Causes indelible scratches to the edges

This bumper case causes seemingly permanent scratches on the edges of the iPhone4. However, I haven't seen any case that retains the iPhone design like this one does. If you can live with the scratches, all well and good. I recommend you remove the case frequently for cleaning together with the iPhone. I just think it's annoying that the case made by Apple causes this sort of wear on the phone.

I read the reviews about the bumper scratching the steel band, so just to protect it i double wrapped the band with tape and then put on my bumper, looks amazing, and along with my invisishield my phone is completely scratch proof :)

    Protects Well

It protects my screen from scratches well, I have inspected it closely and cannot find any. It also prevents those dreaded reception problems when you hold the phone at all. I have to take it off to put the iPhone on its dock, but that's not that hard to do. I've also noticed that the inner lining has been scratching the metal of the phone, as other reviewers have pointed out, but it's not that noticeable.

A great accessory for your iPhone 4

So far, this is the best case for my iPhone 4. Only complain is that the bumper's fit could be tighter.

To solve the issue about scratches on your iPhone 4's sides, remember to take off your bumper once in a while and give both your iPhone 4 and bumper a nice clean up. And always remember to wipe your iPhone 4 clean every time, so no dust particles could get inside the bumper case, thus preventing your iPhone 4 to get scratches on the stainless steel band. Hope this helps for most of you.

I had it for about 3 months and i am not complaining about anything since its pretty good. I saw some comments earlier about scratches and black spots but so far i have not seen any black spots, marks or scratches on the stainless steel on my iPhone 4. While it does need some modifying, I think its a good product, except for the fact that it costs a lot. The bumper does need some modifying. I think that the case should cover the back of the phone to protect it but of course i dont think Apple would bother to mod it :P

    Overpriced

Being that this case of made of plastic and a little rubber, $30 is about 300x the price that it should be. That being said, the bumper does do what it is intended to do... namely prevent that signal loss issue and protect your phone if it drops on a smooth surface.

I like that it looks good on the phone and doesn't add much weight or bulk, though the fact that my case is ripping after three months of use is inexcusable. I only take my phone out to clean the surface every couple of days and sometimes to plug my car adapter into it, as the hole for the head jack ONLY fits the apple earbud, so I'm really surprised at the shotty craftsmanship of a case Apple designed and decided to charge $30 for.

The Perfect Case for my iPhone 4!

I read a few of the early reviews with great interest - and want to put my 2 cents in. Now, that's more than I paid for my bumper because of the giveaway program, but I beg to differ with those who do not like this case!

I have had my bumper since August when the first round of freebies were sent out. I take it off and put it back on the phone all the time, because I have one of those XM Skydocks - and you have to remove the case to put the phone into the cradle only drawback!). I have never had a scratch on the metal band. It's easy to take off (best to start on the top left by the HP jack!) and replace.

I also love it because it shows off the phone nicely - which also doesnt scratch - and is perfect for lying on a table without getting it dirty, etc. The bumper lifts the phone off just the right amount so it sits up off a table or dashboard, and never slips.
Awesome case - would keep writing but I can't have more than 300 words!

I'm very disappointed that the case has already become warped and split. To the right of the headphone jack next to the hard plastic the case has become stretched. On the bottom below the dock connector there is a split in the rubber.

Looks good... until it falls apart.

I've had a bumper on my phone from release date, the first one lasted roughly three weeks before falling to pieces- quite literally. Chunks of rubber fell off from around the edges and detached from the plastic surrounding the aluminum. I've tried a number of other cases and I like the feel of the bumper best, which is why I keep buying replacements (I've bought seven so far). If it was more durable I'd happily give it 5-stars, but it's kind of an expensive bi-monthly habit.

FYI: the "scratches" it leaves on the aluminum rub off once the case has been removed for a couple hours.

May or may not be worth the money

The case was great the first couple of days using it, then the color started to fade and then I dropped it and it still broke my screen so its up to you whether or not you want this case. ( It only put a couple of scratches on the screen ). Otherwise, it is a good case. Doesn't fall off and doesn't lose its shape. Doesn't affect it's shape which is nice but may crack at the bottom. In the end, its still your choice.

