30-pin digital AV adapter is a piece of junk

    • Written by from Melbourne

Worked intermittently for short while then crapped out and won't work at all now! Bought new hdmi cable with gold contacts, no help! Sending back for refund, piece of junk! Researched internet for possible fix or work-around... Found COUNTLESS complaints about this device but nothing from Apple as to what they're doing to end this deplorable situation.

Absolutely Perfect on the iPad 3rd Generation

    • Written by from AURORA

I purchased the cable and it works absolutely perfect especially on the movie that I purchased on Itunes Store. I can't believe that even the sound is great. It's very easy to use and I think I would recommend this product to my friends.

Product is worthless for an Ipad 2 after iOS 7.0 upgrade

    • Written by from BALTIMORE

DO NOT upgrade to iOS 7.0 if you intend to use this with an Ipad 2 and try to mirror NetFlix with an HDMI cable. It NO LONGER WORKS...complete trash.

I have two units of this product. It used to work well with Xfinity and Netflix but after the numerous updates, they are now rendered useless. They are rotting in my desk drawer.
    Waste of money!

I was excited to get this and then was sadly disappointed that it did not work. I have been an avid Iphone owner since 2006 and love my iphone, but this saddened me. It did not mirror anything at all, just a black screen. When I purchased this item I thought I would need an HDMI cable, but the specifications did not say so. I spent the 40.00 for the adapter and an additional 30 on an HDMI cable all for it not to work:(

    Simple plug 'n play

    • Written by from Dana Point

This adapter was seamless in transferring movies and TV shows on my iPad (I have an iPad 2) to my HDTV. By comparison, it makes connecting my MacBook Pro to the TV seem complicated (that requires a separate connection for audio). Couldn't have been easier. PLUS, Apple did something here that Apple NEVER does: it combined 2 features into one adapter THUS we need not buy a separate adapter for the adapter for the charger for the blah blah blah...you know how this goes. It seems simple that you should be able to use a feature on the iPad and charge it at the same time but I've rarely known Apple to hold off an opportunity to sell us things that simply make our devices work easily within our lives. But I have 3 Apple devices so I have nothing but love-- I also have no money left ;-)

Will not work with my iPad 2. Period. Funny, my gals Kindle Fire HDMI would like a charm. Bought this and am sorely disappointed. Latest iOS and iPad 2. The box does not indicate any exceptions. HDMI should just mirror the screen, like the the Kindle does. I love my iPad but this is very disappointing for the highest priced, cutting edge tabs on the market. Ahum.

    Not as advertised

    • Written by from OTTAWA

This does not work as advertised, or, at best, the description is misleading.

On my iPhone 4, this will not mirror the screen on the TV but rather only selected apps will do so. In fact, the only two I've found that work are the built-in video app and the Netflix app. (Nice one Netflix!) Ones that do not work are VLC (it thinks it's mirroring but nothing shows up on the TV), Youtube, TED talks, Safari, or any others that I've tried.

I didn't pay a small fortune for a cable that depends on Apple's good graces and app developers to work. I thought I was getting a cable that would allow anything that displays on my iPhone 4 to display on a TV.

I just want to entertain my kids while at a hotel. For this price I can go out and buy a whole video player.

Bought it today, will try to return it tomorrow.

I bought this adapter, in person, at the Apple store in Dallas about a month ago, after discussing my equipment and my intended use. I have an iPad 2. The adapter worked flawlessly on what was my test run for switching all media rom cable to Apple TV. I could not realistically do that and handle all the media with my 2007-ish MacBook Pro (didn't support sound through HDMI, if nothing else) but that was okay because I intended to upgrade. So as step 2, I bought the MacBook Air last weekend and the thurdebolt AV adapter (which works poorly, at best), but still used my iPad running iOS 5 and its adapter without issue. Friday I upgraded to iOS 6 (6.1.3, to be exact) which rendered the thing completely useless. The TV and the iPad are connected, and they both reflect that, but no signal or sound. Why?! I can't downgrade back to iOS5 now, and since the upgrade in addition to the issues with the adapter, my painstakingly difficult process of converting over just my iTunes library to the Air (which, come on Apple, that's a basic, basic need for upgrades) was totally wrecked when I tried to sync the upgraded iPad to the library. Lost hundreds of songs, and ultimately had to wipe the iPad altogether and start again. Now I can't watch video at all through the iPad and the thuderbolt is sketchy, at best, and only really works when you physically hold the adapter into the thuderbolt post. How is this making things that "Just Work"?!

    "This accessory is not supported"

When I plug this into my iPad 3/Retina, I get the "This accessory is not supported" message and it doesn't function at all. However, I've used it with my previous iPad (iPad v.1) successfully.

    Does exactly what it says

    • Written by from Cupertino

Not sure what all the fuss is about? I am able to connect my iPhone 4S to this adapter to a HDMI cable to my TV and my phone display is mirrored on the TV. I am able to play slideshows (with music) and videos from my photo album (which is what I needed this for). I also able to show videos using the Youtube app and show games like Angry Birds.

The only complaint (and it's a small one) is the pictures do not completely fill the TV screen (there are small black bars above and below). That's probably due to the fact that the iPhone outputs in 720p and my TV is 1080p?

No issues. The only apps with issues are things like xfinity player, but not due to technical limitations. There are contractual limitations.

    The following apps work fine:

So I bought this since I have an Ipad 3 and an Ipad 4, the problem is when I plug it into my ipad 4 via a 30 pin to lighnening connector it says it is not a supported device. I thought that was the whole point of the 30 pin to lighning connector, to make 30 pin products work on the new lightneng connector

Does not work with iPad 2

    • Written by from Denton

I am seriously about to trash all of my apple products! I bought this adapter before AirPlay came out. The current version of Flixster is still not working correctly with AirPlay even with the update that came out today (4/22/13). So I resorted to my old 30 pin to hdmi which use to work fine with my iPad 2. Now with the iOS 6 software it doesn't??? What kind of show are you running apple? That's absolute garbage. I can understand the the Flixster side which is probably one or 2 more software updates away from getting it right, but a genuine apple product that doesn't work anymore because of an apple software update. WOW! This is 2013....get it right!
