tech world" also a Physicist.... It's not the original product, my office is full of Apple equipment, but the way you are handling this is not good...George

    Mixed Review

I like the color and it does prevent scratches on the screen, but it can give you a false sense of security because the magnet will not hold, you should never pick it up by the cover or it's a goner. Also, the prop up aspect is not good, it tends to slump over when you use that feature. If you want to pay $39.95 for a screen scratch saver, it's worth it.

My Red leather smart cover is now starting to break at the edges, and it is sooo dirty that it is almost embarrassing to take out my beautiful iPad in public.
I don't want to buy another one... It was expensive...
I am a big, big fan of Apple products, I have been using only Apple computers since my dad got us an Apple-IIe.
I have 'converted' tons of people (including my die-hard PC husband) to Mac....

    Simply disappointed

    A Mixed Bag

The smart cover is a mixed bag as far as I can tell. Here's my Pro's and Con's

    Pro's:
The iPad instant-on feature when you open the cover.
The screen protection is good while not being used
Holds the iPad in a okay position for typing and watching video

    Con's:
Magnets give a false sense of security - never pick the iPad up by the cover - it will fall
A cover is needed to protect the back of the iPad - or you will get scratches
The Smart Cover offers little if any protection when you drop your iPad - and you will
Buying both a Smart Cover and a back cover ends up being expensive

My bottom-line is I do use the Smart Cover but it should be part of a more complete cover system. I am also always aware that the Smart Cover can come off at any moment.

    Nice concept, but weak magnets

I loved my Smart Cover, until one day I was unfolding it to close it up again and the hinge magnet slipped, letting my iPad fall off my lap onto the ground. My iPad suffered a small dented corner in the aluminum backing and worse, a cracked screen. Argh! I had come to trust my Smart Cover too much, and it lulled me into a false sense of security. These accidents could have been prevented if 1) the Smart Cover had a more secure attachment to the iPad, and 2) if the iPad was more durable and didn't have a screen going right to the edge. I'll miss the convenience of the Smart Cover, but I'm going to find something more trustworthy and durable.

    Smart cover

This product looks and feels great and initially seems beautifully designed. However, upon travelling with it some troubles pop up. Firstly, the magnet is strong enough to erase electronic hotel keys kept in the same bag. I went through about 6 keys in a week before I figured out the culprit. Within the same bag, I wasn’t able to keep the key far enough from the case to cure the problem. Also, when travelling and carrying the iPad and case within a carry-on bag, the cover does not always stay in place unless it is restricted. In other words, you can’t just put it loose into another bag and expect the cover to stay in place. When the cover comes loose, then the battery is used, apps can accidentally be activated, and the screen is subject to scratching. Not perfect.

I like how the smart cover itself works! Awesome! However, like others have said the leather cover is very hard to keep clean. Additionally, it gets scratched easily. It can't take being in my purse, gym bag, etc. I've had mine since March 11 when the iPad 2 was released and it doesn't look so great. I paid more for this then the other covers because it was a (Product) Red, the color was unique and i thought it would be more durable because it is leather. I was wrong about the durability. I actually wasn't too upset about the scratches until I visited the website and was reminded of how expensive this thing was. I'd buy another smart cover but probably the less expensive one since I know what to expect.
