Got it to WORK, mostly... Mirroring Yeah!...so far...

    • Written by from Vero Beach

Okay, I know that there are many of us that have been having issues with our Apple 30-pin Digital AV Adapter since the update for the iso 8.0 +... But after reading most of the reviews and trying again and again with my 3rd party 30-pin Digital AV Adapter on both of my TVs without any luck I decide to go to the Apple Store and asked the manager if I could try the "Apple 30-pin Digital AV Adapter" on their TV to see if we could get it to work there. Otherwise I wasn't going to purchase it if it didn't work. Not until Apple fixed the problem. I also brought my adapter too. The Manager there was great! He saw that it wouldn't work with my third party adapter using my iPad 3. Then we tried the "Apple" adapter and it STILL WOULD NOT WORK! BUT, after going to settings and tapping on AIRPLANE MODE off to on then on to off, THERE IT WAS! the iPad 3 was mirrored onto the TV! : ) Then we unplugged it and tried the third party adapter and that adapter did the same thing and it still wouldn't work. (it use to before the update to 8.0)... So then we replugged the Apple adapter and again, NO MIRRORING! He tried plugging and unplugging the adapter from the HDMI cable tapping on the AIRPLANE MODE, no luck no picture. By this point the manager agreed with me that there is something very wrong here. He was kind enough to give me the Apple 30-pin Digital AV Adapter for free and told me to try it at home to see if I can get it to work. Plus the telephone # to report the problem so that Apple can get serious and do something about this issue. That number is 1-800-APL-CARE. I got home and plugged it in and there it was on my TV! : ) Working, so far! I encourage all of you who is having a similar issue and is using an Apple 30-pin Digital AV Adapter to mirror to your TV to first try the Airplane Mode trick, if you still have issues call this number. Good luck to you all!

    • Written by from SAN JOSE

I am in the same boat as everyone else. Has anyone found a fix for the 30 pin to vga cable issue? We are all in need of that desperately. I also used my iPad in the classroom and now I am without the tool. Apple please help us or someone please help if you know and upgrade or other fix so our simple cables will work again.

Make sure to have the most recent version of iOS!!!

    • Written by from Tempe

After much frustration, we figured out why this product didn't initially function at all. You must have the latest version of iOS regardless of the device that it is compatible with.

When plugged it to compatible devices (iPod Touch 4th Gen and iPhone 4S) an error message popped up saying "This accessory is not compatible with this device". We scheduled a Genius Bar appointment and even they were stumped for a bit but determined it must be the software. My iPod was apparently still running iOS 4.2. Apparently this adapter was not created until after iOS 6 (I believe that was the version they said) so it only works with 6 and above (but don't quote me on that part). Just get the latest software and it will function.

Posting this review so it gets seen by other frustrated users. Apple really needs to put this disclaimer on the box. How simple would it be to write "Compatible with iPod Touch 4th Gen, iPhone 4s, and iPad. Must be running iOS 6 or higher"? 4 stars because the product works but had MUCH frustration trying to get it to work.

Apple 30-pin Digital AV Adapter No Longer Works With Latest Software (iOS8)

    • Written by from Toronto

I originally purchased my Apple 30-pin Digital AV Adapter to mirror whatever’s on my iPad 2 or iPhone 4S screen to my TV screen and for a year or two , it worked well! So I would have originally rated this product as a 4 out of 5 stars. But since I updated my operating system to iOS8 (on both my iPad and iPhone), my adapter no longer works properly.

Currently, for a split second after connection, my iPad will mirror the image on its screen to the television but then quickly cut the image to display the following message: "This accessory is not supported by this iPad." This unfortunately was never the case before upgrading the operating system.

On my iPhone (iOS Version 8.1.2), it too will mirror the image on its screen to the television temporarily but then cut the image to display the following message: "This accessory is not supported by this iPhone."

Why I know that this is an issue with the latest software is because when I use my wife's iPhone 4S, a phone in which we have NOT updated the operating system (it is still running iOS 7 (7.0.4), it continues to work perfectly with the digital AV Adapter. Thus, the adapter is not faulty.

