    Bad charger

    • Written by from New York

My Macbook air just turned a year old and my warranty is also over. Charger stopped working. It's def. a poor quality charger. Should be a better quality charger, considering the price of the computer and the cost of replacing the charger!!

    HORRIBLE TOTAL DISAPPOINTMENT

    • Written by from River Vale

This is the second time I think I'm going to have to replace my charger. It really doesn't get much abuse. About 5 minutes ago I tried to charge my laptop and I realized the light wasn't going on so I tried it in 3 other outlets and it wouldn't work.

I'm a 14 year old girl who can't afford to pay $80 every time this garbage charger breaks on me, and whose parent's certainly don't want to have to pay either.

Apple I wish you would read these reviews and start working on a better charger and a cheaper one too. This is absolutely ridiculous I can't express my disappointment enough.

Wish I could give it zero stars.

    • Written by from Aberdeen

My children both have Macbook Airs. Between them, four chargers have frayed (same place every time) and stopped working in less than 18 months. They cost nearly 90 euro to replace every time, as we now live in the Netherlands (for a charging cable, that's extortionate), and thus, when my daughter goes to University this year, we are buying a non Apple laptop for her, solely because of this problem. She won't be able to afford to replace cables at this rate on a student loan. Apple should be addressing the poor quality and the pricing of this cable. Hugely disappointed.

Starting to fail, just past warranty

    • Written by from Philadelphia

My 45w magsafe power adapter is starting to fail. Spotty performance and will only charge at all if the machine is shut down. I've had the computer just over a year.

I gave the thing 1 star because I really don't think an adapter should ever fail, except in rare cases, but there are more than 200 reviews here with the same or similar complaint.

And the $80 price tag to replace it is insult added to injury.

This isn't right, Apple. You should replace this cord for free.

    Otherwise love my 11" air.

    Poor quality

    • Written by from Greenville

I had to give it 1 star but I really wanted 0. My MacBook Air Adapter only lasted 2 months...but it worked intermittently. So, I could not replace it. If a new adapter will likely do the same, what can I do about this? Is there anything being done by "Apple" about this poor quality product? I can "intermittently" use my computer.

Magsafe Power Adaptor - Macbook air

    • Written by from Arvada

Had written a prior review about this adaptor which started to work only intermittently. Would not work when it was cold. Brought it to the Apple Store and after diagnostic run, they replaced it with a new one - no baloney. Of course, I was only 8 months into my warranty. Never the less - I was impressed with Apple's service. So I won't necessarily go back to the dark side (pc's) laughing here.

    So disappointed...

    • Written by from Canton

I love, love, love Apple products - have had the first gen iPad for years, finally splurged on a Macbook Air since I was going off to college, and switching to the iPhone once my cell phone plan ends.

But the Macbook Air's thinner charger cord is terrible worksmanship. As I type this, I've only owned the laptop for TWO MONTHS (August 25 - October 28).

The rubber coating split a couple weeks ago but only now are the wires bulging out so badly that I've been looking for "quick fixes". Right now, my "quick fix" is simply taping it up but the wires are still spilling out a little and that scares me a lot. Plus I can see that a few of the silver wires have already snapped where they're exposed.

I always wrap it up after using it and keep it separate from everything else in my bookbag, so I'm very sad that it's already breaking and will cost $80 to replace if I can't keep it from splitting any more. It looks like a lot of other people are facing similar issues in terms of the rubber simply splitting inexplicably, so I wish Apple would get this fixed quickly!

    Count me among the failures...

    • Written by from New York

Well... clearly this should become a class-action lawsuit. My 45W MacBook Air adapter just stopped working today - about 14 months after I bought the machine. I am disgusted to see that so many people are suffering from this issue and Apple does nothing to sort it out. Disappointed!!

    Good concept, terrible reliability

    • Written by from Simsbury

Got the MacBook Air for Christmas last year, the power adapter worked perfectly for 3 months. After that it started having trouble connecting through to the computer for the next 6 months and got progressively worse and worse. Now it works about 5% of the time. Which wouldn't be so terrible except the battery only lasts about 2 hours. The power adapter cord is much cooler than any PC adapter I have ever had, but at least the PC adapters worked. I do not know what the issue is, but Apple can certainly afford to fix it. I am hoping Apple will replace it since it has been less than a year, but somehow I doubt it based on the plethora of terrible reviews.

So you are here as I am... Thei is my fourth Magsafe buy... The product is flawed and overpriced... And you are trapped because you spent over a thousand dollars on your laptop... Join the club... $240 of adapters so far...

MagSafe Power Adapter only lasts less than 13 months

    • Written by from Westmount

Bought my girlfriend a macbook air for her birthday. A year later and the power cable no longer works.

I see that I am not alone.

Poor quality part. If you are having problems with it (as we did), change it before the guarantee runs out.

    Failed

    • Written by from Lemoyne

Love the design. But it failed. Like many other reviewers here, I've only been using it for a short time. In my case, 14 months. So now I get to buy another one for $80.

These chargers are awful and then to replace it you have to spend $80. This is my first Apple computer and may be my last. This is crazy.

Failed in less than two years

    • Written by from Washington

Wire failed at the junction between the cord and l-shaped connector. The white cover melted, split, and is now shrinking with internal insulation exposed.

Took it to the apple store in pentagon city to no avail. Not sure how this one is any different from the first gen magsafe adaptors (I replaced four of those from 2006-2010 on three different macbook pros). Unbelievable.

    Failed despite careful minding.

    • Written by from Edinburgh

This power cable failed inexplicably after 13 months (just outside warrenty) despite careful minding. I have to join the calls here for a recall and apple to replace these cables for free. I wonder if Apple will respond...

If I could have given zero stars I would have. This is not what to expect when spending over £1000 on a laptop.

Sending broken charger back to Apple

    • Written by from Winthrop harbor

I just received the replacement power charger from Apple @$83 for a Mac Air that I have had about 9 months.
With the same packaging of my new charger, I am packing it up and sending it to Apple Corporate headquarters, with the cord highlighted with orange marker areas where it is split. Three areas in total... near the square adapter box ( it actually frayed and separated from the adapter box), in the middle of the cord, and at the junction of the connector.
Apple may not look at it or do anything, but that charger is worthless to me, and if Apple chooses to stick their heads in the sand, it is up to them.

Failed in less than 2 years.

    • Written by from Islamorada

Very disappointed in this charger. It's failed in less than 2 years and now I have to pay $79 for a new one. Based on so many bad reviews, there is an obvious problem with these. Apple should offer some kind of reduced rate to replace these... but you know they won't.

Another burned out 45W MacBook Air power supply

    • Written by from Fremont

This product form my experience has a higher than normal burn out rate. The design of this power supply adapter is in question. I am now on the third 45W power supply adapter in 2 years. Other power supplies of apple products last the life of the machine. Apple what is your recommendation?
