    Not durable for the money

I've had a bumper on my iPhone 4 since the day I got it (early July 2010), and they're not very durable. I replaced my first one a while back when the rubber started ripping and that made the whole bumper loose. Now, a few months later and the second one is doing the same. I like the minimal profile with good protection (it's saved my iPhone a couple times!) but it's not very much material for $30, so I'd at least expect it to be high quality, durable material.

    Best Case

Ive gone through about 4 cases for my white iPhone 4s by now, and i can confidently say this is the best by far. It lets you be able to feel the glass on the back of the phone which is my fav part. It also protects it from all sides and the buttons have a great clickiness still, as they are metal.

    I highly recommend!!!

Would given a 5 if it didn't fall apart, would have given a 3 if it hadn't been free. I need another one, but $30, yeesh! I love the simplicity of it, the lack of bulk, the case doesn't detract much from the phone itself (since the "case" is also Apple). Despite it's seeming lack of coverage, it still protects well (until it falls apart), the rubber helps it stick on surfaces. Have had it for about a year now, the most crucial, and thus used, areas: the corners and the rubber on either side of the dock, have separated themselves from the rest of the bumper. Very annoying when flapping around below the home button, I ended up trimming the loose rubber. The bumper still stays on without this rubber, but it is not as well protected. The corners are the most critical, and just noticed yesterday that the are very tiny chips out of the glass on opposing corners on the back. Also, as I'm sure some people have mentioned, the metal does get scuffed, but I leave the bumper on all the time, so it isn't noticed.

    Not durable

I've had this nicely designed low-profile case for 6 weeks. I like how it fits the phone and is easy to use with the buttons and cable outlets.

However, it cracked at the bottom where the power outlet plugs in. Not really worth 30 bucks if it lasts 6 weeks.

Not sure what I'll do from here.

    Great Case!

I own this case as well as an Incase Snap Case and an Incase Slider. I find myself using my Apple Bumper the most of the 3. Love it! It looks better than the other 2 on my phone and provides the protection necessary to keep my phone in good condition.

It hasn't caused any scratches to appear on the rim either. The reason others are getting scratches on theirs is because they aren't taking good care of their phones. With any case you should periodically remove the case and clean the inside of the case, as well as the areas of the phone the case is against. Dirt/dust will get trapped in any case over time and can cause scratches if not taken care of.

Only con is that the dock opening at the bottom of the case isn't quite big enough for some of my older iPod/charging cables, but I can live with that.

    Ideal, aesthetically pleasing and protects

The bumpers are ideal for protection because they lift the surface of the phone so that the glass never touches any surface. The replicated buttons have the same feel as the original ones on the phone. The plastic is also good because it allows the phone to slide in and out of pockets and/or other compartments designed to hold phones in purses, briefcases, etc.

The bumper is perfect for people who want to retain the look and size of the original phone, yet protect their investment. If you want to be stealth, get the black; however, for those that need to find their phone quickly, choose your favorite color! Note: the type of plastic does not attract dust or animal hair as do the rubberized types of covers.

    kind of disappointing?

At first, i loved this case. the exact fit, the style, the uniqueness & the Apple made brand. It all felt smooth. And boy did it make my phone look sexy.
Then, I take off the case, only finding out that it scratched the stainless steel band. I was very ashamed. I had done the old "take it out and clean it every week" routine, but i'm guessing that didn't help. Don't get me wrong, it's an excellent case. But to make a single flexible case, only finding out that it may cause scratches & possibly, in the near future, shatter the phone if dropped wrong.. and then charging $29 for a silicone/plastic case? Now that's just crossing the line Apple. It really is.

No charger can connect to the phone using this cover, other than the one that came with the phone. This includes IPhone 3, IPod and Belkin connectors. The case blocks all of those connectors.

    Looks good, but not functional

This case looks great and if you do not connect your phone to anything then this case is perfect for you. However, if you have any 30 pin doc connectors or stereo jacks that are not Apple products (non-Apple car chargers that they sell in the Apple Store!, car audio connections, etc.) this case is not for you. The opening around the 30 pin dock connector is sized to only fit Apple USB cables (big suprise there...), so nothing else will plug into the phone without removing the case, which kind of defeats the purpose of a case...The one thing I like is that the case is small and has rubber edges so it does not slide around when you set it on things.

