13 Month old 45W Macbook Air Power adapter just died...

    • Written by from Toledo

No fraying, separating, cracks, etc. Hardly moved or unplugged from the outlet, but the green light, (or any light) for that matter, does not come on anymore. I've never had a problem with a MagSafe adapter (had 2 other ones) and was surprised to see all of these problems. I never even wind mine up. (Maybe 2 or 3 times since I've owned it. After looking at a lot of these, it's obviously a product flaw. Hopefully there will be a recall etc. This is unacceptable Apple.

    Bad power adapter common problem

    • Written by from Vancouver

My Air is exactly one year old, barely used and never taken of the house. The power adapter already stopped working and it's not the extender as we tested that part on another Mac. Apple has it set up so you can't buy just the adapter by itself. You have to buy both for $79.00. It looks like this is a common problem and they need to do the ethical thing and recall.

    New cord is not working

    • Written by from North BARRINGTON

Have had MacBook Air for less than 6 months--cord has remained in one place at my work station and has failed twice now--I use my machine for business--one more reason pushing me back to PC world for reliability in business world.
Problem occurs randomly--unpredictable and very very problematic.

    Use a blow dryer

    • Written by from Summerside

Ditto the comments above. My charger died after 3 months. I was going to order a new one (definitely overpriced) and I read the comment about warming the charger up. I tried warming mine a couple of minutes with a blow dryer and now it charges just fine. Save your $79 for something else.
Please make a more reliable charger for the otherwise amazing Macbook air.

3 chargers in less than 18 months

    • Written by from Stanley

I just ordered my third charger. I thought maybe I was too rough with the first one and took the blame for its failure; however, although I was super careful with the second one, it has stopping working as well. PLEASE Apple, re-design this item. I love Apple and other issues that the MacBook Air have had over the years have been improved. PLEASE?????

    Terrible product

    • Written by from Vancouver

I have had my Macbook Air for a year and a month, and now (just passed warranty expiry) the Mgsafe charger stopped working... other chargers work fine... really not what you expect from Apple, a chronic defect such as this... I wonder if anyone at Apple reads through these reviews.

I tried SMC reset, cleaning connectors, checking for stuck pins, etc... nothing seems to work.

im a teen that had to pay 80 dollars for a charger

    • Written by from knoxville

My school gave us Macbook Airs for school use. I am in high school and have had the charger since september and all of a sudden the wires became exposed and I had to use the money i'm saving for college to buy a new charger. They need to make a charger that lasts longer

    Terrible Quality

    • Written by from Seattle

As much as I love my Macbook Air, the power cord is piece of absolute rubbish. I'm on my third cord in just over a year. The rubber on both have failed (at about 3 months old) up near where it plugs into the computer, leaving the wires exposed. I have repaired both with electrical tape, but after a couple months both have quit working altogether. This is completely unacceptable for a $79.00 product.

    We're ANGRY!

    • Written by from New york

Can we give this no star? This product does not last, and now my boyfriend and I take turns buying the adapter every month. I guess it's your turn, darling.

Magsafe Power Adaptor - Macbook air

    • Written by from Arvada

Had written a prior review about this adaptor which started to work only intermittently. Would not work when it was cold. Brought it to the Apple Store and after diagnostic run, they replaced it with a new one - no baloney. Of course, I was only 8 months into my warranty. Never the less - I was impressed with Apple's service. So I won't necessarily go back to the dark side (pc's) laughing here.

MagSafe Power Adapter only lasts less than 13 months

    • Written by from Westmount

Bought my girlfriend a macbook air for her birthday. A year later and the power cable no longer works.

I see that I am not alone.

Poor quality part. If you are having problems with it (as we did), change it before the guarantee runs out.

    Failed despite careful minding.

    • Written by from Edinburgh

This power cable failed inexplicably after 13 months (just outside warrenty) despite careful minding. I have to join the calls here for a recall and apple to replace these cables for free. I wonder if Apple will respond...

If I could have given zero stars I would have. This is not what to expect when spending over £1000 on a laptop.

Failed in less than 2 years.

    • Written by from Islamorada

Very disappointed in this charger. It's failed in less than 2 years and now I have to pay $79 for a new one. Based on so many bad reviews, there is an obvious problem with these. Apple should offer some kind of reduced rate to replace these... but you know they won't.

Low quality power cord on Mac Air

    • Written by from Zeeland

Love the Mac Air...but power cord is not good. It appears to be ongoing problem for many. Root cause seems to be the two-pronged adapter where connection is poor. Of course...this item is not sold separately...so $80 for new plug...:(

    Unreliable at 1 yr point

Works intermittently after only 1 year of use? Apple...you are better than this. Redesign or lower price or deliver with multiples...something!

    Hot and broken

    • Written by

I bought this power adaptor in august of last year as my old/original one called it quits. I originally loved the new design of the 90 degree angle, but it soon started to show the same problems where it had to be in a certain position in order to charge, and now it gets hotter than any computer component ever should.

    Unacceptable

    • Written by from Hastings

I am a Tech specialist for a small school district. We issued Macbook Airs to students in August of 2012. As of April, 2013, I have approximately 45-50 that have failed. This represents better than a 20 percent failure rate. The cables on the adapters fail, usually the failure is internal and not detectable with the eyes. Apple includes winding hooks with the adapter that seem to exaggerate the problem, the tight wind encouraged by these hooks causes a sharp bend at the base of the cable. For the price of the Macbooks, and the price of the replacement adapters, I would certainly expect better.

Expensive computer with a 50 cent power adapter

    • Written by from Elizabethtown

The power adapters are absolute junk. They fail on an almost monthly basis. Cannot understand why Apple will sell you a laptop that cost three time more than the competition but includes a power adapter that is absolute trash.

Bad product with a ridiculous price

    • Written by from Bangalore

I have been having the adapter for almost 12 months now for my Air Mac and the wire is very frail. It has developed cracks and I have been managing some how. Looking at the price of the adapter I am sure it's definitely not worth it.

Charges the MacBook Air... until it doesn't

    • Written by from Helena

When it was working, the adapter was great. The magnetic connector stays connected reasonably well (at least as well as a traditional connector), and it does what it is supposed to do. I really like that it has the option of a long or short power cord: makes travel very easy.

HOWEVER, mine just stopped working this weekend. There is no physical damage, the cord has never been pulled on, strained or anything. For the last few months it has not been disconnected from its surge-protected power strip. It has just... stopped. I'm bringing it to the Apple store tonight, and hopefully they will have mercy on me and replace it without my needing to spend $90 or so on a new one. Unfortunately, from looking at reports on the web it seems that this kind of failure is typical of these adapters. This will factor into my purchase plans when I am shopping for a replacement notebook.

Pros: compact, easy to travel with
Cons: not overly robust, expensive to replace