So I'm hoping that this post informs others and tells the Apple engineers the information they need to fix this issue as it seems the new operating system software no longer has compatibility with this Apple adapter.

Apple, from the other posts, it seems like this is a fairly common issue as others have mentioned the same thing so please fix this issue promptly since I not only use this technology for my personal use but also my teaching practice.

In closing, after looking at the Apple Store - Shop Accessories - Compatibility. Your Apple website still proclaims that the aforementioned Apple Digital AV Adapter connects "to your iPad, iPhone 4, iPhone 4S, ... via the 30-pin dock connector." This is inaccurate information! As you look further in the Ratings and Reviews section for this same product, many Apple users seem to be encountering similar difficulties with their adapters. Apple, you need to continue to support your products or fear a lack of customer loyalty in the future.

    Works well with iOS 8!

    • Written by from SAINT LOUIS

After seeing all the negative reviews, I decided to test mine again.

I've used it with an iPhone 4S and iPad 2. And yes, even with iOS 8.1.2 it works just fine.

Clear, digital picture and no lag. This is a great option for when an Apple TV isn't available.

    Works brilliantly!!

    • Written by from Upper Darby

I have a iPad 3rd gen with the latest iOS (8.1.2) and I got it at the Apple Store yesterday. I was nervous after all of the negative reviews expressing problems with this and the new iOS. I asked the Apple Store rep if I can test it in store before buying it and they told me no, but that if I bought it I can test it immediately and return it immediately if it did not work.

The rep removed the hdmi that was plugged into an Apple TV and into the adaptor and woohoo it worked! I went home and tried it and it worked there too. I don't know why some people are experiencing issues and I'm not but if you are considering buying one give it a try and maybe you'll have success!

One con is that it doesn't fill the screens edges. But I am not using it for videos so it doesn't matter.

    Doesn't work with my iPad 3 ...

    • Written by from Wyckoff

The adapter arrived today. It was was easy to hook up, of course, but there's no video. Decided to browse the Apple forums for a possible solution and have just discovered after the fact that the new OS software renders this adapter useless ... as nearly everyone here has posted.

Fortunately, my iPhone 5s hooks up to the HDMI input on my tv just fine.

It sure would be helpful if not a mandatory goodwill move that Apple clearly post information on the item listing that this adapter works only up to OS whatever.

    Don't buy it!!!

    • Written by from Tacoma

I bought one a couple months ago and it worked great when I was running iOS7. Then I updated ti iOS8 and it is not supported!!! Now I am out $45!!!! There are huge forums of people complaining about the same issue. Why won't Apple fix it? You can't even talk to someone in support without having to pay $29! Is this just a ploy to get consumers to upgrade to a new iPad? I wish I never updated to iOS8. Now my iPad is slower and my HDMI adapter doesn't work anymore! Of course now I can't downgrade back to iOS7 anymore. Apple has terrible customer service! FIX THE PROBLEM APPLE!!!!!!

    Major issue.

    • Written by from Lexingt

I used my cable with my 4s as a teaching tool. Now, with iOS 8 it is no longer is supported. This is a major problem for me. I am not happy with Apple right now. I would have never upgraded to iOS 8, but my phone kept loosing my contacts and became less functional with each app upgrade and forced me to leave iOS 7. Now my apple product is not as valuable to me, I might as well be using an android.

Used to work great, now nothing at all

    • Written by from Hollister

I used to be able to use all my devices with this adapter, iPod, iPhone 4s, and 1st generation iPad. Now not one of them will work with this adapter. I know that I have older devices but they should still work like they did when I got it. I invested too much money in this to have it stop working after an iOS update and now nearly a month has gone by with no fix. I am currently looking to upgrade a couple of phones and was looking toward a 6 or 6 plus but now I am concidering other options due to the lack of support. Apple should at the very least, stop selling this adapter in stores and on the website if they are not going to support it.
