    Incredible Product!

    • Written by from Rockland

One again, Apple knocks it out of the Park. I have used them all including 2 of the most recent Cnet top 5's (June 2012) and returned both to Staples. My network now consists of AirPort Extreme and 3 Airport Express (2 used as Extenders and one for AirPlay on my sound system)

Performance is unmatched and the seamless switch between the 2 bands is incredible. It is very easy to set up via the OSX on board AirPort Utility app. Once set up you can download the iOS AirPort Utility app for you iPhone, iPad or iPod.

Apple just does things right and while not flashy the AirPort line of products are unequalled.

    Amazing

    • Written by from Skokie

Don't let the bad comments fool you. This is an amazing product. I was skeptical if the airport extreme would be better than my linksys router overall. MY GOD. I'll confess that the range is essentially the same but the internet speed.......

    VERY NOTICEABLE INCREASE!!!

    Best router ever!

    • Written by from Kennewick

I LOVE this router. Have had it for two years now and have never had an issue. I cannot say enough good things about it. I got tired of having to replace my router every year so decided to invest in an AirPort, am so glad I did. Like everything else Apple, it is so low-maintenance and just figures everything out itself. No complicated installation, it literally worked itself out. Another great feature is how quickly it alerts you if you go offline. Every router I've had in the past has made it difficult to determine whether the router or the modem is the issue, the AirPort just pops right up and tells you. This product is worth every dime, you will not regret it!

    Reliability and speed

    • Written by from Lakeway

I tried 2 other brands in the $40 to $50 range. The first one needed reset daily, and the 2nd caused all sorts of delays and hang-ups using AirPlay (I couldn't get music to stream). I have AT&T U-verse or home Internet, which is supposed to be fast. I loved when I powered up the AirPlay, and connected my IPAD - It walked me through it! Now I'm pushing Pandora over Airplay, while watching Netflix, and push my home network really hard. It doesn't flinsh. I haven't played with any advanced network features and really don't care to. Nothing's more important that reliability and speed.

    Brilliant!

    • Written by from Brampton

I tried 2 Cisco routers - E4200 and E4500. They looked really cool but the speeds were highly inconsistent with both these routers. Bought the AirPort Extreme and have it for over a month now ... I absolutely love it! Setup was a breeze and the speeds are phenomenal. Highly recommended!!

    Fantastic Product

Comparing this product to other routers shows how superior it is. It never needs restarting and it has a brilliant setup interface. Can't praise this device enough.

    DIED AFTER 18 MONTHS!

    • Written by from MOUNT PLEASANT

I am a fairly tec savy person, this router took an abnormaly long amount of time to set up, especialy to print, I set up a guest network and a main network, at first I had the guest network limited to 48 hours but after it kept disconnecting (even on the main network) after a few hours. I changed it to always on, but both networks kept droping the internet after a few hours of use. I had to connect to the other network to continue my work (it only takes a matter of a minute or so to change networks, but it is anoying to always connect to a new network when the one i'm on should work.) When this router worked it worked well, and provided a fairly fast connection, and the features it has are great like wireless printing from any room in the house. But it died after only 18 months of use and at $180 is extremely over priced it is now only $160 but still too expensive so I pluged my older d-link 655 in and have not had any dropped connections so it was not my internet.

    Airport Utility limited?

    • Written by from Yarmouth

In the current version of the Airport you cannot limit the transmitter power. I'm not sure if this feature is removed from a hardware perspective; or just omitted by the newer (dumbed down?) software configuration utility (6.1).

In some of my applications, limiting the power is desired to reduce interference from multiple units. However, I don't seem to be able to do this anymore.

(There appears to be an older version of Airport Utility which can be made to run on Mountain Lion, but it appears to be a bit of work and I am unclear if this would be updated for the newer Airport Extreme base stations)

No QOS settings? An intentionally debilitated router.

    • Written by from Modesto

Even the most substandard routers available support QOS. If I want to prioritize my network traffic to favor my Mac over iOS devices, tough luck. For a company that usually goes out of the way to make sure their products are competitive, and comparable, feature-wise, with their competitors, this is disappointing. Why would you exclude something so basic to every other router currently made. Home networks connect so many different types of devices nowadays, and this makes QOS essential. After all, I really don't think my thermostat needs the same priority as my Mac or iPhone. Apple has enjoyed my business on an almost exclusive level for years now. This will cease to be the case if they cannot support basic network protocols. How hard could it be?

    Impressed

    • Written by from Irvine

I switched from the Netgear RANGEMAX series and it's a SERIOUS improvement! I literally used to drop out from the internet at least once every hour or two. So far...ZERO drop outs!!!! The range is amazing but the stability is the selling point!

The only thing that I can complain about is how it doesn't have a WPS feature that is easy to find--I had to end up using another laptop that wasn't on OSX 10.8 to install AirPort Utility 5.6 just to set up my wireless printer.

Very good, but had problems with install.

    • Written by from Macungie

I bought the AirPort Extreme because it has great reviews and was sold as easy to setup and install. I had my share of problems trying to get the thing running and finally came up with a screen that had me restart my modem which took care of the problem, but it took me over an hour to get to the point where I could test it out. I have an old laptop PC that has a built in "g" wireless set up and it works flawlessly with the AirPort Extreme. I set up my wife's older Ipod Touch and it also works great anywhere in the house. The only reason I didn't give it five stars was due to the lengthy intall time. It was worth the price and I recommend buying it if you want to have a wireless network in the house.

    Very Powerful Base Station

    • Written by from Rhinelander

I have had my Airport Extreme for over 3 years, and it is still the most powerful router I've ever had. I have had about 5 different routers in the past 2 years, and they all broke after a few months. This one still powers about 8 devices beautifully. It is a GREAT investment! Glad i bought it!

    Best Router In the World

    • Written by from Delanson

I never have a problem. We used to restart our old router. Don't have to do this. We get way better range and speed. Nobody is complaining of internet speed/ problems anymore. Apple does router right to. What else is next?
