Got it to WORK, mostly... Mirroring Yeah!...so far...

    • Written by from Vero Beach

Okay, I know that there are many of us that have been having issues with our Apple 30-pin Digital AV Adapter since the update for the iso 8.0 +... But after reading most of the reviews and trying again and again with my 3rd party 30-pin Digital AV Adapter on both of my TVs without any luck I decide to go to the Apple Store and asked the manager if I could try the "Apple 30-pin Digital AV Adapter" on their TV to see if we could get it to work there. Otherwise I wasn't going to purchase it if it didn't work. Not until Apple fixed the problem. I also brought my adapter too. The Manager there was great! He saw that it wouldn't work with my third party adapter using my iPad 3. Then we tried the "Apple" adapter and it STILL WOULD NOT WORK! BUT, after going to settings and tapping on AIRPLANE MODE off to on then on to off, THERE IT WAS! the iPad 3 was mirrored onto the TV! : ) Then we unplugged it and tried the third party adapter and that adapter did the same thing and it still wouldn't work. (it use to before the update to 8.0)... So then we replugged the Apple adapter and again, NO MIRRORING! He tried plugging and unplugging the adapter from the HDMI cable tapping on the AIRPLANE MODE, no luck no picture. By this point the manager agreed with me that there is something very wrong here. He was kind enough to give me the Apple 30-pin Digital AV Adapter for free and told me to try it at home to see if I can get it to work. Plus the telephone # to report the problem so that Apple can get serious and do something about this issue. That number is 1-800-APL-CARE. I got home and plugged it in and there it was on my TV! : ) Working, so far! I encourage all of you who is having a similar issue and is using an Apple 30-pin Digital AV Adapter to mirror to your TV to first try the Airplane Mode trick, if you still have issues call this number. Good luck to you all!

Make sure to have the most recent version of iOS!!!

    • Written by from Tempe

After much frustration, we figured out why this product didn't initially function at all. You must have the latest version of iOS regardless of the device that it is compatible with.

When plugged it to compatible devices (iPod Touch 4th Gen and iPhone 4S) an error message popped up saying "This accessory is not compatible with this device". We scheduled a Genius Bar appointment and even they were stumped for a bit but determined it must be the software. My iPod was apparently still running iOS 4.2. Apparently this adapter was not created until after iOS 6 (I believe that was the version they said) so it only works with 6 and above (but don't quote me on that part). Just get the latest software and it will function.

Posting this review so it gets seen by other frustrated users. Apple really needs to put this disclaimer on the box. How simple would it be to write "Compatible with iPod Touch 4th Gen, iPhone 4s, and iPad. Must be running iOS 6 or higher"? 4 stars because the product works but had MUCH frustration trying to get it to work.

Works well but expensive for my taste

    • Written by from Burlington

I'm pretty convinced the bad reviews are from people who have lofty expectations about what this is supposed to do. Several apps such as Youtube and Amazon Instant don't "connect" through the HDMI. That's just how it works, some services just don't play through the HDMI. You would have to complain to the media servicer because there's nothing wrong with the cable.

I have been useing the New Version Apple Digital AV Adapter ( A1422 ) sence it was first made available. Started using it with my iPad 2nd gen., only about a month old and at first it did not work at all with genaric HDMI cable I had so I went and spent $46 on a nice black and blue Nylon woven sleaving around the actual cable with the Gold plated connection ends and it worked great. I then bought the iPad 3rd gen. ( The New iPad ) and started using the Adapter with it and this time flawless, no issue at all. This adapter is working great with the iPad 2nd with the newest update 7.1 to kick, how, I Don't know why and don't care, it works great, if it isn't broke don't fix it right. And still working great with the iPad 3rd with 7.1.... So I have no complaint with it, on working with the iPads.

My problem is when I hook up the HDMI with my iPod Touch 4th gen. to my HDTV and tried all three ports, all I get is very great sound and no picture. Tried all there ports shutting everything off and restarting the HDTV and iPod Touch 4th gen. And still the same thing great sound and no picture, I mean really. I just want to use for RedBox Instant app. Yes it works with it on both iPads but not the iPod. Why not just use the iPad sense it works with it you, well I will tell ya, lol, I wont to be able to use my iPad while in and out of the movie. But check this out the TV I am trying it on is a off brand that works really well called a Sceptre HDTV , well thats what the makers say anyway, in my opinion it's not a true HDTV because we get the HD services and lol it still don't look like our LG Smart HDTV that I have not tried the iPod Touch 4th on yet. And I will later and give the update. Thank you for reading, have a great one.

Bought this today. Had a problem at first with video ... snow ... video ... snow ... video. Switched to another HDMI input on my TV and have had absolutely *NO* problems since. Plays beautiful video and audio is top-notch. Works equally well on my iPhone 4S (ISO7) and my wife's iPad 2 (IOS6)

Ok, might fixed alot of peoples problems

    • Written by from FORT WALTON BEACH

Like 70% of you this item didnt work, AT ALL. after a few basic computer troubleshooting, i have come across a potential fix. Turn your iPad off > plug in Adapter > turn on. While on the iPad it will transfer and mimic the screen. Once in a movie or show itll take up full screen. SO far i dont have any complaints other than maybe apple should have found some way to remove this bug after a year of people complaining

There are a few reviews on here that say the adapter doesn't work with iOS 6. These reviews are INCORRECT. The adapter works fine with iOS 6.

