    My iMac was stolen

I have had the time capsule for a while and it worked fine as a wireless router. Two days ago we had a break in and my iMac,iPhones and several other items were stolen. I was very concerned that family photos were lost and that I would be spending countless hours getting everything back to where it was. The time capsule saved me. I was able to get my new iMac and iPhone back to where they were with minimal effort. Be sure to put it somewhere where it won't get stolen with your computer.

Time Capsule hits the sweet spot

I've been through external hard drives and USB flash drives, but they just weren't doing it for me. I did not want a hard drive connected next to my computer all the Time for automatic Time Machine backups. If I just wanted to drag and drop my files to a USB flash drive (or hard drive), I would have to do it after every iTunes song I download or after every picture I upload.

It just felt highly impractical, so I decided to go with Time Capsule for the above reasons. Setup is very quick. It recognized my previous Airport Extreme configuration and passwords, so I really did not have to set up anything. Initial backup took about 45 minutes for about 20GB. After that, it's seamless. I really don't use Time Machine, because I primarily wanted a device that backs up for me in an easy-to-use way. Although having Time Machine is great for those times where you need to recover something you lost.

Time Capsule also has a great design. I love the silver Apple logo.

I have not noticed any jump in range or performance with this new 2TB Time Capsule compared to my last-generation Airport Extreme. The range may be slightly better, but if it is, it isn't that noticeable.

You cannot beat this setup for backing up.

As with all Apple products, 5/5

    Time Capsule is Great

Almost everything works like you would imagine it would... back up's are stored perfectly, and Time Machine makes finding back ups soooo simple! The only 2 negative things i have to say our...

    1. If you don't back up in the last 10 days (example, going on a trip, visiting a relatives house, or what ever)... so if you don't back up in 10 days your back up is going to be hard to reconnect with your Mac, for some reason if you don't back up within 10 days, you must verify the entire Back Up, and during this process you might be prompted to start all over (which means you loose all your previous back up, and you have to create a fresh one from your existing mac).

    2. You can only back up through your own Time Capsule wifi network. It would be so much better if you could back up over the internet, from anywhere (If you fix this problem, this would solve problem 1). There are work arounds, but that requires you have DNS.... I don't want a complicated work around, I want it so it "just works".

    Older generations shouldn't review!

The only bad reviews I see on here are from people with older generations of time capsule. This time capsule (5th generation) has only been out 5 months or so. So everyone saying it only last 12-18 months are talking about older versions. Those reviews do not apply to here. I understand the frustration but I would hope Apple has addressed this issue with this new version. I will report back in a couple of years to let you know if there are any problems with this version.

Oh yeah, BTW: Time Capsule is awesome!

    Best investment in computer equipment...

Money well spent...I have had my Time Capsule 500GB since early introduction and I LOVE it. It has worked flawlessly and effortlessly in the background since purchased. I recently purchased a new MacBook Pro Retina and after 2 weeks with the new computer it had some kind of an issue and it dumped all the files I had worked on for the last 2 weeks, including fonts I had installed, emails and some other stored data. I was so simple to retrieve the information I needed from my Time Capsule. I plan to purchase a new, 2TB Time Capsule this week and give my old one to my son. Thanks Apple!

The best investment I made since buying a computer!

I've owned Apple computers since the old Mac Classic days and have gone through many operating systems. Suffice it to say that I've also experienced a number of crashes requiring reformatting my hard drive and reinstalling everything either from a backup or one-by-one. It's always been a horrible experience. A little more than a month ago I upgraded my iMac to Mountain Lion. Short story there is that the install caused a catastrophic loss of data and, again, I was forced to wipe the drive and begin again. I always found excuses not to use Time Machine and not to purchase a Time Capsule, but after my last upgrade disaster, I decided to take the plunge. A week ago Apple issued a product recall on my iMac because the boot drive suffered a manufacturing defect and was likely to fail, so I was faced with another experience of starting from scratch. Today I picked up my iMac and when I booted it at home I used the Mountain Lion recovery partition to access Time Machine, restoring everything to my computer from my Time Capsule. Four hours later, voila! It was as if nothing had happened. I didn't have to reinstall anything, and everything worked perfectly. It was as if nothing ever happened! It was the easiest and best experience I've had with a critical computer problem. I highly recommend the Time Capsule. Buy it. Use it. Don't be without it. I'm using it to back up my Macbook Pro and my iMac. Now I definitely have peace of mind.

    Incredible Value & Extremely Fast!

