    Cables don't fit!

    • Written by from ANCHORAGE

The bumper is beautiful and fits the PHONE well. As far as appearances and weight, it looks nicer and is much less bulky than other non-Apple options. Problem is, the rubber surrounding the charging port and the headphone jack is too thick to use any cables. So everytime I want to connect it to my car, I've got to remove the bumper. Then when someone calls, I've got to put the bumper back on the phone so that it won't drop the calls. The iPhone 4 was the first Apple product I was ever disappointed with and it appears that they are going to continue the same theme with their accessories for that product. Terribly disappointed with this item.

    Good But...

    • Written by from Belleville

I really like the way that the black bumper makes the phone look sleek and stealth like. The details are very well executed, the matte rubber of the material on the top and bottom of the bumper transitions seamlessly into the gloss plastic of the outside of the bumper.

The details on the buttons are well executed, and suite the design of the iPhone percectly. The bumper keeps the top and bottom to the phone away from making direct contact from surfaces when laid flat.

The problem with the iPhone bumper is that if any pocket debris becomes lodged between the bumper and the metal 'don't hold it like that' antenna with its beautiful matte finish, the offending debris will deform the surface and make a shiny spot on the surface of the metal.

My solution is to affix pinstripe tape to the metal before installing the bumper.

Looks, feels great, scratches iPhone, short case life.

    • Written by from Decatur

But I still gave it four stars. Why?

The good: It looks great. Beautiful Apple styling. The rubber feels great in your hand and is very grippy, saving me from dropping it many times. This case goes well with the iPhone 4 and the good generates most of the four stars.

The bad: The case has left a lot of little rubbing created scratches on my iPhone. Also, the case wore out in nine months. The rubber began to separate down near the dock connector and the case became loose fitting overall. I took my iPhone to the Genius Bar last week, and they seemed 'unconcerned' about the scratches on the iPhone, but they did replace my Bumper with a brand new one. 1 year warranty, take advantage. The Genius I talked to denied it was under warranty, but I pressed him to look at the warranty online, and a more senior Genius confirmed that it was under warranty.

They gave me the AT&T/Verizon version of the Bumper and it 'seems' to be made a bit better. The hole where the dock connector fits is Bigger, so more cables and accessories will fit. But I still expect it to scratch the iPhone.

Back to the good: Again, it looks great, feels Fantastic in your hand, and I believe the rubber edges have saved me from many drops. If you set it on a angled surface it will not slide off. You can lean it up against things on your desk and it will not slide. It's minimal, it's Apple, I still like it a lot.

Looks great, feels great, works great

    • Written by from Camarillo

I recently bought the black bumper for my Verizon iPhone 4. The nice thing about the black Bumper is that it (1) doesn't stain and (2) it has a grippy rubber around the top and bottom, which is really nice so it doesn't slide around. But I was concerned about the small opening on the top for non-Apple headphones. Surprisingly, the small opening worked great for my Beats headphones, even though they have a right-angled jack.

Overall, this product has been better that what I expected. Apple did a great job designing this case to complement their amazing device.

    Will Scratch Your iPhone

    • Written by from Kennesaw

I went without a case on my first iPhone 4 for almost a year and managed to avoid scratching it. I had to return it to the Apple store because the camera flash was failing on it. I thought maybe going unprotected gave it too many jolts and bumps so I decided to use the bumper case on my new replacement iPhone. I took the bumper off recently and examined my iPhone to find that the rough plastic edges on the inside of the bumper had scratched the metal on the frame of my iPhone in three or four areas. I would have been better off with no case. If you choose to use the bumper, avoid taking it on and off on a regular basis as this increases the chances your phone will get scratched by the case.

    Not impressed

    • Written by from Ajax

Overall, great look and feel (especially in white) but it isn't a very good case. It doesn't fit my Bose In-ear headphones because the hole is too small. The only headphones I that seem to fit for me are my Bose On-ear and the Apple pair that came with it.

Another thing, the case doesn't fit tight. So when you squeeze your iPhone when you hold it you can feel the case move which makes the case (and my phone for that matter) feel very cheap.