    It Works Fine So Far

    • Written by from Dayton

I've read a few reviews that made me worry, but I haven't experienced anything bad so far. It mirrors everything on my screen pretty well. It's cropped, but it mirrors everything. When I click on a youtube video, however, the video utilizes the entire screen. It works fine, but I'm hesitant to give it a full five stars because I haven't yet tried it with every program.

Works well on original iPad for video-out only

    • Written by from Lawrence

...because that is all it supports on original iPad, along with photo slideshows. I think Keynote supports it too but I never used it.

This is an awesome thing for the traveler because most hotel TVs now have HDMI ports. Unfortunately many hotels disable the ability to switch the TV's input source, hoping you'll spend $10 or so for a blurry lo-def old movie. If you can disconnect everything from the back of the TV aside from HDMI obviously, then it'll usually work. I also have the AV adapter for older sets with no HDMI, or where the HDMI is disabled; sometimes you can get a signal through the AV input. Some hotels like Aloft and some Westins have a box with all kinds of inputs but these are pretty hit-or-miss; at the Westin Atlanta airport, the HDMI did not work but the AV inputs did.

I was going to buy a refurb iPad 3, but now after reading reports that iOS 6 breaks video output I think I'll stick with the old one, which can't even run iOS 6, and video is about the only thing I use the iPad for anyway. If/when this problem is fixed then I'll replace it with an iPad 3, not the 4 or mini, no need to re-purchase two new video-out adapters or 30pin->Lightning adapters; just what I need, one more white expensive little thing to lose or forget in a hotel room... already spent enough on new power supplies.

Tricky at first, but great once we got it going

    • Written by from Howard Lake

I had first purchased this to use to connect our ipad to our tv. Had I done a little more reading I would have seen that it wasn't compatible with our ipad version. Then, I tried to plug it into my husband's iphone4. When I plugged it in the phone said not this accessory was not supported with my device. Great. I had all but given up when I decided to try my iphone. Plugged it in. worked just fine. Realized my husband's phone has never had a software update and mine has. Not sure if that was the difference but glad we tried.

    cable sticks

The digital AV adapter works great with iPad2, the only concern is that it is a little hard to remove, has to be wiggled left to right, does not slip in and out like the cable that charges it.

Hooked my iPad 3 to a Samsung P2770HD monitor, and there it is! Screen looks like my iPad!

It is a "snug" connection - a tiny bit hard to get out of the iPad3 - hope that it holds up as I do plan to plug it / unplug it, often.

Works great with iPhone 4S, loses 3G with HDMI connected

    • Written by from Helendale

I imported some TV shows off of DVD and they look great on the 42" LCD TV, but I noticed that when it is connected to the HDMI out it loses its broadband connection. I have yet to try it while having it plugged into the charger and viewing streaming video to see if that is the issue. Overall it does what it says it will do.

    Av adapter for iPad 2

Gets good reception. What I don't like about it is that it doesn't fit into the iPad very tight and the least little move of the iPad and it comes out.

    Works well but

    • Written by from San Diego

I purchased this accessory for my new iPad 3. it works very well except for two glaring issues. The first issue another reviewer has already pointed out but it is very true; the problem is that no one told me that there were two buttons on the side that would allow me to take out the adapter with ease so for an entire week I was pulling on this thinking that I was about to break my iPad by pulling on it the connector. so I think it is very important like the other reviewer quoted that you need to have a notice that the purchaser can see right away that tells them about the two buttons on the side to disconnect it from the connector. The other issue may be something that the other people who haven't gotten this to work need to acknowledge. For some reason when I used a cheaper HDMI cable it did not work so when I exchanged it for another HDMI cable I had laying around that was much more expensive it did work I don't know why

    It's not the Adapter, it's iDevice/display compatibility

    • Written by from Concord

Reviewers who experience problems need to learn that HDMI is a flakey, frequently unstable interface for displays and other devices just as the first FireWire is, regardless of whether it's an Apple product or any other brand of cable, adapter, and device. The solution, beside having the latest iOS update, is making the connection as short and direct as possible as well as learning that you may have to "wake up" the display by reconnecting the cable (I installed a switch just to avoid that) or find out what works for you (power-cycle or switch between inputs on your display). The ultimate solution is to substitute another model or display/TV. If you take your device and adapter with the connecting cable into an Apple store it will most likely work fine with their equipment because they have selected the display or TV that they know works with the Pod, Phone, and Pad. Don't blame Apple for the incompatibility.

    Cool but not great

    • Written by from South San Francisco

I have the 1st Generation iPad it only works on watching movie and movie app (Netflix). All others won't send to TV some only get sound but no video (Photo won't work). Youtube OK.
I did updated the OS to 5.1

I use it on my iPhone 4S everything send to TV even playing games but will not show in FULL SCREEN.

Overall - I like it since I purchase this adapter mainly for watching the movie on TV. Picture quality depends on the movie itself. HD movies are great. I choose this adapter over the Apple TV because I use my iPad in different locations and all I need is to bring this adapter.
