only because i turned it off . Works well with iPod touch and
apple TV 2 & 3 ! Very happy with all my apple & mac toyz !!!

I thought this device had potential with the ability to share printers and drives so I decided to take chance. So far my experience has been "Extremely" disappointing. Nothing seems to work and the configuration utilities are nearly useless along with the documentation that ships in the box. Granted, I work in IT, so I will continue to mess with the configuration and get it working, but this has been a very disjointed user interface. I'm not even a fan of other competitors products such as Linksys, but so far the Linksys atleast has a decent brower-based configuration utility that is somewhat usable...

I bought the Airport Extreme in January 2012 to replace my Netgear router, which was constantly needing to be reset. After six months of using the Airport Extreme, it stopped working. No lights come on anymore, and no connection for my wireless products. I'm going to return it to the local Apple store as soon as I get a chance. I hooked up my $30 Netgear router, and thankfully it's working. I'm very disappointed in my Airport Extreme. For the money, it should last forever, not six months. P.S. My husband just returned his iPad 3 for the third time. What's happening to Apple????

It has been 3 months and running - has not had a reboot once! This is exactly what i wanted. In the past, i always bought linksys routers for my home network and always had to restart the routers occasionally - sometimes as often as 2 weeks.

With my earlier routers, the network would start to slow down as soon as i start moving data between any two systems (e.g streaming videos from server to mac etc). But with the AirPort Extreme, i have not experienced a slowdown at all.

The price was steep and contemplated quite a bit before buying it. However, now there is no looking back. The proof is in the pudding !

Apple TV = Makes it such much better to stream
iPhone - iPhone to Apple TV streaming is perfect and without flaw

This is the router you want. My last one lasted 7 years and the only reason I replaced it was to get this faster one. The 7 year old one still works and I will keep it for a back up! Thanks Apple! Another GREAT PRODUCT that kicks everything else out of the water!

Ive been with PC's networks for about 10 years now and this Airport base station is awesome it's faster and it's compatible with my PC which will be replaced soon real soon now that I have almost my whole house apple products...

I just had to replace my 3 year old Airport Extreme: it was connected to an ATT Gateway 2 wire DSL modem, and the fry appeared to happen in the Ethernet cables between the two. Not much looked too bad on the 2 wire end, but the E cable wires AND the wires inside the connection on the Airport were really fried. I can't be sure of the origin of the problem, but judging by the Ethernet cord wires, my guess is that the surge went from the 2 wire to the Airport. There had been a storm in the area that day and I heard some thunder, but left town and don't know if the storm hit stuff near me or not. However, the lesson I learned from this was to buy a good surge surpressor WITH hookup for the phone line, and one that has a product warranty to cover replacement of damaged items. On different phone line, I had a Belkin surge strip with phone plug, and it blew out the Belkin phone connection slot but protected my fax machine. So use some sort of phone line protection, in addition to the power protection. I always expected surges to come thru the electric power, not thru only the phone line as happened here.

Beyond this issue, I thought the Airport was great. I had it hooked up DSL modem to Airport, my printer into the Airport via USB, and my several computers both in my office and in my house about 50 feet away all worked great and printed into the printer. Easy to set up, no real issues except for the need of an occasional Airport hardware update, all easy to do. Everything typical Apple, easy easy easy.

the AE installed quickly and has functioned without problem for two weeks. However I attempted to activate the Time Machine function using the shared AE USB attached drive and I found out, the hard way, that Apple does not support using the AE USB drive with Time Machine. This is not a major problem since my main purpose for purchasing the AE was for routing and dependability, this I did achieve. However I would suggest that Apple alert their customers of this limitation and save us a lot of time. A simple message issued when you attempt the backup would help. Come on Apple, just a few lines of code.