Bottom line is the case looks great, but if you ever plug your phone into things (non-Apple USB cables) this case will be a poor choice.

    Bumper Fiasco

    • Written by from El Portal

This was Apple's "solution" to the antenna fiasco. Well, you cannot charge the iPhone in the dock with the Bumper on; you cannot charge the iPhone in your car with the Bumper on and all this "put it on, take it off" on a daily basis wore the thing out. Yesterday, less than two months before I received my free bumper the stupid thing broke when I was removing it to charge the phone. So, an advise to Apple: make a more durable Bumper or redesign it so we don't need to strip the phone off to charge it!

    Very disappointed.

$30 for a case that falls apart

While I initially liked the minimalism of this case, it has proven to be poorly constructed. Granted, it's probably a year-a-half old, but I expected better. The rubber edges have been separating from the plastic frame over time. While I have been super-gluing the case for months, it's time to toss it. Granted, I got the bumper for free via "Antennagate" but that's no excuse for poor construction. Just wanted to provide this review for those considering wasting $30.

Needs to be updated with better materials.

To put it in brief terms, this bumper does its job, but is not durable itself. It does protect the phone from falls (I dropped my phone in a parking lot once and it even SLID underneath another car....not once scratch on the iPhone itself!). Those who complain about the phone being scratched by the bumper should practice taking the phone out of it every night or so just to wipe any dust particles off of it. That being said, this will eventually lead to the bumper's hard plastic area around the 30-pin adapter to tear, ripping the soft rubber with it. I've had the bumper since October '11, and it started to tear like that maybe a month and a half ago (middle of February).

Apple needs to make a more durable hard plastic that can withstand the tension of being removed and put back on constantly. While keeping the price intact (that way maybe the value will actually match that steep $30 price point).

This item is horrible. I've had it for a little over 4 months and it is coming apart. It cost too much to last this little amount of time. I'll never purchase this again.

    Very Poor Design

This item does fit and looks nice. It also provides good protection for you iPhone4 however it does come with a lot of other issues.

    For Example:
    - Ear phone jack hole is so small to fit most mini jacks. Only works with the iPhone ear buds.
    - Bottom charging / sync plug is very small and will not work with old style or after-market parts.
    - Hard plastic portion of the bumper is very fragile around the bottom and will soon crack after several install / removals.

Beware! Apple does not cover any physical damage so they will not replace the item if it breaks while you try to stretch it on an off!

I bought a iPhone 4S last year and also purchased the black bumper which worked fine. It finally wore out, so, I went to the Apple store to get another thinking it would be the same. I tossed the old one in the trash. A few days having the new one, I too noticed it was turning on & off my phone with the slightest bump or touch. This was running my battery down significantly. Thinking it was just a bad bumper, I took it back to the store, showed the employee the issue, & he agreed and gave me a new one. Before leaving the store, I tried the new one on, & it was the same way. We were both dumbfounded. It seems that this new bumper is made differently, and has a longer rigid piece of plastic throughout the top where the power/sleep button is. And therefore, pushes on the top button in close proximity. They are all like this! Someone at Apple should look into this issue.

Great, but must be paired with other protection

The Apple iPhone bumper does a great job doing what its meant to do. It protects the sides of the phone while keeping the volume buttons and lock button in tact (and keeping them metal to boot). The bumper fits excellently around the phone, better than any case on the market. Every port is perfectly wrapped, even the connector at the bottom is protected without effecting the ports usability. The key with this is that it is not a case nor does it claim to be, if you want greater protection look for something else! I wanted something minimalist that would not add to iPhone's bulk. This did the trick, when used in addition to front and back screen protectors this bumper will protect the phone from scratches and other wear and tear. It will also protect the front and back of the phone when set on flat surfaces. I only gave it a four star rating because after extended use the metal edges of my phone have some wear and tear even though the case was never taken off. Still a great product none the less.

I like the fit of the bumper and it does do a good job of protecting the phone, but it has several major flaws:

The rubber starts to separate from the plastic frame over time.
The opening for a 30-pin usb connector on the bottom does not fit all of Apple's own cables, let alone third party cables. Even the new Apple Digital AV Adapter cannot be used with the bumper on.
Same goes for most docks and speakers with built-in docks. You have to take the bumper off.
Which brings me to my last point, the bumper wasn't really designed to be taken on and off repeatedly.
