    Buy the newest version.

I puchased a New iPad (iPad 3rd gen.) the week it was released. I decided a week later I needed the camera kit, digital AV adapter, and and extra charger. The digital AV adapter was posting an "not supported" message and after I dismissed the message it didn't work ( as the support page suggests). I was able to contact support after a 40min on and off call I asked if there might be a newer version ( the Apple support team member refered to my digital AV adapter as a 1st gen. model ). I went to an Apple store and they exchanged it no questions asked. Anyone in the market for this adapter should buy the one in the box not the one in the hanging bag. First its compatible with most devices, second the size of the 30 pin adapter is smaller than the previous which is good if like me you have your iPad in a Otterbox type case. Once you have the right one its smooth sailing. So get the right one.

Great idea but poor product with bad disign

    • Written by from San Gabriel

It is such a great idea that you could import all the images such as photos, movies, games from your ipad, iphone 4 to the much bigger screen (HDTV, or Vega TV). But the product itself is just poorly designed with very inferior quality. The connector with extremely short cable makes it very easy to fall off , and the the connector appear could not fit into the devices(ipad or iphone4). I have been trying several times unsuccessful. Conclusion, this is certainly defective design with very poor quality, Apple could easily makes it a better experience by imprving its design and quality. I am quite surprise this product could receive such high rating. But I have to admit that the concept of this product is super.

I followed the connection diagram on the package, and 30 seconds later i am watching the IPAD images on my HDTV via my HDM4 connection. Simple and quick!

    Works... barely.

    • Written by from Knoxville

I generally love Apple products, so believe me when i say that this is one of apple's worst designed products. The 3 inch cable attaches to your iDevice purely on some springy tabs. Whenever you move your, lets say for now, iPad 2, it dislodges itself, severing connection. Then you must finagle with it until it reconnects.
That being said, if you never touch your device or a gust of hard wind doesn't blow on it, it functions flawlessly. Apple apps work well, mirroring works well, and most third party apps work well.
Basically, this works well, but only if you never touch it... Ever!

does not work most of the time

    • Written by from Usquert

Upon connection to my iPad (3rd gen) nine out of ten times it says: This Accessory is Not Supported. Even so it should be compatible according to Apple. Similar for my iPhone 4S, although I did manage to play a video on my TV with it (one time).

    Works with MLB app

    • Written by from Wilmette

I have the MLB at Bat app and watch out of market games on my iPad. I wanted to see the games on my big screen HDTV, so I bought this device. Works like a charm.

    Less functionality on iPod Touch

    • Written by from Columbus

Where it says "see everything on your screen", that applies to the iPhone and iPad. On an iPod touch, you won't see everything on the screen nor on some videos. I have MLB At Bat and can, for example, see a full-length game on a connected TV but not condensed games. If you have an iPod touch, these limitations should be considered.

Just what you were hoping for but better!

This little device works wonders with your new iPad! It will mirror just about anything you want your iPad to mirror. One of my apps even has 3-D TV viewing (which is really cool!). Many people CLAIM that this device doesn't work with iPhoto, but I am here to tell you that IT DOES! Those "foolish" people just didn't turn on the switch in the "in app" settings for iPhoto that allows TV mirroring.
Secondly, this device is perfect for high profile presenters. With keynote and this adapter, presentations are fun and easy to do in any class setting (whether you are a "lazy" PowerPoint History teacher who makes back to back notes or a high profile top notch Engineering Presenter). Also I recommend the keynote remote app alongside keynote if your also going to get this adapter. If you are thinking of getting this product, then I say GET IT!

    digital adapter

Works great with iPad 3 but because it is a slightly older model I get the message that iPad 'does not support this accessory'. just say ok. It works fine. I checked with tech support and they agree. no need to buy another more recent version.

Works great with iPhone 4S, loses 3G with HDMI connected

    • Written by from Helendale

I imported some TV shows off of DVD and they look great on the 42" LCD TV, but I noticed that when it is connected to the HDMI out it loses its broadband connection. I have yet to try it while having it plugged into the charger and viewing streaming video to see if that is the issue. Overall it does what it says it will do.

    Av adapter for iPad 2

    • Written by from West stalls

Gets good reception. What I don't like about it is that it doesn't fit into the iPad very tight and the least little move of the iPad and it comes out.

    Works just as expected

    • Written by from Norton

I bought this so that I could project anything on my new iPad (3 gen) to my class. I tested it with my iPod touch and found out (at the local Apple store) that only certain apps would project on a Touch or iPhone.

I was at a conference with a video projector and asked to try out my new iPad and my new connector during a break. It worked perfectly. It mirrored (and displayed) everything on my iPad. The presenter then tried her iPad 2, and it failed. Apparently the new iPad is the one to use if you want to project anything you have.

    Great Connection to TV!

    • Written by from Primghar

I have the iPad 2 and an iPhone 4 and it works great with both of these. I would like to point out that with the iPad 2 it will mirror exactly what you do where as the iPhone 4 will only show pictures, videos and etc. I think that it is a good investment for the people who don't really want to buy the Apple TV but want to be able to show off their pictures, videos, new apps and more to a whole room of people. The other option is to get the Apple iPad VGA Adapter which would also connect to a TV with a VGA connection. I think that it is a good investment and a very reasonable price! FIVE STAR PRODUCT!!!!