I'm a professional photographer with three Macs in my studio and a pc. Before I purchased the Time Capsule I was using an Airport Extreme dual-band. Since my place is two stories, I was also using an Airport Express to expand my network downstairs, basically because my old Airport Extreme did NOT send signal through both floors. The 4th Gen Time Capsule absolutely covers both floors and I no longer need the Airport Express. That's pretty impressive in itself. I currently have the 4th Gen Time Capsule connected to two quad-core iMacs with Cat6 gigabit cables, and the connection is fast! Super fast. Basically as fast as USB 2, not quite as fast as Firewire 800. The 2TB hard drive inside the Time Capsule allows me to share huge galleries between all the computers in my studio. It's certainly a lot more convenient than moving external hard drives around between computers. With my old Airport Extreme I tried hooking up a 2TB hard drive to the USB port on the back, but the transfer rate was abysmal. The transfer rate from the 4th Gen Time Capsule is soooo much faster and has really solved all our problems.

I want to take a minute to talk about value. First, think about how much a good dual-band wireless router costs. You can get an average router for $50, a decent one for $100, and a super fast router for $150. The range and speed of the 4th Gen Time Capsule are both comparable to the fastest routers sold by Netgear or Linksys, which by themselves would cost you $150. Now think about how much a 2TB external hard drive costs. You can get one on sale for like $70-90 sometimes, but you often see them for $150. So to reproduce what you get with the 4th Gen Time Capsule, you would have to spend anywhere from $200-$300. Now, how much is the Time Capsule - $300. As you can see, the Time Capsule is an incredible value! But it also gives you some advantages that you can't get if you buy alternative products. For example, the Time Capsule is an all-in-one product so it saves space and looks good sitting on your desk out of the way. Even better, the Time Capsule syncs as a Time Machine with ALL the Macs in your house. Last night my MacBook Pro's Time Machine synced wirelessly with Time Capsule in about 90 minutes, sending a little over 50GB. That's pretty quick for wireless. Over a Cat6 gigabit cable Time Machine basically runs as fast as a USB2 hard drive. The final advantage the Time Capsule gives you is a network hard drive available to all the computers in your home/studio. One hard drive to rule them all. And don't forget, because it's an Apple product, the Time Capsule is incredibly easy to setup. So it's an incredible value: a dual-band router, an external hard drive, a Time Machine for all your Macs, network storage for all your Macs, all-in-one form factor, and easy to setup.

    Time capsule still delivering

I have held off placing a review until I had about 5 years experience with the Time Capsule - Have recently upgraded from a 500 GB model to the 2 TB model. I dropped my mac some while back and killed the hard drive - no problem recovering all my files and programs (except for a Microsoft partition). I installed the new drive, fed in my Mac OS DVDs and was prompted by the system to restore the drive when it saw a Time Capsule wireless device. It was all too easy after that - it was like the accident never happened. I have passed that Time Capsule device to my daughter and upgraded to the larger drive and we back up three computers on it. No problems at all. Great for wireless printing too. I was worried about reliability, but the two devices I have owned have worked flawlessly. Love it.

Time Capsule - 2TB - Nearly two years later

Deciding whether or not I wanted to buy the new dual band Time Capsule and as always, I decided to check out the reviews.
I am surprised to read that more than a few have had issues with their Time Capsule so I decided to put in my two-cents worth. First-off, using various brands of routers, I've had my house home-networked wirelessly for 15+ years, all served me well but brought me connectivity issues one-time or another. Since the coming of the iPod, my family has always used Apple products. My kids (now grown and gone) loved them because they were cool but for my wife and I, because of the convenience and seamless home network integration with our music, videos, apps and now most importantly, staying in touch with our kids, friends and workplaces.
Windows Vista and its compatibility issues with nearly every peripheral and software I had, drove me over the edge to purchase my first MAC All-in-One and with it, the Time Capsule Extreme. From the time I turned on my MAC and Time Capsule to the time I had every wireless device in my household seamlessly connected was maybe 20 minutes and my entire music collection wirelessly transferred in about an hour.
Since that time and to extend my network, I purchased the 2 TB Time Capsule and moved my Extreme to middle part of my home to strengthen my network for Apple TV and other Airplay compatible devices. In fact, the process was so simple and seamless that I purchased the Airport Express to extend the network to my “man area” in my back yard.
No connectivity problems, no hardware issues and no backup challenges. I can’t speak for everyone else but my experience with Airport devices have been nothing but positive.

Loved this product until it un-expectantly died. I was shocked when mine randomly quit working and I was furious when I found a forum (on apple's website under discussions.apple titled "Time Capsule Dead??") showing 74 PAGES with approximately 15 posts per page of people with the exact same problem. Phone support from Apple provided no help. How could Apple have such a defective product and do nothing about it???

