    Better in the beginning.

    • Written by from Louisville

The bumper is really cool by concept and the location of the buttons are a perfect extension from the iphone; it offers minimal protection however and is even abrasive to the aluminum located on the outer rim of the iphone itself. Initially it snugly fits onto the iphone and feel like it was "made for it", but after just a few months of typical pocket wear - you'll find that the rubber is too soft and flimsy and will fall off the frame of the bumper. I'm glad the bumper was free or I would currently be very upset.

    Just what I wanted BUT...

    • Written by from Cincinnati

The iPhone Black Bumper was just what I wanted: protection around the perimeter of the phone AND keeps the phone front or back elevated when iPhone is placed on a desktop or table. BUT the headphone jack opening is too narrow to permit full insertion of standard size headphone jacks. You'll need an adapter.

    kind of disappointing?

    • Written by from Yuma

At first, i loved this case. the exact fit, the style, the uniqueness & the Apple made brand. It all felt smooth. And boy did it make my phone look sexy.
Then, I take off the case, only finding out that it scratched the stainless steel band. I was very ashamed. I had done the old "take it out and clean it every week" routine, but i'm guessing that didn't help. Don't get me wrong, it's an excellent case. But to make a single flexible case, only finding out that it may cause scratches & possibly, in the near future, shatter the phone if dropped wrong.. and then charging $29 for a silicone/plastic case? Now that's just crossing the line Apple. It really is.

    I like it

    • Written by from Ellensburg

When it's new it's good. After a while (6 months) it does wear out and will eventually scratch the antenna edges. Very pricy for what it is but I still like it more that anything else out there. For example I need a new one now and struggling to find one I like as much. For those worried about the back not being protected I wouldn't worry about it. I put the phone in my pocket with keys and the surface of the phone has never scratched. Apple really did a nice job designing this phone to be scratch resistant.

    Good use, bad design

    • Written by from Skien

This case is actually quite a lot bether than i expected. But I must say, Apple has a way of overpricing small, "cheap" products.

Even though this case may seem a little bit too expensive, after all, it's just "a little piece of plastic". But, they make a product that does exactly what its made for. And it does it incredibly good, too. The Bumper doesn't cover the screen, neither does it stick remarkebly out of the two beautiful sides of the iphone. It is obviosly made to protect the iPhone from beeing damaged, and I haven't yet experienced any damage, after hitting the ground at least 30 times. Its quite easy to understand why, the Bumper is simply a "bumper". I won't say it reduces the impact, I would rather say that the rubber (don't know if it's correct, but if not so; the plastic) makes it kind of bounce, so that it won't get that big strain it gets when it normally hits the ground.

But then its this thing called design. That Apple has proved they are among the best in the world at. This, one company, has actually made a lot of people forget what bad design looked like, I think.
    Well, here's your wake-up call.
I'm sad to say it, but this product surely didn't live up to my expectations, this is not Apple standard, as we're used to. When you unpack the thing, it doesn't look to bad. But when you put it on, your iPhone becomes thick, with soft, round edges. Just like it's just put on some extra pounds.
Another thing that is actually a "problem", is that the silence-button is hard to reach, espesially if you have short nails. I won't go on with a lot of details, but the Bumper will stretch a little bit after you've taken the Bumper on and off a number of times. But, back to the design.

What's really the main problem, is the fact that it is covering the shiny, sharp edges of the phone. It (the sides and edges) is a huge factor of making the iPhone design so beautiful. This is not the problem by itself, but I just don't think the Bumper's design is any good, compared to the original iPhone design, and I think the Bumper ruins the perfection and brilliance of it.
Keep in mind that I have the black Bumper.

So basicly, the iPhone 4 Bumber does exactly what its made for, and good.
It just don't do anything else.

If you'd take my advice, buy another case, or don't buy one at all. Or at least buy one with bether design then this
    But don't get me wrong.
The Bumper Is placed around the corners of my iPhone.
But only because it was free.

Love this bumper! disappointed that it scratched my steel band.

    • Written by from Barrie

I loved the way this bumper fit my phone and how it made my iphone more comfortable to type on in landscape but one thing I did not like after putting it on and off twice with a 2 week period the hard plastic ring inside the bumper gouged my steel band up. That made me very angry as I just bought the phone. This bumper did not do anything for reception or anything not like that mattered as I never experienced bad reception before or any dropped calls. I bought this bumper to protect the steel band but it did the opposite. I would like to see apple redesign this bumper without the hard plastic reinforcement band that is in the inside of the bumper.

    Works Great (for a while)

    • Written by from Carson

I got the bumper when I bought my phone in October. Three months later, after pulling my phone in and out of my pocket, the rubber started falling apart, and there were scratches on the metal part of my phone (where the bumper is suppost to protect it). I would like to say that it actually does protect your phone when you drop it (besides the scratches).

    Could be better

    • Written by from CHICAGO

    The good:
    - Stylish and minimal
    -Feels nice in your hand
    - Easy access to buttons

    The bad:
    - Hard to fit third-party headphones into jack
    - Hard to access silent switch
    - Spotty compatibility with third party dock accessories, and Apple's own iPhone/ iPod cables from previous revisions - why?!
    - After having to take the case off to charge with older cables and put back on afterwards, the rubber edges have become much looser and are fraying a bit.

