Sadly, this is the best dock I could find.

    • Written by from San Francisco

It would be nice to have a dock that you could just drop the iPad into, like you can with the iPhone dock. With this dock you have to angle and center the iPad just-so to have it slide onto the 30 pin connector. After using the dock for a few days I can manage that trick on the first try most of the time, but it shouldn't be so hard to do.

    extra power cord not included

    • Written by from San Diego

In the grand tradition of Apple nickel-and-diming you to death, the dock does not include a separate power cord. You have to use the one that came with your iPad2, which means if you want to leave a permanent charging, music station at home and have a portable charger (e.g. for work), you will have to buy another one. Good product, but SO annoying.

    Good weight, bad angle

    • Written by from Richmond

The dock is well made -- heavy, stable. But its angle leaves the screen too nearly vertical. It should be more sloped or, better yet, adjustable. And the next version of the iPad might want to include receptacle on side, as well as ends, to permit landscape viewing.

    Great fit

I bought the dock and expected my cover and backing would have to be removed just like any other apple docking device... I love it! I have it connected to some pc speakers and it looks great on my nightstand

    Not compatible with Smart Cover

    • Written by from Dourdain

I expected this dock from Apple to be compatible with the Smart Cover, unfortunately, it is not... You have to remove or open the cover in order to plug the iPad2 on it.

Another thing that is not well designed is that it is quite hard to find the exact place for the plug. I often look under the iPad just to find the exact place of the plug. It would be great to have a guide for it.

    Works fine but ...

    • Written by from Newtown

I'd like to see more options:
-Why not also in black or other choice of colors?
-Why not designed to accommodate the cover or case/sleeve?
-Some indicator that it has power?

Don't get me wrong, I mean nothing bad but this dock doesn't fit the "choices" offered. It is more of a "stand that does one thing", where as a dock allows easy connection/removal of a device.

    Good but not quite there

    • Written by from Groton

The angle is good and it is a good charging base for the things listed in the writeup on the product. I have one disapointment. Knowing that the Ipad requires a 10w charge rather then the typical 5w charge, they should have designed it in such a way as it could support an external power supply so it could charge the device and sync with my computer at the same time.

    yeah it works but..

    • Written by from Grevenmacher

You will not be able to fit it with your smart cover ;(. This dock doesn't come with extra cable. It did not cross my mind that it would be missing. If I would know that I just get a cable and I would be happy with it! now I need to go back to store and buy me an usb cable! They should tell me that in Apple store!!

Difficult to line up on ipad 2

    • Written by from Vancouver

Great idea and nice to have next to the bed. However you need to be careful when lining up and make sure it is actually charging. You also need to take the cover off or open it before placing it in the dock. If it was a bit wider I think it would work better.

    Dock?????

    • Written by from Gold Beach

I went for the IPad 2 with the dock and cover(blue) from the online store. If I had seen it in the store I may not have bought it. I like a fitted solid silicone cover for the back like the one I have for my iPod touch. With the back cover on the iPad 2 won't fit in the dock. I did cut off the left side of the silicone back cover so it let's the front cover work fairly well

Needs TWO 30 pin rear connections to be completely useful

    • Written by from Los Angeles

I own the dock as well, and it makes a great home for the iPad given it's lengthy charging time. Most of us have several of the 30 pin USB cables since they're interchangeable with our iPhone, iPod, etc. The cord switching and inability to simultaneous charge and sync fix could be fixed if they would put an extra 30 pin connector on the back, enabling one connection to constantly provide power while using the other to sync or use with the video sync adapter. Alternately, If anyone knows of a third party that makes a small 1-to-2 adapter that supports the power requirements, please share the source because this could be used to connect two cables and would solve our major complaint.

Allowing a bit of extra room for the cover would be a bonus, but I don't mind this as much. What I'd like to see in the software is an option to prevent it from automatically sleeping when docked so I could look at stock displays all day without having to manually turn off the timeout function.

    Great dock, poor value.

    • Written by from Ajax

The dock works exactly as described HOWEVER it should come with the sync cable and power plug... Also - you must remove the smart cover otherwise it will not fit.

NOTE: Your iPad 2 will fit perfectly in the dock if you have a skin (Zagg, SGP, Phantom Skinz, etc) on the front and/or back.

A Genius would've made the dock work with the Smart Cover?

    • Written by from Sacramento

Dock does as advertised. But I'm no genius and I could've figured out how to make these items work together!

    Nice, but won't accommodate Smartcover

    • Written by from Wellington

For what it is, it is perfectly fine. Sits nicely, and is at just the right angle for Facetime video chats. Don't like that I have to take the Smartcover off.

    iPad 2 Dock

    • Written by from Louisville

Great quality as always with Apple. Disappointed that it doesn't accommodate the magnetic iPad2 cover. Therefore, cover must be removed prior to inserting iPad2 into dock. I recommend purchasing another power cord. Much more convenient.