Just get a full body protector

Alright so starting out I have had this case for about 5 months...

I just have a question for the people that bought this case, do any of you do the research on what you buy?? It seems like every review was about the scratches on te side of your iPhone. If you would have read those reviews you would have done one of 2 things, don't get the case or get a full body screen protector, like I did, and not have to ever worry about the sides. I am not about to take the side screen protectors off and test the bumper because I know there is that chance it will scratch, but why did you buy it knowing that. I know they sell them in stores and you can't read a review, but let's be honest we are taking about the iPhone 4 here I am sure that you didn't just grab a case of the shelf I would jape that you looked around for the one that fit your personality. I am just saying if you know that the case is you going to mess your phone up. Then take the steps to solve the problem I personal think that this the by far the best case I have used and I have shooed around and keep coming back to the bumper.

    IMPORTANT PART
te case is good provides protection if the right steps are taken ( buy a full body shield, to protect the sides from possible scratches) and gives the IPhone the top dollar feel that you want from and Apple product. All in all I will alway use the bumper to protect my IPhone the sexy look can not be passed up, just make sure to buy a full body screen protector.

    HORRIBLE!

Overall it doesn't protect your iphone! Scratches the metal side walls!!!! Even if people think "Plastic and Rubber are not > Glass and Steel, therefore it doesn't scratch" tons of junk easily are getting in between the case and the phone such as sand. So it renders the case useless from its original goal: protection. Its only effective if you have a full body screen protection along with the bumper, otherwise it is a horrible case. Furthermore, it tends to break easily -__-)

The bumper is really cool by concept and the location of the buttons are a perfect extension from the iphone; it offers minimal protection however and is even abrasive to the aluminum located on the outer rim of the iphone itself. Initially it snugly fits onto the iphone and feel like it was "made for it", but after just a few months of typical pocket wear - you'll find that the rubber is too soft and flimsy and will fall off the frame of the bumper. I'm glad the bumper was free or I would currently be very upset.

Great for a free case, but....

I got the case for free so I shouldn't complain, but I hold Apple to a higher standard then most companies. This product does not hold up to the Apple name. After about 8 months the rubber is pulling away from the plastic and the case will not grip the phone properly. I am glad I didn't pay for this case and never would.

I have used my black bumper for a year now. Great case. Period. The edges provide a grippy surface so the phone won't slip out of your hand, it fits the phone perfectly, is the only case I've seen with metal buttons, and it is thin. The glass surfaces on the iphone4 are very durable against scratches and I have none. The case suspends the back off the table when you set it down and the two-shot rubber construction keeps it from sliding off the table. I got a Spek "rubber" case free from Apple and promptly took it off - clunky and slippery by comparison and harder to get out of my pocket than with the Apple bumper. Can you tell I like the case? I got a new Verizon iPhone for my wife and she loves the pink bumper too.

I have used a bumper since getting my iPhone 4 in July. I take it off occasionally to mount the iPhone in a TomTom Car Kit, but otherwise leave it on. I have not seen any scratches on the metal band on the iPhone at all, as some have reported. The bumper has the additional advantage, which I have not seen others mention, of making the iPhone easier to hold onto. I bought it right after buying the iPhone because the glass-and-metal phone seemed slippery and I was concerned about it sliding out of my hand as I typed.

The only issue is that some audio cables do not fit through the hole, as mentioned by many reviewers. I had that problem with one cable but easily solved it by filing down the plastic plug on the cable until it did fit. It only took a minute or two to do that and was not really a problem.

I just bought a second bumper for a change of pace (different color) and because the original bumper was getting a little scratched up by keys in my pocket, although it is still perfectly useable. Interesting that those keys have not scratched the exposed glass of the iPhone, front or rear, at all!

I loved the case when I got it, Fits great in your hand. I have been using it for a few months, and now I have skuff marks under the case on the band. Not coming off.
    I would avoid this case.
