30-pin digital AV adapter is a piece of junk

    • Written by from Melbourne

Worked intermittently for short while then crapped out and won't work at all now! Bought new hdmi cable with gold contacts, no help! Sending back for refund, piece of junk! Researched internet for possible fix or work-around... Found COUNTLESS complaints about this device but nothing from Apple as to what they're doing to end this deplorable situation.

    Great!

    • Written by from Jamaica

So I read the reviews and was skeptical to buy. I took a plunge and purchased the adapter... I can always return it right? Using it now as I am typing out this review. It works well... No complaints so far ! I wish there was as sort of remote app to control the iPad while I'm in bed lol!

    Broke too easily

    • Written by from Rochester Hills

Great product concept, but mine broke within 6 months and had to be replaced. Maybe a rare lemon, but definitely didn't help my product experience having to replace this quickly. Store I bought it at wouldn't take it back either.

    cable sticks

    • Written by from El Paso

The digital AV adapter works great with iPad2, the only concern is that it is a little hard to remove, has to be wiggled left to right, does not slip in and out like the cable that charges it.

    Inconsistent

    • Written by from Fort Wayne

My boyfriend bought me one of these and it worked great until I updated my software. Now it says "this device is not supported". I bought another thinking the first was faulty, but still no luck. It's a waste of $40.

    DID NOT WORK

    • Written by from Spartanburg

I was excited to get this and then was sadly disappointed that it did not work. I have been an avid Iphone owner since 2006 and love my iphone, but this saddened me. It did not mirror anything at all, just a black screen. When I purchased this item I thought I would need an HDMI cable, but the specifications did not say so. I spent the 40.00 for the adapter and an additional 30 on an HDMI cable all for it not to work:(

30 pin digital AV adapter = disappointed

    • Written by from omaha

How do you own such a lucrative, reputable company and put your brand name on a product that doesn't work universally with all your products that fit the generalized criteria. I purchased this adapter over the rocket fish brand at best buy to figure out after this adapter only works with few and far between randomized iPod/ iPads. The Best Buy sales clerk was certain that this would work with my IPad, but no dice. iPad 4 was left out for whatever reason. Yes, I finally read the scattered applicable devices on the side panel, but everyone knows Apple users have been taught not to read terms and conditions when buying seemingly obvious purchases.

    Works Great

    • Written by from Orland Park

Don't know what all the complaints are about. I purchased this connector and it worked great on both my 3rd generation iPad and my 4S iPhone. I have OS6 loaded on both devices. Images and mirroring is terrific. Slideshows work great as well as itunes music etc.

"mirror whatever" is false, "mirror some" is correct

    • Written by from Raleigh

It does not "mirror whatever is in your iPad". I tried to mirror some downloaded pictures from an iPad3 and it did not work. It made me look very bad cause I (plus a crowd) was truly depending on the "mirror" advertising.. It only works on videos. So if you are depending on it to "mirror", TEST IT FIRST or you will be in for a not very pleasant surprise.
As far as I'm concerned It's false advertising.

    Hdmi output sound no video

    • Written by from Media

Sound but no video is a communication issue between tv and your device's app. As in. A new tv(last 2 years tops) should work perfectly for any app. I had this problem. 3 yr old LCD. 1 app WATCH ESPN is flawless. Safari partially worked. Other apps had sound and no picture. Even home videos. A 1 yr old QUATTRON tv mirrors every app EXCEPT nfl network which states it will not allow hdmi out. All this said IOs 6 UPDATE DOES NOT WORK AT ALL WITH HDMI OUT.. OUTRAGEOUS!!!!!! Fix it now.....oh. please

    Apple Digital AV Adapter

    • Written by from Oakdale

I have had this adapter for about 6 months and I think it works very well with my iPhone 4 and iPad 2. It does mirroring on iPad 2&3 and plays movies, music, and slideshows on an HDTV via an HDMI cable. It also has an integrated 30 pin slot on the bottom so you can charge your iPad or iPhone while using it. Overall, I think that this is a great product for the money and is very useful!

Excellent but a little over priced

    • Written by from Easton

This is a very good adapter for students that have a flat screen tv in their room. At first it didn't work but after a little tweaking it worked perfectly. The downside of this adapter is that you not only do you have to spend $40 for the adapter but also another $20 for the HDMI cable. This is still very good for turning a 10 inch iPad screen into a 26 inch viewing area, but it will still be very great for larger tvs too. Hopefully in the future apple will have price cuts on this item.

I have to agree even though Apple products are expensive, they make durable and quality products. The video quality which I am getting to my TV with this adapter is stunning.

    Serious Design Flaw

    • Written by from San Francisco

THIS ADAPTOR IS ALMOST UNUSABLE. The dock connection does not have locking clips to secure the adaptor to the iPad or iPhone. The slightest tug on the HDMI cable or slightest movement of the iPad causes this adaptor to partly disconnect from the dock on the device. I know Apple can make a dock connection that locks; they used to ship a USB cable with older iPods that would lock into the dock connector and wouldn't disconnect unless one pressed both side buttons and then pulled the connector out.

Look up, "Joe Sabia: The technology of storytelling" on TED to see a nice example of someone having to heavily tape an adaptor to an iPad to make it usable!

It is IOS8, NOT the Adapter.

    • Written by from Jacksonville

This Adapter worked fine on IOS 7. It will not work on IOS8 with an iPad2. I spent almost two hours today with an Apple technician to whom I was kicked up after talking to two other people. He was great, and is sending me another 2nd Generation Adapter, as well as an Adapter that will work with my iPhone 5. He was unaware of this problem, and took the time to see and read these comments that you have all made here. When I have received these two parts, try them, and whatever the outcome, I am to contact him again. In the meantime, he is referring this problem to the software engineering people at Apple, and presumably it would be corrected in the next IOS8 release. (My iPad2 is running on IOS 8.0.2 (12A405).
