    Awful. Do not buy.

    • Written by from BRAY

It was nice while it worked. However, my Time Capsule stopped working after about 18 months. Apple refused to replace it or fix it.

Crashed but HD was still good.

    • Written by from Salisbury

I had 2 of the 500gig TC's. My first one just died but I think it was just the power supply went south. I pulled the Hard Drive out, purchased an HD USB Caddy and all of my files were still there. Transferred the files over and all is well. I do agree for the price of the TC it needs to last longer, but DON'T throw your HD out until you check it. The caddy cost $50 from Best Buy and saved me a lot of heartache...

    Very easy to setup

    • Written by from Sierra Vista

I did not have internet at my apartment before I got this, so the day it arrived I went to the Cox store and signed up for their internet.

I got home and since I dont have a computer I used my iPhone to setup the Time Capsule and within 5 minutes (maybe less), I had WiFi in my apartment.

I havent tried the "hard drive" portion of it as I dont have a laptop (Im still waiting for the new ones to come out in July.

    Very Easy To Setup

    It's worth it!

    • Written by from Miami

It's 2TB. It can be used as a router, external hard drive and a back up drive. I purchased the refurbished item of this on best buy for a cheaper price and have no regrets.

Remember, it's not just used for time machine back ups, but a wireless external hard drive and router as well. Good job Apple.

    TC = SLOW Internet connection

    • Written by from Durham

I have encountered a number of nagging issues with the Time Capsule. I have the 2TB version.
Issue 1 - Very slow internet speeds. When I connect directly to my cable modem box, my speeds (speediest from TIme Warner) are about 20 Mbps. When I connect my TC, the speed drops to about 5 Mbps (download) and gradually degrades to about 90 Kbps over the next few days. I have to power down the TC for a while and reconnect it before my speed again reaches 25% of my actual connection speed. On the Apple boards, I see that this is a common issue.
Issue 2 - I have no control over the files on the device. I started using a dedicated drive to back up one of my laptops but could not remove the backup from the device. Further, the device would, without warning or recourse, drop months of data or make it inaccessible.
Solution: Don't get this for backup. Don't get this for internet. It does neither well.

Everything is perfect until the hard drive crashes...

    • Written by from Dubai

Using a Time Capsule for back-up´s is an easy and convenient solution. Airport and access are fast and safe. Nevertheless, it is better not to rely to much on the storage solution.
My Time Capsule crashed and after less than one year in use. Apple might provide repairing service, but the data is lost anyway.
Having learned from this bad experience, the next home use backup-drive will have at least two HD´s and will run as a RAID 1 system.

    Wireless Printer FAIL

    • Written by from Ladera Ranch

The new software update has made my wireless printers unusable.

You simply CANNOT configure wireless printer set up the way you can with routers from other manufacturers.

And the wireless hand shake repeatedly breaks, and a manual USB re-set up is required every time.

    Worst Apple product ever.

Do not try to lose all of your data!

    • Written by from SAINT LOUIS

I have my Time Capsule 2TB for less than 1.5 year. The hard disk died after I use it for 10 months. Since it was under applecare, I sent it back to get repaired and got a new one back. However, after using the "NEW" Time Capsule for a little bit more than TWO months, the hard disk died again, which means I lose my data AGAIN, just now. It's not under applecare anymore, and I am not sure if I want to pay and send it back AGAIN, since at least it can still work as a AirPort Extreme Base Station. The only thing I know is: I would never put data into this airport disk again. I also don't know what's the point to pay $300 the get a AirPort Extreme Base Station in the end.

think about what you need first

    • Written by from Lynwood

Time machine is not a place to store the documents that you never want to lose. Its a just a way to keep your computer in the state its in if it ever breaks down on you. The way it works is that it backs up all your documents but once the storage drive starts getting full it will delete some of your first back ups so it could continue backing up your current files (with out telling you). So all the stuff from your first back ups that you deleted (for say) before your second back up will be gone once you back up your files like a year later. Its better to just transfer files to a external hard drive like the old days. this might be good for a desktop with a 2 TB drive but not for a laptop with 500GB of memory. Think about it before you buy it to know what you really need.