Overall, I still like the case, as it's one of the most comfortable I've tried... but these drawbacks leave me wanting more.

Okay for normal use, but scratches phone's sides

    • Written by from CENTERTON

I bought this case last July after I had my iPhone for about a month without a case. I liked how it had little bulk and thickness, because I didn't want to buy a huge case that would hide the iPhone 4's sleek design. It's easy to fit almost any headphones or audio cords into the audio jack; the top headphone hole is rubber, therefore it can stretch somewhat around larger cords, but the USB connector hole is tailored to the newer, slimmer Apple cords only. I dropped my phone a few times with the Bumper on and had no damage to the phone itself and only a few minor scratches to the Bumper.

HOWEVER, after about four months of owning this case, I started to notice that it does in fact scratch the stainless steel antenna of the iPhone. It wasn't very noticeable, but it still bothered me enough to stop using the case. So instead of continuing to allow the case to damage the sides of my phone, I opted for Griffin's version of the Bumper, the Griffin Reveal Frame. It's pretty much the same type of case, costing the same as the official Apple Bumper, but with a cooler looking design (in my opinion) and an overall tighter fit around the phone.

In my perspective, if you want a simple, minimalist case and you don't care if it will scratch the metal sides of your iPhone, get a Bumper.

Works well and keeps phone from slipping out of your hands. The problem is that mine cracked and fell apart after 4 months of daily use. Plastic near charging port is weak. Not very durable.

Great looking and protective, but not strong

    • Written by from Tampa

When I bought the iPhone bumper, I was nervous it wouldn't protect my whole iPhone. I was happy to know that I was wrong. The bumper protected my phone just as well if not better than other phone cases. It also let me see the sleek look of the phone that I really like. I didn't have any problems keeping my phone safe from shattering or anything like that. The case always kept my iPhone away from anything that could break or scratch it. It worked great...while I had it. There are only two problems with the bumper. First of all, if you ever plan on taking the bumper off your iPhone, expect to see some unrepairable scuff marks on the metal band. Also, surrounding the head phone jack is a different material. There's rubber, probably to keep you head phones from scratching when plugging them in. The only problem with this feature is that the rubber is not at all reinforced. I am pretty rough on my phone and drop it pretty often. The case was great protecting it from falls and scratches, but the bumper didn't hold up very long. The rubber section tore off the case and now it won't stay on my phone. I'm hoping I'll be able to exchange my bumper at the apple store for a new one for free because of this problem.

Ideal for the minimalist, IF your connectors fit

    • Written by from Leawood

First, charging $30 for a piece of rubber should be a felony. That out of the way, this is the ideal "case" for those who like to travel light (i.e. me). I wanted a case that would keep the iPhone glass off [wet] surfaces and offer enough grip to prevent drops while not having too much grip to slide into a pocket. I have dropped the phone with no resulting damage, but those who are in the habit of playing catch with their phones should probably opt for something more substantial.

Major complaint: The openings are too small for many older and (surprise, surprise!) non-proprietary connectors, meaning I have to take the case off if I want to plug my phone into my car's iPod adapter. This is just wrong, cheap, fraudulent, underhanded, etc. Apple, if you want other companies to support your product, you have to learn how to play nice.

Best Fitting and looking cover out there but materials are a bit rubbish and it grossly over priced....€15 would be fair.

Invest i a bottle of superglue as the rubber and the plastic separate after a few months.

Stainless steel bands will be safe; not the front or back.

    • Written by from san clemente

Now the reason why i gave this a 3/5 stars is because its not a bad case. It does protect your iPhone 4. People seem to think that if they have a case on their device that its suppose to fix all there problems. Wrong. I have a invisible shield and a ifrogz luxe lean case. Thats the ultimate coverage. Protects the sides, back, and front. Now with this case its a different story.. Only protects the stainless steel band. Thats one of the cons, the other is that it streches over time if you switch out your cases a lot.. The pros is it doesnt add bulk to your iPhone 4 at all. I use this case when i get bored with my other ones. Now i do wish apple maybe could have added a clear back or some design to it to spice it up a little and even protect the back at least.

    Looks good, but not functional

    • Written by from Baton Rouge

This case looks great and if you do not connect your phone to anything then this case is perfect for you. However, if you have any 30 pin doc connectors or stereo jacks that are not Apple products (non-Apple car chargers that they sell in the Apple Store!, car audio connections, etc.) this case is not for you. The opening around the 30 pin dock connector is sized to only fit Apple USB cables (big suprise there...), so nothing else will plug into the phone without removing the case, which kind of defeats the purpose of a case...The one thing I like is that the case is small and has rubber edges so it does not slide around when you set it on things.

Bottom line is the case looks great, but if you ever plug your phone into things (non-Apple USB cables) this case will be a poor choice.

    Nice Accessory

    • Written by from Calhoun

Pros: Looks great, keeps the phone thin instead of bulky, protected my phone from all the times I dropped it, solves the antenna issue
Cons: My AUX and Car charger will not fit, the colors are too girly (bright green, bright blue, bright pink, bright orange) or boring (white and black).

    Case disintegrating

    • Written by from Miramar

I love the case but after a few months use I saw the right upper side of the cases' rubber peeling off. If I rub it with my finger it peels off the rubber. I can also just take large chunks off the rubber with ease. It looks like it is disintegrating somehow.
