    Best router ever!!!

    • Written by from Hunlock Creek

I recently purchased this router to replace a linksys router I have had since 2005. I recently had a bear of a time configuring the linksys router due to the fact my wifes pc had to work on an 802.11a 5ghz signal and my other mac books and ipad were using an 5ghz N network. I cant have a 2.4 ghz network due to my cordless phones. When the linksys finally took its last breath, I prepared myself for a weekend in network configuration nightmare land. I went with the airport extreme for the dual band broadcast and ports on the back-plus we have just about everything Apple. So when I settled in on Sunday expecting to be grilled on settings all day, I was pleasantly surprised to see the Apple mantra of "it just works." follow through with the Airport extreme. I swear I must have set a record with how quickly it set up 2 separate networks plus a guest network to boot in under 20 min. Awesome! Signal strength was better and speed was faster than the previous networks. Absolutely love the airport extreme and hats off to Apple again for just making it work.

    It just works!

    • Written by from IRVINE

I'm one of the "late birds" to the whole wifi world & was kind of hesitant on going wireless but after doing a lot of research I knew I wanted to stay with an Apple product, not because it's so much better of a product but just because it integrates better with what I already have.

From open box time to actually up & running took little more than 5 minutes MAX! For anyone worried about internet speeds......DON'T BE! I cannot tell the difference at all, in fact it's the same as being directly connected to my cable modem, absolutely zero speed drop off!

Yes like a lot of Apple products it's expensive for what it does but I didn't have to configure anything (or very, very little configuring) I didn't have to know or care about WPA or codes or any of the geekier stuff. Just plug & play. That's how it should be for normal everyday internet users.

    No Stereo Jack is Whack

    • Written by from West Hollywood

I think it's really stupid there is no stereo jack on the Airport Extreme. The Airport Express has been able to wirelessly play music via AirTunes from the beginning, but somehow the bigger and better Extreme loses this seemingly simple (and very much appreciated!) feature.

Disappointed and feel like I could've skipped this purchase and stuck with a couple Expresses.

    Easy Easy Easy

    • Written by from Norco

I am not technologically smart by any stretch of the imagination. I read some bad reviews about this Apple's Airport Extreme, I was very skeptical about buying it. I plugged it in and follow the print instruction and click here and there less then 10 times and I am up and running. This router is super fast. Once again apple did not fail in their product. Easiest router I have ever step with a password and all. BUY BUY BUY BUY. You will not regret it.

Wifi internet and networking at it's best!

    • Written by from Los Angeles

I purchased the Airport Extreme Base Station friday night after many months of problems with my old Linksys network router setup.

The base station is very nice looking and very easy to setup. I plugged in my Cable modem (WAN) and one ethernet cable to my desktop iMac. The setup for NAT, Wifi, Password, etc. were all very easy and straight forward. I was up and running in less than 10 minutes. Two wonderful things have happened because of this product:

    1) I discovered my cable internet speeds are in excess of 40+ Mbit/s down and 2 Mbit/s up. (With my old hardware it was 8 Mbit down/1 Mbit up).

    2) My wifi no longer drops it's connection to any of my wifi devices (Mac laptops, iPads, iPhones, etc).

I've been testing this product all weekend long by shutting down, putting devices to sleep/wake... streaming data/movies, etc. This product performs very nicely! No hiccups at all! Thank you Apple for another amazing device :) I highly recommend this product over any other wifi base station out there. Definitely worth the price.

Frequent Drops, Hangs, and LIMITED (and buggy) external USB H/D

    • Written by from Monument

Reading these glowing reviews, I'm wondering if I got a lemmon?!? What a disappointment. The router is dropping connectivity on the N side every day requiring a reboot. Also, what no one seems to tell you is that the ext USB hard drive support is only for FAT 16/32 and Mac HFS. It will not recognize a drive that is formatted EXFat or NTFS. Who uses Fat 16/32 anymore? Are you kidding me Apple? Although there are workarounds, this is CRAZY! Moreover, when I connected a HFS formatted (newer Seagate 1.5T) it too drops out several times a day. I had none of these issues with my old Linksys N-router; that baby would run for months without a hiccup, so the problem is not interferance. Speed and range are very good. This router is mindnumbingly simple to configure.

    Greatest Of All Time!!

    • Written by from HALLANDALE BEACH

I work for a computer company we distribute all brands like Cisco, Belkin, Linksys, Netgear, Buffalo, Asus etc. You name it we sell it. I've tried all of them free! The day before yesterday I tried for the millions time another router this time C-net which was by far the worst ever. My company has been trying to distribute Apple products for months but they are very picky on who gets to sell their products. That meant I had to buy it. I own lots of Apple products so I felt save paying that amount of money for an Apple product. But considering I can get any router for free! it was a big leap. To my surprise this AirPort Extreme Base Station worked like nothing I’ve seen before! I feel 1000% sure recommending it to anybody I know or don’t know. This is by far the best router in the market and well worth the price.

