MacBook Air Power Adapter - Poor.

I have had my MacBook Air just over 13 months. Guess from the sounds of it I have been *lucky* as my power adapter has just now failed. Unfortunately, I do not have the AppleCare so I will be eating the 80.00 for a new one. Has anyone discovered if there is a reset button to try prior to opening a new one and trying it? I'm a little frustrated as Apple has a great product and after 13 months they begin to fail....I've been VERY happy with my computer; however, the power cord and I also understand the battery doesn't last long either...about 2 years. Guess that bridge well cross next. I just think they should have a better warranty on a computer that costs so much...Good luck with you Power Adapters!

If I could give it zero stars

I've had my MacBook Air a year. I love the thing, but I hate this power chord. IT's badly designed; it doesn't last. I have a lot of apple products, and this power chord is the worst product by far! The power chord kinks precisely at the point where it becomes flexible, and now mine is cracked there, so I'm buying a new power chord and anticipate that I'll have to buy this power chord next year because I use the usb port a lot, and that means the power chord is often kinked.

If I were apple, I'd give people new power chords when they broke for this model. Admit that it's a design flaw, fix it with good customer service, or I'd offer another power supply that didn't have this flaw.

I'm not queen of the universe yet, however, so instead, I'm doomed to pay another 80 dollars to Apple and write a bad review. Makes me feel impotent, the opposite emotion, I suspect from what Apple would like me to feel...

was working great for the first couple months then it would occasionally not work. This problem got worse and worse and now my adapter does not work at all. I have done everything on apple's troubleshooting page and it still will not power my new macbook air. great computer but the adapter is horrendous.

Um, within two weeks of using the DC connector, the magnetic end broke off and had to be pulled out of my Macbook with needlenose pliers. Boo. Now I have to pay $80 to replace the whole charging system when all I need is the cord.

I have the MacBook Air and I love it. It works great for what I need. But being a student replacing things gets expensive. I just bought a superdrive which was eighty bucks and now I need a new power cable. It's ridiculous.

i've been a Mac user for 9 years now and I won't debate their quality when it comes to the design of their MacBooks, iPads, and iPhones. but I will say I've had to replace my chargers on all of those products before the life of the machine ran out.
My MacBookPro is only a year old and the charger crapped out and a had to replace it.

I love the design of the charger and it continued to work (I'm almost at one year with it) but it just started splitting at the seams and unraveling especially at groove where you tuck in the free end of the cord. I tried to tape it with electrical tape but it just got absolutely disgusting.
Granted, it still works but I don't like exposed wires. For something that retails for 80 dollars, the cable jacket shouldn't spontaneously split. I went to get another one and hopefully it will not unwrap.

I love the magsafe design and the ability to switch the high voltage cord for different situations. Unfortunately, the power adapter failed after about 7 months of light use.

I have had my MacBook Air since December 2010. My power adapter no longer works. It just stopped working. There is nothing wrong with the cord. No fraying, no excessive wear and tear. I am disappointed that this already needs to be replaced!!! And it is NOT cheap!!!!

Apple has a history of turning out lousy power adapters. This one is no exception. It's the usual problem this time around: the cord end that attaches to the magnetic connector has broken and frayed. It's a nuisance and a fire hazard. They have some gall to charge us $80+ to fix a hardware defect. One might reasonably conclude that this is all by design. I'm surprised that Apple hasn't been sued over this.

    Great downside to Macs

I always complained of other hardware brands for windows, and now this MacBook Air 11" with Lion, less than 3 months old just doesn't charge. If it suddenly charges, don't move the Mac at all until it's full and then use it. It's a real huge problem. You buy this wonderful machine for portability and it's exactly what's lacking. Please do some re-engineering on your factories and deliver a new power supply. I never had that problem with any other brand.

i had two failed within a year. since i had heard they were easy to break, i've been really careful when using those adaptors. i kept one at home and never have the cable bent anywhere nor pull it hard. now they still look like new but I have to throw them away. I feel i bought the most expensive pieces of garbage and you do not have choices but keep buying those. I would have given it zero star if I could

    This Charger Is Garbage

First one failed within weeks of owning it and now a little after a year this one is garbage as well. Not paying $79 for another one. Going with the aftermarket for $20 and take my chances. Can't be any worse than going with the $79 Apple product knowing it will fail. Seems everyone is unhappy with their chargers. With $176B in total assets you would think they could get this right and do good by their customers.

Absolutely dissatisfied with this item. Had gotten it on the 14th, and within seven days, the charger had caused damage to itself. Over the weekend it stopped charging properly and I had decided to call after the holiday was over, but that was a mistake.

    Failed Power Cord. Poor Design.

    • Written by from Lubbock

16 of 17 people found this useful

Like most other reviewers, the wires in my 45W MagSafe Power Adapter for my 2011 MacBook Air started to come out of the very thin power supply wire after a mere ten months of use and now must be replaced. Because my laptop is 19 days out of warranty, Apple has refused to replace my power adapter. I love using Apple products but, clearly, this power adapter has a faulty design, and Apple has put forth no effort in solving the customer satisfaction problem for those of us who have "new" laptops that are "out of warranty." An Apple-designed power cord, regardless of the cost, should last more than ten months.

    Very disappointed!