    Awesome until it wasn't

    • Written by from Deerfield

Review is for the 1TB model.

I raved and raved about how awesome this product was...until it just died. Checked Apple Forums to discover the problem was very common. Less than three years old with plenty of space remaining on the hard drive. Now cannot access any of my backed up documents.

VERY DISAPPOINTING FOR AN APPLE PRODUCT! Just unacceptable for an external backup drive.

    Top of the Line

    • Written by from Burbank

Why should we have to worry about backups in this decade?

We shouldn't, and with Time Capsule, we don't have to.

From the moment I enter my home, my portable devices sync and backup their data, wirelessly and without prompting from me, and my desktops do the same when I bring them online.

Runs cool, silent, and provides me with strong, flawless WiFi as well.

    Buy it. BUY IT NOW!

    Wow!

    • Written by from Union City

I'm soooo not tech savyy, but the Time Capsule is more then what I expected; By far easiest mac product to set up. I purchased the Time Capsule to back up my iMac and Macpro to a single source while taking advantage of its Wifi features. I must say, being able to provide wifi to guests without accessing my private network is a must and truly convenient.

    This thing is a Monster!

    • Written by from Macomb Township

I bought this thing yesterday to replace my air port express. Air port express just couldn't handle all the devices in the house any more. I am running two macs, two cell phones, wireless sub woofer, and apple tv off this. I had some net work issues when I first hooked it up, but when I finally got that situated this thing just blows the express away! Amazingly fast to say the least. I just wish I had bought one sooner because I have the performance package for my internet and I realized what I have been missing all this time! I feel like I can run the whole neighborhood with this thing. A little on the expensive side, but worth it if you can buy one.

    Drives you Mad

    • Written by from Madrid

May I should say Apple drives you mad. This is my most hated piece of hardware in the house. It is extremely difficult to configure and Apple changes the software every now and then to make sure you're never completely used to it. The latest airport version (6) will NOT let you print, even though you bought the thing with that in mind. Honestly, spare your money until Apple does something about this, there are cheaper ways of getting it all connected around the house AND backup WITH Time Machine other than Time Capsule.

First Apple product that has ever disappointed

    • Written by from Seattle

I still have my Mac 512. That's how long I've been buying Apple products. So I had high expectations when I purchased the 1TB Time Capsule. Unfortunately, it only gave me two years of service before the hard drive failed. Apparently, the wireless router portion of it won't work if the hard drive fails, either, so I had to chuck it and start over again. No more all-in-one peripherals for me.

An expensive lesson I won't make again.

I replaced it with an Airport Extreme and a separate hard drive for use with Time Machine.

    LUV IT

    • Written by from v

This made a huge difference in speed alone, I would have to wait for more than 10minutes for any video to load up from You Tube on my Mac and PC., now on my 2 PC's, 2 Macs, 2 Mac books and an iPad 4g LTE , all up and working at lightning speeds. I now click on a video and its starts playing immead, no buffering at all, loads right up. I like the Guest feature to use our WiFi, this way I don't have to tell my guests or type my password on their device. I love the storage that I don't think i can ever fill up and backing up my quickbooks is automatic now. Love this product. and totally recommend for a home or small office.

do not buy its not really a bck up when it fails you lose all your data any

    • Written by from Brooklyn

There is no NAS feature or RAID feature, the router configuration works no better then my 50 dollar linsky router.

If your drive fails you cannot get your data back so this is useless. Their are to many options out there for less than the cost of this or equal the amount with better quality and actual protection. these only last one year also.

If you have to have a apple product because you are a apple fan purchase the airport extrem with a hard drive with raid protection.