    Thanks,

    Life Changer

I don't write reviews but this bad boy deserves one. I live in a condo with thick walls and multiple wireless devices (2 ipads, 2 smartphones, 3 computers, xbox, and wirless smart dvd player). With my old router I could only run 2 things at once and if I wasn't in the same room as the router I was lucky to have more than one device working smoothly. This thing took 10 mins to set up and BAM...I can run all devices wireless and flawless all at once. I almost messed myself with how much it cost but it is worth every single penny plus some. I would give this 6 stars if I could.

    Incredible

    • Written by from Atlanta

Easiest setup I've ever experienced by far when it comes to dealing with a router. Literally plugged everything into it, turned it on then when upstairs to run the setup on my iMac and made about 2 mouse clicks before everything was setup and running smoothly. Took me longer to remove from box and pull off the plastic than it did to set up with my Mac.

Excellent experience setting up. Wonderful product!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    • Written by from Miami

Installation was quick, in 20 minutes I had my whole network up and running. 4 telephones, 1 PS3, 1 Xbox, 4 Laptops, 2 desktops 1 Mac Pro and a Gateway desktop, and a brothers MFC 8860dn network printer. I replaced a Dlink which served me for 3 years. However, it was dropping the signal very often. The feature I like the most is how easy it gets to update the router software. You have to be a computer wiz to make an update on other routers I have owned. The only negative is that the light from the router kept me up all night because it is too bright. I have the router in my room. I will place some tape to cover it. I had an issue with my printer not printing. However after a printer factory reset it was immediately printing from all computers. I recommend this Airport Extreme 100% you will not be disappointed.

    Flawless, Fast, Easy, Powerful

    • Written by from RICHMOND

Amazing since day one, this is one of the most powerful and most efficient routers that I have ever owned or used. Well worth the price, this amazing device has not failed me once - honest! I can't believe how fast everything is on my huge network which, to give you an idea, contains: an Xbox 360, Apple TV, Blu-Ray players streaming Netflix, two desktop computers, 3 laptops, 4 iPod Touches and an iPad. Even with ALL of those devices working at once, this device never ceases to amaze me. Highly recommended. On a side note, I am an IT Manager and know what I'm dealing with here!

    Great

    • Written by from Park city

This Router blows away the top of the line Netgear I own. We own Apple TV's, Ipod Touch, MacBooks, Ipad, Air Zepplin by B&W and every product works way faster at way farther locations. So far so great...We replaced the Netgear, because the Air Zepplin would not work at about 45 feet away. The airport extreme handles this distance and more with no problem - At least at my house...

So simple to set up. Within minutes I had a complete wireless network in my apartment. I also like the fact I was able to hook up my external HD with 955 movies right to it. Makes watching them on Apple tv so much easier. Thanks apple you all a great

I am moving to apple just off of trying this product. My wife has a Macbook pro, and we both have iPhones. I have a PC and and I was stuck on always having one. After using the AirPort Extreme I now believe apple creates the most stable products on the market. They are pricey, but I do believe I get exactly what I pay for.

Easy to set-up router with a less than cheap price.

    • Written by from Casper

I bought the unit to replace an older AirPort Express and found it as easy as the last unit to set-up. With in a matter of just a few minutes I had this item out of box, plugged in and working. I use this item to wirelessly broadcast DSL internet through my house, as well as share my laser printer with others. My only con is the not, so cheap price, as I see other routers that are less money, but I stuck with the item I knew would be easy to set-up. Also the newest version of the AirPort Utility is buggy, so until Apple provides another update I would stick to an older version.

    Get one for your iPhone

    • Written by from Mission Viejo

Purchased this for an iPhone to reduce airtime data charges on Verizon around home and wifi hotspots. This is how you want to download movies and new "apps" for your phone at home on a wifi network. You will need an ISP for an internet connection which you probably have for your computer at home.

I just purchased Airport extreme today I was skeptical that there would be any difference in wifi speed across my devices and all i can say is wow what a difference I currently have 3 mac computers 2 iPhones a iPad and apple tv set up on it all devices work extremely well at the same time with airport extreme. I noticed the biggest difference with Apple TV I used to have to a a minute or two before the movie would start not any more its instant play and the picture quality is crystal clear!!! Buy it!!!!!!!!

    Don't buy!

    • Written by from Simpsonville

A couple of months ago, my original AirPort Extreme died after five faithful years of service. I bought it when I purchased one of the first MacBook Pros, which unfortunately shipped with a "g" WiFi chip on the logic board. Because I had never had a problem with my original AirPort Extreme, I bought a new replacement: What a mistake! Although Apple claims that the AirPort extreme supports the "g" chip, I've had nothing but problems trying to maintain an Internet and mail connection. In fact, I have to re-boot the unit at least once a week! In addition, the newer AirPort Extreme forces the user to set-up a "guest account." There is no way to disconnect it. Apple would do well to try to improve the quality of its existing technologies, rather than shoving the so-called "newest and greatest" stuff down the throats of its faithful. My MacBook Pro is soon headed for the trash can because Apple is following the Microsoft-Intel strategy of making its computers obsolete by requiring greater chip and equipment requirements to run its software. Apple appears to be leaving its once faithful customers behind: A strategy that will eventually come back to haunt them.

After I bought the AirPort Extreme it just took a few minutes to set up, which was immensely intuitive and painless. Now I get very fast HD streaming and excellent range. Great product worth the money.