So two stars because it looks great and provides the protection needed (from damage and death grip) but it doesn't fit most headphones and feels cheap.

    Ok, but scratches your phone!

    • Written by from Martinez

I had hoped that when Apple made a case for the iphone, it wouldn't have the problems other cases have had in the past. Not so! Car auxiliary jacks can't fit...also, some older iPod USB's won't fit. Thus, I have to take the case on and off frequently and I can't use previous accessories. This soon leads to scratching of the metal antennae. Also, the rubber is starting to tear away from the bottom, and the hard plastic frame has cracked in 2 places. I have not been rough on this case, but it's pretty wimpy! It has kept my iPhone safe on a few falls on carpet and berber, but that's about it.

It made me write a review

    • Written by from Parkersburg

This is the first review I have EVER done on a product. I just bought this Friday night because I wanted something very slim, sleek, and simple. The only reason I didnt go 5 starts is because I cant turn the vibrate on/off with one hand, I had to sneak my finger in to do so.
This morning I pulled my jeans out from my gym bag and my wallet and phone went flying...I heard the phone hit the CONCRETE FLOOR and thought it was over. I picked my phone up and there was NO damage to it. The bumper paid for itself in less than 24hours.

    Worthless..

    • Written by from Rock Island

While this case fits well and I thin it looks nice it offers zero protection to your device if you drop it. My iPhone 4 fell 3 feet and the glass shattered. Strongly recommend you look elsewhere if you want to protect your phone.

    sleek

    • Written by from Fairfax

I have almost every color Apple bumper. I've never had ANY problem with it scratching my phone or scratching other materials. Protects like nobody's business, i.e. dropped my iPhone 4 GSM several times & each time it's kept it in perfect condition. Amazing how just this bumper protects the phone & makes it easier to hold. I don't want a lot of bulk with my phone cover & this is perfect for my back pocket or small purse.

    Ideal, aesthetically pleasing and protects

    • Written by from Mesquite

The bumpers are ideal for protection because they lift the surface of the phone so that the glass never touches any surface. The replicated buttons have the same feel as the original ones on the phone. The plastic is also good because it allows the phone to slide in and out of pockets and/or other compartments designed to hold phones in purses, briefcases, etc.

The bumper is perfect for people who want to retain the look and size of the original phone, yet protect their investment. If you want to be stealth, get the black; however, for those that need to find their phone quickly, choose your favorite color! Note: the type of plastic does not attract dust or animal hair as do the rubberized types of covers.

    kind of disappointing?

    • Written by from Yuma

At first, i loved this case. the exact fit, the style, the uniqueness & the Apple made brand. It all felt smooth. And boy did it make my phone look sexy.
Then, I take off the case, only finding out that it scratched the stainless steel band. I was very ashamed. I had done the old "take it out and clean it every week" routine, but i'm guessing that didn't help. Don't get me wrong, it's an excellent case. But to make a single flexible case, only finding out that it may cause scratches & possibly, in the near future, shatter the phone if dropped wrong.. and then charging $29 for a silicone/plastic case? Now that's just crossing the line Apple. It really is.

Causes indelible scratches to the edges

    • Written by from New Haven

This bumper case causes seemingly permanent scratches on the edges of the iPhone4. However, I haven't seen any case that retains the iPhone design like this one does. If you can live with the scratches, all well and good. I recommend you remove the case frequently for cleaning together with the iPhone. I just think it's annoying that the case made by Apple causes this sort of wear on the phone.

    disappointed

    • Written by

I loved this bumper when it fits my iphone at the first beginning, and I love the simple design as well...
unfortunately, after it sticked with my iphone for quite a long while, I've found the buttons and the border has been scratched by the bumper buttons when i took it off!!!
the hard plastic buttons on bumper look like fitting very well, but actually they scratched the border and buttons on my iphone as my daily use!!
OMG! why do i need a bumper as it scratches my iphone by itself!!
I'd love to buy other colorful bumpers before i have found this! I will not put the bumper on my Iphone anymore! so disappointed on the design!!
check your phone if you are using bumper as well as me!

