Strongest most reliable router out there!!

    • Written by from Williamstown

I recently moved to a 3 story townhouse and it works fantastic. Before our move, we used this router in a 5,000 sq ft home and it blew away ALL the competition!!

    USB Disk a Joke

    • Written by from Toronto

The router is good, as far as routers go. It's fast and easy to set up. One of the key features is the USB disk sharing which is why I bought the router. Apple products are usually superior, so I figured they would have this feature working really well on the APE

Wrong. I could write to my drive at speeds ranging from 200 KB/s to 900KB/s (the higher speed achieved after 20 minutes or so). I was expecting at least 2 - 3 MB/s write and >5MB/s read.

If you want a NAS (Network Attached Storage) router, look on CNET for some recommnedations. The speeds acheived here are useless - unable to stream media from the hard drive to any media player without constant interruptions and buffering.

I returned this after 3 days of frustration.

    Great Router

    • Written by from Montgomery

I have had this product for 4.5 years and never had a bit of trouble with it. Very easy to set-up and gives a strong signal around my home and patio. I would recommend the AirPort Extreme Base for anyone looking for a high quality router.

    Airport Extreme Base Station

    • Written by from FORT BELVOIR

I purchased this produce in hopes that I would get better network performance and less connection failures over wi-fi. I also wanted to create a private network, and since I have a lot of Apple products I thought this would be the best way to go.

And it delivered! The Airport Extreme Base Station's performance exceeded my expectation! It is definitely worth the price, not withstanding many of the other routers in it's class is priced nearly the same. If you have Apple computers, iPads, iPhones, iPod Touches in your home, or even PCs I recommend this product. It was very easy to setup, plus the Airport utility app for the iPhone, and iPad works great.

    Amazing Wireless Device

    • Written by from Elizabethtown

*I just bought the Extreme tonight and it's really worth the extra money! It was incredibly easy to set up. I have a 21.5" iMac, an older iMac, a MacBook, iPhone 4, two iPhone 3GS and an xBox to connect wired to connect to this router. Since some of the devices aren't mine, I don't want them connected to the same network as my iMac. It was incredibly easy to set up the main network as well as the Guest network.
*The best part is how much faster my internet is now. I never thought the router could make THAT big of a difference. But I was blasting through pages faster than connecting directly to the modem!
*One thing you might want to know is if you're used to seeing the multiple blinking or steady lights on the front of your previous router, there's only one light you have to watch for. I was sitting there wondering when the other lights would light up until I actually read the instruction booklet.

Nothing But Apple From Now On

    • Written by from Lucas

I struggled with Linksys and Belkin products for way too long. Yes..the Airport Extreme is more expensive.. but it took me literally under three minutes to set up. It works, and works together with all other peripherals. I live in a large three story home and the wireless performance is spectacular, far exceeding my experience with my WRT610N.

Simply stated Apple means quality, dependability and product delight.

    Awesome!! Product!!

    • Written by from Van Nuys

I originally bought a Linksys e4200v2 but it just wouldn't cut it i was never able to connect to the 5ghz band on any of my macbook pros or mac mini, and range was was not that great so I took it back to Bestbuy after 5days of trying to get the best results. I decided to pick up a the Airport extreme 5th gen and all my problems went away now all my Macs connect to the 5ghz band and I always get the best possible connection and range. I don't know why I wasted my time with the linksys!

Setup was super easy to set up.
Quality A++++ of course its a apple product.
Range a whole lot better then the linksys e4200v2.
Speed quality is always on target.

Don't waste your time with other brands you'll be disappointed.

    Junk

    • Written by from WEST VALLEY CITY

This thing is a piece of junk. The 10 year old modem/router I got free with my dsl service works better. I'm 30 ft away and my iPhone can't find it. Waste of money this was.

    Simply Put...

    • Written by from Burbank

    Phenomenal.

I own numerous devices capable of similar function, but none are as easy to use, as elegant, and as efficient as my Apple TV. Given the ability now to handle 1080p content (with mild, acceptable compression), there is no reason not to own and use this as a primary media provider for your large-format devices.

    Died after 18 months!

    • Written by from White Lake

Initially I was impressed with this router, easy setup compared to the Motorola and Netgear wireless routers I used in the past when I was running PC. Yesterday AM it just died, tried letting it cool down because it was a little warm, and plugged into the wall outlet rather than the power strip but it was just DEAD! Of course I didn't get the extended warranty so for $180 it was a $10/month rental, thx Apple I thought you didn't make junk?! Just bought a new Cisco Linksys EA4500 and all the way across the house I get 24Mbps download, unfortunately I never tested the AE before it DIED!

    Dream come true

    • Written by from New York

My building has concrete floors and plaster walls, and 150 other apts with all their junk and interference, so my wifi was ALWAYS wonky. It drove me crazy and sent me on a buying and returning spree- expensive routers, cheap routers, signal boosters, signal repeaters, antennas, antennae, etc etc. Fianlly thought to try AirPort Extreme, et voila! I now have perfect reception everywhere. I have a million devices in my place- no joke: 3 iPhones, 2 iPads, 3 computers, an apple tv, airport express, blackberry tablet thing, etc (please don't rob me). The old routers kept throwing in the towel. Now we're googling everything we can imagine, and getting flawless airplay service. Don't let me downplay the HUGE importance of this small detail I just happened to slip in at the end- its unbelievablely good now, and I was ready to cut my losses and pronounce AirPlay as for the proverbial birds.

    Horrible Range and multi-tasking

    • Written by from Glendale

AirPort Extremely slow and bad at multi tasking and horrible range! Recently made a switch from Linksys E3000 was a mistake, the E3000 handled all 5 phones and all 5 computers all through out the house no matter where you were with blazing fast speed! When we switched to the airport extreme I could barely download of watch videos on the internet in the back end of the house!!!! Dont buy if you need something with range, because this doesnt have it at all!!

    Everything works

    • Written by from HOUSTON

Replaced a 5 yr old Linksys N router with this one. I have been migrating away from M$ products and between my wife and I we have 2 iPhones, iPad2, 1 MBP, 2 Apple TV and 2 airport express. Within a few minutes I was up and running and everything connected easily. My only gripes are the 5 GHz doesn't make it to the 3rd floor of the house (router is on the 1st floor) with any regularity. Sometimes devices find it, sometimes they don't. Airport Express doesn't seem to really work as a repeater since my second floor signal is strong but 3 floor drops off quickly. I have an AE on the second and 3rd floors.

    AirPort Extreme Base Station

    • Written by from Salt Lake City

After purchasing, then returning 3 different high-end wi-fi routers, I learned about the Apple Airport Extreme. The Extreme has been better than hoped for and provides the perfect network. The other 3 routers were not compatible with OS X 7 (Lion). They did say on the outside of the boxes that they were compatible with OS X 6.5 (or later), but the install instructions all said Lion is ethernet only. Same problems with Cisco, all Comcast cable modem routers, and Lysis. The Extreme does it all, OS X Lion, iPhone, iPad, my wife's PC, everything.

Had to Go Through A Lot of Routers to Find This

    • Written by from Godley

I have been through several routers (Belkin, Cisco/Linksys, DLink) and this by far, was the best choice for me. I was put off by the price, but bit the bullet last week and got it.

I have my iMac, iPhone, Ipad, Apple TV and a HP4650 Color Laserjet printer connected to this Airport Extreme and everything works in perfect harmony.
