    Apple Power Cord

    • Written by from Rifle

I don't know what all the complaining is about. Yes the cords are expensive, but i have had the same power cord for the last 8 years it has never failed me and it works like a charm. I get so tired of people complaining about the cost of Mac stuff. These same people are willing to spend a third of the cost for "cheep" items, but they have to replace them 5 times more often.

    Several units, only 1 bad

I manage 30 mobile stations and have been doing so for five years. In that time, I've had one, ONE bad unit that died after a few months. I brought it to my Apple retail store and they replaced it with no questions.

    Great stuff

I've owned Apple products for over 20 years. Each year new and better products keep coming out. I'm a proud owner of a MBA late 2010 and simply love it. I also own 2 power chargers, the original and the extra one for my office. Both continue to work great. Both with power surge protection. If you do not have a power surge protector with it and have a power failure, the minute the power comes back on - you will receive a power surge which is death to the charger. In my opinion, don't blame apple for your faults, sorry. I must admit that I had a Titanium PowerMac where I had issues which I sent to Apple Care. I also sent in my charger. They repaired the PowerMac and replaced my frail charger "at no cost" because part of apple care. So buy your Apple Care. It's worth its weight in gold.
    Peace to all.

I love it, sometimes a few people on the internet sound like a crowd. I've found that my power adapter is totally reliable, and most people who post a review will only post if there is something negative to say.

Getting a second to keep in my briefcase

I've had my Air for over a year and subject this adapter heavy use. I unplug and wrap it every day to take with me on the road. After forgetting to pack it a few times, I've squeaked by on the battery, but have finally decided to get a second one. My original is in great shape (and seems much more flexible than the chargers I've seen for the MacBooks).

    Great Charger

Reading the other 70+ reviews, it looks to me like someone with an agenda is trying to trash this charger. Notice that there are a disproportionate number of 1-star reviews that look like they are from the same author.
I wanted a second one for other locations in the house and, not liking Apple's price on these, I have purchased several cheap knockoffs in the $25-50 range. All have failed. I have concluded that when it comes to chargers, this is one area where it doesn't pay to scrimp. The superior design compared with Windows chargers gets it 2 stars right away. (compact, magsafe, flexible cord that lays flat, convenient cord windup, cord clip, interchangeable plugs, etc.) The fact that mine works flawlessly after 1 year of use gets it 5 stars.

    Amazing Product Compared to Alternatives

    • Written by from Kent

I use my charger every single day of my life. Most people, I must assume, do.

Every day I wind and unwind the cord several times. I plug it in at airports, I plug it in at my desk, and I plug it in at night. It gets moved, beaten, wound, unwound, dragged, and anything else you can imagine. I'm rough on tech.

The rubber coating does wear out and starts to get holes in it after you bend and wind it enough. The pins/springs wear out after you connect and disconnect it a few thousand times. It gets dirty and needs to be cleaned like any other electronic connector. (Easy to fix with some rubbing alcohol, cotton swabs, and a youtube video).

What I don't understand is why people are inclined to give it a bad review. The alternatives in other laptops do not protect your computer from someone tripping over the wire. None I have ever seen roll up as conveniently as this one does. Few connect as easily, and I haven't seen any that connect backwards and still work. If I have to sacrifice a little wear and tear for those features, I'll gladly buy a new one.

It took mine about a year to die. That's $79 divided by 365 days, or roughly $0.22 per day to have a working charger and keep my MacBook Air going. Even if you replaced it every 6 months, that's $0.44 per day to keep your laptop going. For something that is this important to my life, my job, my enjoyment, I don't think that is too unreasonable.

Plan to replace it. Use it. Break it. They're really cheap for what they provide.

I have never had issues with this charger for my MacBook Air. I did have to replace it once since my dog thought it would be fun to chew through the entire cord (not Apples fault). I think it's important that you wrap the cord around the base and don't crinkle it up and throw it in your bag. I see a lot of bad reviews and I think that's because people are just crumpling up the wire. My friend has gone through 3 and she treats her chargers horribly, so I can see why it gets bad reviews. I think if you take care of your things, they'll take care of you.

    45W MagSafe A-OK for Me!

My original 45W MagSafe Power Adapter has been working quite well for the almost 1-1/2 years that I have had my 13-inch MacBook Air. I am getting another so that I can keep one at home and keep the other in my brief case so that I don't leave home without a charger.

I've never had a problem with my MacBook Pro power cord. I love how it disconnects without breaking or jerking the computer whenever it gets accidentally tripped on or pulled out. It doesn't wrap very easily when I put it in my computer bag, but that's not really worth complaining about when it's so much better than regular PC adaptors.

Mag Safe 45W is just fine

    • Written by from McKinney

I have looked at the reviews on the 45W mag safe. To be fair, I have the original macbook air. It came with the original charger. I have had no (zero, nada) problems that people are stating in this thread. I agree that if you don't attach it correctly to the adapter hole, it is a bit tricky to get in, but so is your door key to your home or apartment, if you think about it. No complaining there. I will get an 85W the next purchase (I am getting one for my workplace - and my co-workers have the bigger beasts) but it is not because my 45W is failing.

    My Favorite!

Let my start with a brief story:
I was working on my Macbook air when the battery was low and I plugged it in. Because there were no outlets on my side of the hall I draped the chord across the hall. I did not expect anyone to come but when someone walked by me they a) did not trip/fall/hurt themselves or b) ruin my laptop.
So yes this is a little expensive but honestly I would rather pay for the more expensive charger than break my laptop.

Also: I am not quite sure why there are so many negative reviews, my charger is fine.

This standard wall charger works great. Would be nice if Apple would have a cigar lighter charger also. Otherwise, we have to hunt for other makers and not sure of quality.

it's the same as what comes with the MBA

works fine and is a good spare cord - identical to what came with the new MBA out of the box.

If you want a shorter cord, like all other mac chargers you can slide off the piece on the white "box" and then add the a/c adapter. But there's no getting away from the white box.
