    Good product

I've had my red smart cover for a week now. It is pretty stylish, but like on review said it is hard to keep clean. Other than that, it works great.

    works as expected

    • Written by from Washougal

After scanning reviews, I'm struck with those who expected this to work like a cushioned case -- it is most definitely *not* that (but I didn't expect it to be). This is a very elegant, easily attached/detached cover for the screen; no more, no less. If it's in my wife's purse, it will keep the screen from getting banged up, but I have no expectation that it will protect the iPad if I drop it... if I wanted that, I'd buy a bulky case that encloses the iPad.

So before you get this, ask yourself if you want serious padded protection or just a screen cover that doubles as a bit of a stand. If you want the latter, this'll do the trick.

Product Is Great! Yes it may have some problems...

    • Written by from Medford

This Product is great! Granted, it does not offer any "real" protection. It is more for style and design.
If you expect this to protect your iPad, then don't buy it.
If you expect this to be used as a handle, then don't buy it!
if you expect this not to get dirty after regular use, THEN DO NOT BUY IT

Now some people say that this is not good for a stand. Perhaps you are not using it right, try fIf you purchase the leather Smart Cover, than expect to be cleaning it as it does get dirty easier!olding it the other way!
The magnet may slip off sometimes because it is not meant to be that strong.
If you purchase the leather cover, expect to be cleaning it weekly.

    Works as described, looks great

    • Written by from Redmond

I bought this with my iPad 3. It attached precisely as it should. The leather is lovely, and, as stated on the packaging and in the store, the dye can rub off with use. Not that it goes to a natural leather color, but just that some of the red can transfer off of the cover.

I'd readily buy another if I had an additional iPad to put it on.

    iPad smartcover

    • Written by from Vancouver

I AM SHOCKED at the stupidity of some people who think that the smart cover for the iPad 2 / new can be used like a handle! Come on people.... its held on with a think magnet. Its not meant to be a handle. I have tried other covers / cases, and they just don't work as well as the Apple smart cover. For screen protection, and the auto on off feature, this smart cover is the best bet. To keep my iPad a slim and trim as it was DESIGNED to be, I use the Zagg invisishield on the back, and a Splash Masque screen protector (came as a 3 pack). I have 3 iPads set up this way, and no complaints from any of them. The magnets on the cover get stronger the more you use them.... (in case some people find them a bit weak to start). Just remember, the cover is not a handle, or they would have called it a Smart Handle....

Here is what I don't get..... people who will buy the iPad TABLET, then buy some big honking case with a keyboard, and try to turn it into a NOTEBOOK! Come on! Apple has the Macbook AIR for that....

    iPad red cover - solutions

    • Written by from Brasov

I have the red leather cover for my iPad for over 8 months now and yes it will get dirty as any cover will, however it can be cleaned with any leather cleaner, just like how you would clean your bags ladies. Regarding the screen, many you have not noticed but the cover actualy remouves most fingerptints but you can always use a touch screen pen and that will leave no prints. And one last thing the cover will unclip if you hold the iPad by it as it does attach using a magnet therefore you might want to buy one of the big bulky covers if you want to hold it like that. The bottom-line is that this product is great for what it has been created, it looks awesome, it holds your iPad up, protects your screen to a certain degree and at the same time is slim and slick. Enjoy it!!!

    Beautifully performs as advertised

    • Written by from Dallas

    Pros
    - The magnet is still strong.
    - The case brings iPad in/out of sleep every time it's opened and closed.
    - The leather is still in pretty good condition.
    - Provides great protection for a case of this type.

    Cons
    - Grooves in cover allow air and oil to form lines on iPad screen.

I've had this case for roughly 6 months. I've tried 7 different cases since I purchased the iPad 2 and this is the best case I encountered of it's kind. Many of the reviews for this case are complaints about what should be expected when taking into consideration what the case is made of and how it's designed. With that said:

    - The case has never separated from the case unless I was testing how strong the magnetic connnection was (and that takes a fair amount of effort).
    - I've yet to hear of ANY leather product (for $70 or less) that doesn't take on scratches.
    - It's a cover and shouldn't be expected to provide as much protection as a full-body case.

    iPad cover

    • Written by from New York

I have had the red leather cover on my iPad 2 for a year. Great design in that it keeps it trim and slides into my briefcase no matter what else I have stuffed in there. Yes, the leather gets a bit worn from the oil on your hands, but it merely looks broken in rather than dirty or worn out. Only one reason that this product does not get five stars: the magnetic strip is not strong enough and comes off far too easily. Make the magnetic strip stronger and it would be perfect. Still the best such product on the market if you wish to keep the slim profile of the machine.

