    Looks great. Doesn't work.

    • Written by from Saint Paul

No fraying, no hard use, but no power going through it from wall to computer. And $79 for replacement is just an insult.

    Ban of my Existence

    • Written by from Hawkinsville

I just bought myself a new MacBook Air about a month ago and love it! I dislike the the new adapter from Apple®! I owned a MacBook for over four years and the power adapter is rolling like new! I know you’ve got the money Apple! It’s already starting to show wear near the tip of the adapter! Most of all, one of the “ears” where you would wrap the wire around to store for travel…. broken! Please lower the price of a new adapter!

Innovative product with one glaring deficiency: durability.

    • Written by from New York

I admire Apple's attempts to innovate around adaptor cables - magnetic DC, storage capability, etc - which is why I gave it 2 stars and not 0, but all of that is for naught if the cable doesn't last….and it never has. Every mac portable I've owned has had the same problem: cable fraying. This is a glaring deficiency that when coupled with the fact they cost an exorbitant amount to replace, make the product just seem laughable. It's time apple put the feature game on hold as far as these adaptors are concerned (magnetic DC, thin cables, etc), and focused on making the cables more durable, notably at the joints.

    Poor quality

    • Written by from Houston

My charger lasted a year and a half before the wire BROKE OFF. I am not at all rough with my charger, so there is absolutely no reason, aside from poor quality, that this should have happened.

    High price for low reliability

    • Written by from Hemet

I have been using the power adapter that came with my 2011 MacBook Air, and after less than a year, the adapter stopped charging (I tested different cords, so I know the problem is with the adapter itself). For a piece of hardware costing around $80 USD, a certain amount of quality is expected. This should not fail within a year. As much as I like the design, the use of a magnetic connector, and the heat sensor, the reliability issue is a major, glaring flaw. If Apple wishes to maintain the image of solid hardware, the company needs to offer reliable parts, including the power adapter.

im a teen that had to pay 80 dollars for a charger

    • Written by from knoxville

My school gave us Macbook Airs for school use. I am in high school and have had the charger since september and all of a sudden the wires became exposed and I had to use the money i'm saving for college to buy a new charger. They need to make a charger that lasts longer

    Broke after just a year

    • Written by from Williamsville

Worked fine until the cord ripped on the thinner side of the adapter. I don't wrap it up like crazy or anything I just put it my backpack like a normal person and it breaks after just over a year. God I hope there are third party adaptors....

    Didn't last

    • Written by from Vallejo

This is the only faulty Apple product I've ever encountered. The power cord just stopped working today, yet my MacBook Air is less than six months old! I certainly hope it's covered by the warranty, but the other reviews here seem to imply that this is not an unusual problem. Come on, Apple, get it fixed!

It doesn't last long enough for this price.

    • Written by from Boca Raton

Just a few days ago this charger stopped working so now I'm going to have to pay 80 dollars for a new one. I haven't been rough with it at all. I had it for almost a year and as soon as the end of my first year of having it is approaching it just breaks. It did show signs that it was breaking but I just took it as it just being faulty and it would go back to normal. Its really nice looking but they need to work on the durability of this. Btw I have the 45W magsafe macbook air charger. My mom told me to be careful with it but regardless of how careful you are it'll happen.

Charges the MacBook Air... until it doesn't

    • Written by from Helena

When it was working, the adapter was great. The magnetic connector stays connected reasonably well (at least as well as a traditional connector), and it does what it is supposed to do. I really like that it has the option of a long or short power cord: makes travel very easy.

HOWEVER, mine just stopped working this weekend. There is no physical damage, the cord has never been pulled on, strained or anything. For the last few months it has not been disconnected from its surge-protected power strip. It has just... stopped. I'm bringing it to the Apple store tonight, and hopefully they will have mercy on me and replace it without my needing to spend $90 or so on a new one. Unfortunately, from looking at reports on the web it seems that this kind of failure is typical of these adapters. This will factor into my purchase plans when I am shopping for a replacement notebook.

Pros: compact, easy to travel with
Cons: not overly robust, expensive to replace

    Annual purchase?

    • Written by from Chevy Chase

My MBA is only a year old and I'm purchasing a new adapter already. Sure hope this isn't an annual purchase requirement. Love the computer not so pleased with the adapter.

The design, size and weight are great though if those are criteria important to you.

    Looks nice but fails fast

    • Written by from ROTTERDAM

I like the design. A lot. It's light, always fits in your bag and it's magnetic. However, after 13 months of usage (that is, charging my Air maybe like 20 times because my Thunderbolt screen does the charging mainly) it failed.

I've treated it with a lot of care, because I know how fragile these things are. But this is kinda ridiculous. I'll make sure it gets replaced for free, warranty or not. It's just so disappointing that it's going to take me a lot of talking just to get what I paid for.

    So disappointed...

    • Written by from Canton

I love, love, love Apple products - have had the first gen iPad for years, finally splurged on a Macbook Air since I was going off to college, and switching to the iPhone once my cell phone plan ends.

But the Macbook Air's thinner charger cord is terrible worksmanship. As I type this, I've only owned the laptop for TWO MONTHS (August 25 - October 28).

The rubber coating split a couple weeks ago but only now are the wires bulging out so badly that I've been looking for "quick fixes". Right now, my "quick fix" is simply taping it up but the wires are still spilling out a little and that scares me a lot. Plus I can see that a few of the silver wires have already snapped where they're exposed.

I always wrap it up after using it and keep it separate from everything else in my bookbag, so I'm very sad that it's already breaking and will cost $80 to replace if I can't keep it from splitting any more. It looks like a lot of other people are facing similar issues in terms of the rubber simply splitting inexplicably, so I wish Apple would get this fixed quickly!

    LED doesn't light up

    • Written by from Antioch

The little green led fails to light, and so I'm assuming it's not working. I used to think it was the extension power cord (by the way, enough with the sliding parts, just give me a one piece cord like the iPod/iPad/IPhones), but the same thing happens with the thin adapter part. Sometimes it would go on, but didn't know why. Now, it is not going on at all, and I'm getting ready for a trip to Chicago. I guess my first stop will be the Apple store to get an expensive adapter in order to do any work on it. You'd think spending almost 2 grand on a laptop would result in a bullet proof adapter. It is now exactly a year old. I'm only giving it a second star, because it did sort of last a year (without the extension cord after it failed to work with that).

I have the MacBook Air and I love it. It works great for what I need. But being a student replacing things gets expensive. I just bought a superdrive which was eighty bucks and now I need a new power cable. It's ridiculous.

13months new and insertion site to adapter is bent out of shape. this causes inconsistent charging. 'too soon' I say. and the price...lets not go there. the best thing is the magnetic hold to the laptop.