    Look nice but no dice

    • Written by from AZUSA

Listen to me very closely do not buy this case. I got it for free from apple to prevent the death grip. I got the 32 gig. I wanted to protect it and at the same time have something stylish. Who knows the phone better than apple? Answer: apple. I put the bumper on my phone and it looked very nice and stylish. Just what I wanted. Well the nightmare started 7 months later when I removed the bumper. My phone was ruined the whole stainless steel antenna had some type of scratches or imperfection it didn't look pretty at all. I called apple they scheduled me an appointment with genius bar. On Mac forum it states that apple will replace the unit. I am crossing my fingers. My wife and I both got the phones at the same time. Her phone looks just like new. She was smart. She got the bumper but never put it on. The bumper should be removed from the shelves. Don't buy it. You will be sorry. Don't take it even if it's for FREE!!!

    I like it

    • Written by from Ellensburg

When it's new it's good. After a while (6 months) it does wear out and will eventually scratch the antenna edges. Very pricy for what it is but I still like it more that anything else out there. For example I need a new one now and struggling to find one I like as much. For those worried about the back not being protected I wouldn't worry about it. I put the phone in my pocket with keys and the surface of the phone has never scratched. Apple really did a nice job designing this phone to be scratch resistant.

    Simple and the Best

    • Written by from Novi

I have used my black bumper for a year now. Great case. Period. The edges provide a grippy surface so the phone won't slip out of your hand, it fits the phone perfectly, is the only case I've seen with metal buttons, and it is thin. The glass surfaces on the iphone4 are very durable against scratches and I have none. The case suspends the back off the table when you set it down and the two-shot rubber construction keeps it from sliding off the table. I got a Spek "rubber" case free from Apple and promptly took it off - clunky and slippery by comparison and harder to get out of my pocket than with the Apple bumper. Can you tell I like the case? I got a new Verizon iPhone for my wife and she loves the pink bumper too.

    Good use, bad design

    • Written by from Skien

This case is actually quite a lot bether than i expected. But I must say, Apple has a way of overpricing small, "cheap" products.

Even though this case may seem a little bit too expensive, after all, it's just "a little piece of plastic". But, they make a product that does exactly what its made for. And it does it incredibly good, too. The Bumper doesn't cover the screen, neither does it stick remarkebly out of the two beautiful sides of the iphone. It is obviosly made to protect the iPhone from beeing damaged, and I haven't yet experienced any damage, after hitting the ground at least 30 times. Its quite easy to understand why, the Bumper is simply a "bumper". I won't say it reduces the impact, I would rather say that the rubber (don't know if it's correct, but if not so; the plastic) makes it kind of bounce, so that it won't get that big strain it gets when it normally hits the ground.

But then its this thing called design. That Apple has proved they are among the best in the world at. This, one company, has actually made a lot of people forget what bad design looked like, I think.
    Well, here's your wake-up call.
I'm sad to say it, but this product surely didn't live up to my expectations, this is not Apple standard, as we're used to. When you unpack the thing, it doesn't look to bad. But when you put it on, your iPhone becomes thick, with soft, round edges. Just like it's just put on some extra pounds.
Another thing that is actually a "problem", is that the silence-button is hard to reach, espesially if you have short nails. I won't go on with a lot of details, but the Bumper will stretch a little bit after you've taken the Bumper on and off a number of times. But, back to the design.

What's really the main problem, is the fact that it is covering the shiny, sharp edges of the phone. It (the sides and edges) is a huge factor of making the iPhone design so beautiful. This is not the problem by itself, but I just don't think the Bumper's design is any good, compared to the original iPhone design, and I think the Bumper ruins the perfection and brilliance of it.
Keep in mind that I have the black Bumper.

So basicly, the iPhone 4 Bumber does exactly what its made for, and good.
It just don't do anything else.

If you'd take my advice, buy another case, or don't buy one at all. Or at least buy one with bether design then this
    But don't get me wrong.
The Bumper Is placed around the corners of my iPhone.
But only because it was free.
