AV adapter cable too short and stiff-keeps disconnecting

    • Written by from miami

nice idea BUT cable is too short and stiff and keeps disconnecting. even the vga connector has a longer more flexible cable. maybe you could make an extender to connect between the av connector and the ipad. by the way, bad placement of the power slot on bottom of ipad, not conducive to practical use. cannot comfortably hold/use ipad when relaxing. also possible fix for that is to make a power cable with wire coming out left or right side of the connection so we have flat surface of connector on bottom of ipad to rest it on. that would definitely reduce the number of cables that break or fray at that point.

Constant "Accessory Not Supported" errors. Frustrating.

    • Written by from New Bern

At times this adapter actually works, but those times are rare. More often, the second I plug the adapter into my iPhone 4 or IPad 3, I get a message saying that the accessory is not up ported.

Why can't Apple make their own hardware compatible? Don't waste your money on this thing.

DAV is Not Ready for Prime Time

    • Written by from Doylestown

My out of the box experience was poor. I tried the Digital AV Adapter on two different displays: Asus Monitor & Sony Bravia TV using an iPad3. The results were similar.

The display is not truly mirrored. The display is application specific and controlled by the application. The display and can be significantly different than the iPad display. I could not find anyway of controlling the output "mirror" with the iPad-3.

All issues I encountered appeared to be software issues.

HBO GO, MAX GO & SHO Anytime displays a screen on the HDMI display that says that they are sorry but the applications does not currently support HDMI display.

Netflix works the best but while a movie is playing the iPad3 shows a red "splash" screen while the movie plays on the HDMI display...not a true mirror.

Epix crashed the HDMI display. I was able to hear audio through the TV & monitor but no video with any application or main iPad3. Power cycling the iPad3 resolved the issue.

    this is bad

    • Written by from roberval

I hate it, it doesn't work. Go to the store and buy a wire to connect your computer to the tv. It's way more worth it. I hate apple. With everything.

Great idea but poor product with bad disign

    • Written by from San Gabriel

It is such a great idea that you could import all the images such as photos, movies, games from your ipad, iphone 4 to the much bigger screen (HDTV, or Vega TV). But the product itself is just poorly designed with very inferior quality. The connector with extremely short cable makes it very easy to fall off , and the the connector appear could not fit into the devices(ipad or iphone4). I have been trying several times unsuccessful. Conclusion, this is certainly defective design with very poor quality, Apple could easily makes it a better experience by imprving its design and quality. I am quite surprise this product could receive such high rating. But I have to admit that the concept of this product is super.

I also bought this adapter to play games from my I pad to the television ....nobody at best buy told me that I would also have to buy a long hdmi cable so when I hooked it up I was a foot away from the television.

does not work most of the time

    • Written by from Usquert

Upon connection to my iPad (3rd gen) nine out of ten times it says: This Accessory is Not Supported. Even so it should be compatible according to Apple. Similar for my iPhone 4S, although I did manage to play a video on my TV with it (one time).

Worse Apple product I have bought

    • Written by from Monash

Extremely poor connection, fails to work most of the time. Insufficiently secure in the 30 plug pin to maintain the connection. My old analogue connector, which works flawlessly, has been taken out of the cupboard and this disappointment put there in it's place. There are many more compliants along these lines so I am taking it that Apple wants to steer us in the direction of streaming as no enegy has gone into rectifying this issue. I bought it because I thought it must have. Wrong. This item is a major disappointment and will be returned.

    Uselese on playing video

    • Written by from Toronto

I am very disappointed to this device. It might be good for still pictures but when playing video to TV, it is horrible – video shaking and looks not enough frames per second. I check the iPhone and the videos on iPhone are very smooth.

You can’t really watch videos on TV. It will hurt your eyes just in 1 minute.

    half a solution

    • Written by from Oak Hill

40 bucks for half a solution. Why didn't they make the cable so that it plugs into an hdmi port on your hdtv, instead of requiring a separate hdmi cord.

    Waste of Money

    • Written by from Corvallis

For a $40 cable that doesn't work, I'm surprised it has such high reviews. I have tried this on my iPhone 4 with luck only once in showing a YouTube video; all other attempts (up to about 30 different TVs/monitors now) have failed and the device won't even be properly recognized by iOS 5. The only time it worked was on iOS 4.3, which I can't install now. Don't waste your money unless you have the latest iPad!

    Serious Design Flaw

    • Written by from San Francisco

THIS ADAPTOR IS ALMOST UNUSABLE. The dock connection does not have locking clips to secure the adaptor to the iPad or iPhone. The slightest tug on the HDMI cable or slightest movement of the iPad causes this adaptor to partly disconnect from the dock on the device. I know Apple can make a dock connection that locks; they used to ship a USB cable with older iPods that would lock into the dock connector and wouldn't disconnect unless one pressed both side buttons and then pulled the connector out.

Look up, "Joe Sabia: The technology of storytelling" on TED to see a nice example of someone having to heavily tape an adaptor to an iPad to make it usable!

    Inconsistent connection

    • Written by from Gwynn Oak

Dislike: Inconsistent HMDI connection from an iPhone 4 and worse from an iPad 2. The connection behaves as if there is a short in the cable... very frustrating! Returned the first purchase, because I thought the product may have been returned damaged; however, second purchase behaved exactly the same. I believe Apple should consider a redesign; great idea, but simply does not work well.