TIme capsule great storage and improved my wifi

I wanted to get a time capsule for my 2tb iMac. After using it for about a week I can say I am very pleased. The initial back lup wireless of about 300 gb of stuff took about 5-6 hours on a 40 mb dsl connection on apples own 5Ghz wifi connection. One main reason i bought this is I had went through numerous gateway (router/modem) through my internet provider. I had a 40 mb connection but was lucky if i was averaging 20 mb at max even if the gateway was right by the iMac. After numerous tech visits i was advised my best bet would be to use a separate router. After reading numerous reviews about the time capsule improving wifi I thought what the heck if i don't like it or see an improvement I can take it back with in the first 14 days. After testing the time capsules wifi abilities I can say using the 2Ghz wifi connection I'm now averaging about 30-35 mbs, and over the 5Ghz wifi I am averaging between 35 and 38 mbs and thats with my time port downstairs. WIth the speed bump for my wifi alone I am very happy and knowing that all my music, movies and files are backed up is just great peace of mind. My iPad 2 also sees a speed bump when using the 5Ghz. You can also use time capsule to backup multiple apple computers as it just creates a separate backup folder for each one. You can also download the airport utility app for your iPad or iPhone to control your time capsules network. Well worth the money and what a breeze to use.

The Macintosh Time Capsule is the best $300 I've ever spent! After reading some reviews that the TC power source failed in some cases becoming "a brick," I was leery. I almost didn't buy it. I am so thankful I did. I've had it for a few months now. My small business runs from my mac, my truck, and my tools. On a job yesterday, the laptop and some other items were stolen from my truck. I bought a new MacBook yesterday afternoon and, using the TC, reloaded everything from the old laptop in AN HOUR. I did have to re-install Microsoft office from the original DVD disks, but other than that, it was SEAMLESS! I'm back in business!!! Great product! Saved me from LOADS OF AGGRAVATION and thousands of dollars, literally.

    Fixed my problem

After weeks of thinking if a good router would fix my problems I decided to buy the Time Capsule because I needed a hard Drive too, so It was my best Choice. It was a lot of money, and Here in Mexico es more expensive. But i bought It and I'm very happy with my TC.

My problem was that my internet was very poor in my bedroom cause I had the modem in the leaving room, and all the employees of the Store told me that the TC wasn´t going to help me with that, well.. They were wrong! now I can watch Plex on my appleTV all day without cuts and I can go to the badroom and surf very good the web on my iPhone haha. And about the space of the hard drive no coments, 2TB is a LOT so I´m downloading a lot of movies and finally can see them without the cables and no interruptions!

    Worth It every "peso"!!

    (Sorry for my bad english)

We bought the TIme Capsule after about 2 years of talking about it. The final straw was moving to a new place, getting set up with a new wireless router from our internet provider, and finding that the Wifi connection was terrible. So, if we were going to buy a new router anyway... why not? After experiencing a total system crash once before, I can't tell you how much peace of mind the automatic and wireless backups have given me. And on top that, the wireless is ridiculously fast and expansive. If you're thinking of buying an Airport Extreme and have the means, I would strongly urge to you to consider spending the additional $129 and getting the added benefit of the backup drive.

Just got this yesterday. I'm not the most computer savvy person but only took me 20 minutes to set everything up. First back up took over night as the book said. Very easy to use. WiFi works great. Still get a signal 50 feet outside my front door. I set up a Guest user and password. No problem.

It's 2TB. It can be used as a router, external hard drive and a back up drive. I purchased the refurbished item of this on best buy for a cheaper price and have no regrets.

Remember, it's not just used for time machine back ups, but a wireless external hard drive and router as well. Good job Apple.

    Ok,

So here goes, I was very hesitant to purchase the time capsule because of the poor reviews from the last year. I spoke with customer support on line and was assured that the bugs had been worked out and the time capsule is working wonderfully. So I took the chance and purchased it. Well nervously I opened it and plugged it in. Well within 1 minute the network was up and running and the wireless is AMAZING! It is faster than anything I have ever used. So now it's time to back up all my files and my music and I am scared to death but SURPRISE! It was too easy to do and wicked fast! So in summary this is worth every single penny!

So now whats next! Thanks Apple

I absolutly love this product. My computer was so full of music and movies that I couldn't even enjoy the apple TV I purchased cuase the computer was just so slow. This made my day when I could store all my movies and music on it and then reference the information so that my computers and laptops were empty and free to run at peek efficency.

I have spoken to techs at apple about what I had purchased it for and they all said that there would be glitches since it's not what it was designed for. So far so good. But I would suggest that apple look into this and maybe design it for this purpose if some poeple are having problems.

This is by far the most usefull apple product I have bought yet.

    Thank You APPLE!