    Great product!

    • Written by from Graham

I gave this 4 stars because ive spilled cranberry juice and ginger ale on my smart cover, dropped it so many times, abused it in my backpack and at work where there is a lot of dirt and my hands get really dirty and through all that abuse it still does what its supposed to. It does show some wear but it hasnt fallen apart to the point where i cant use it. It protects my screen and im happy with my purchase and would recomend this product!

    A-O.K.

The smart cover works great, I only wish that it would cover the back too. I like to not scratch up my iPad and with the back right out in the open it gets scratched soooo easily. Also if you stand the iPad up where it is more unstable...when I play fruit ninja or some other game like that it falls over and hits real hard because it is still somewhat heavy.

Not sure what other people are doing...

    • Written by from Gatineau

I've had the case for a few days now and have had no issues whatsoever in all positions. The magnet is quite strong and the design is simple yet functional. I would recommend this product.

FYI, I have the leather case. The look and feel is superior and I felt it was worth the extra $.

JuSt bought this and it works great. The cover is minimal so doesn't add extra weight and volume to the iPad like some other cases.

Love the reviews that complain about lack of protection if dropped. Or maybe don't drop an iPad.

Performs as it is described to

I have had my IPad for over five months and use it on a daily basis. The leather cover handles normal wear well and does it's job in protecting the screen when not in use, in my case when transporting it between my different workspaces. The stand works well when you want the slight incline or more vertical posture however if you like the portrait view verses the landscape view I would recommend apple's other charging stand product that allows the portrait view which is particularly good when using the wireless keyboard for faster typing. I have had no problems with the cover slipping off or the magnetic hinges detaching. This may occur however if you treat this cover as a protective case which is not the intent of this product. I recommend carrying a thin screen cleaning cloth similar to those used on eye glass lenses as dust accumulates under the ridges of the cover. I store it between the cover and the iPad screen for easy access. This will keep you from wiping the screen in a rush with something more abrasive like your shirt sleeve.

Innovative, useful and convenient, no dirt problem here!

    • Written by from Claremont

I like my smart cover. I was a little unsure initially; I have another case as well to prove that... but I found myself liking the minimalism of the smart cover. I did add a slim polycarbonate case for the back, primarily for grip, but it actually has a metal plate so that the smart cover will stay folded back. My other, larger case, I use when I'm taking my iPad somewhere and need some extra padding. I don’t always use it unless I know the iPad is going to get knocked around a bit. The iPad with smart cover just gets slipped in there for extra protection.

    The good:

-Multipurpose, works as a cover, stand, non-slip backing (when folded back) and actually DOES clean your screen! (I was skeptical)

    -Nice appearance, minimalistic design.

-High-quality materials. The leather is excellent quality and soft.

-Stays clean. I did not have the problem with grime that others seem to have, but I also don't take mine into dirty places without extra protection. It only covers the front; you shouldn't do that anyway.

    The not-as-good:

-The magnet holding the smart cover to the edge is not very strong. You certainly shouldn’t pick up the iPad by just the smart cover. However I had it come off my first iPad several times just as I was folding it back. Interestingly enough, my iPad has been replaced with a new 4th generation model, and this problem is nowhere near as bad. The new magnet strength is about 3/4 of the way between where it was, and where I’d like it to be to be “perfect.” In my opinion, for something like this, I should have to expend some effort to get it off, so that it doesn’t fall off accidentally.

    Red iPad cover

The automatiic on-off is useful when the iPad face is covered. Fits perfectly, and when folded acts as a support. A bit expensive, but I still would buy it again! Cool looking!

    DIRTY!

    • Written by from rochester

well, i got the smart cover and it works good and everything but its SO hard to clean! especially the back side! i don't get how you to wash it!! also, when i click it on my ipad my ipad turns on an off and on and off. Although it is very useful to stand your ipad up to time or stand it up to do face time!! But all together i think its a pretty good case!

Good so far, doesn't really cut it as a 'FaceTime stand'

    • Written by from San Francisco

I'm not sure about the durability of this cover yet because it hasn't been too long. However, I don't throw my iPad into a bag loose with other stuff (it's usually in an incase backpack if it's out of the house) so I assume it will stay in pretty good condition.

I like the red color - I think it's a nice contrast with a white iPad.

As I said in the title of my review, I don't really trust the smart cover to hold the iPad up vertically for FaceTime or similar, however it does a good job protecting the screen and propping up the iPad for typing longer e-mails, etc.
