    Apple 45W adapter not work

    • Written by from Cieszanow

Well, i bought my macbook pro air month ago then suddenly stopped charging until i saw the information about cleaning the magnetic area with tooth pic.
That was very helpful thank you so much guys

    Looks great. Doesn't work.

    • Written by from Saint Paul

No fraying, no hard use, but no power going through it from wall to computer. And $79 for replacement is just an insult.

    Good laptop, bad charger

Even with hardly any use, this power adapter stopped working. I'm using my Cinema Display to charge the laptop and waiting for a recall.

    Garbage

    • Written by from 江戸川区

I have two macbook airs, and both chargers failed after a few months. I bought replacements -- one of them has failed too, after only 2 months, only charging when it wants to, mostly not at all.
also BTW, the price for the replacements is just stupid.
    Bad experience from Apple.

    Power cord issue

    • Written by from Lake Worth

For those who have a problem with the cord not working after a period - Try cleaning (with a Q-tip or tooth pic) the end of the cord plug where it attaches to the computer and the plug on the computer. Dirt can become stuck to either of those and prohibit good contact. The plug on the computer is magnetic so small metal particles can attach to that. The cable itself is an extremely poor design. Apple and it's engineers should hide their heads in shame for letting this issue go on for so long. They were kind enough to give me a new charger just before my warranty expired last August but it's starting to look like that one is beginning to weaken. I extended the life of the original cord with electrical tape. Common people, where's your work ethic? Where's your sense of pride? When I do a job, I take care to do it well and I expect you to take care of the people who you are selling these "known" cheap power cords to. A product is only as good as it's weakest link.

    Going through 1 a year

    • Written by from Victoria

I've only had my laptop for 2 years and now have to get my 3rd power adapter. Obviously a design problem here, maybe Apple could come up with a solution, not only for the new models, but one that all our old models can use as well.

After 1 Year of Use: So far so good..

    • Written by from Kanata

I have read a lot of bad reviews about the 45W MagSafe adapter, but after one year of use it is still working fine for me.

I have had my Macbook Retina for a year and the adapter is plugged in and unplugged on a daily basis going from home to office. The connector stays in place on my Mac and rarely falls off except for those times when I move my Mac at an odd angle, in which case it does come off as designed, in order to prevent it from snagging or breaking the connector.

My only complaint/concern (reason for 4/5 stars) is that the cord from the power adapter to the Macbook is very thin (compared to the cord that plugs into the wall outlet) and it has a tendency to kink when it is rolled up or unrolled. I am not sure if this part of the adapter cord will fail prematurely over time due to kinking, but I am aware of it and therefore take care when handling the adapter.

    I can't believe it.

    • Written by from Houston

Apple is suppose to be customer friendly. I just bought a new power adapter and not 8 hours later, the cord is frayed. What gives? Where is Apple QA when needed. And it appears from the rest of the reviews that this is a major problem. Who is manufacturing this junk???

    Failed once again

    • Written by from jeanerette

I have bought Apple computers exclusively for the past 15 years but am seriously frustrated with the poor quality of their components. Just purchased my third adapter for my MacBook Air in 18 months time. It was working intermittently for a while, then stopped completely. I had the same problem with my previous Power Book G4, although the adapters for that one actually began sparking and smoking before they died. At the very least the MagSafe adapters do not appear to be fire hazards.

Terrible quality. The last Mac i will ever use.

    • Written by from Singapore

Recently bought a Macbook air mid 2013. After 8 months, the wire got exposed for no reason. Brought it to Local Store and they charged me for new charger even I bought AppleCare for it. They claimed hardware damage is not covered. Disappointed 2nd time. Will not use a Mac anymore.

HORRIBLE product. 4th one in 5 years. Next cumputer will be a PC.

    • Written by from Fort Collins

I don't even know if I'll be able to write this, seeing as my computer is dying and my charger only intermittently works. This is the 4th charger I have had to buy (and my second 1-star review for this same product). Like others, I thought perhaps it was my problem, so I've tried my best to never bend or wrap the cords, my computer spends 90% of it's time in the same place, but it still breaks! I have tears in the plastic exposing live wire. This is ridiculous and a waste of money. My husband has a PC and here I've been trying to convince him to switch to Mac for years, but now him and I both will be sticking with PCs. He's had his SAME charge for 5 years and it has never had an issue!!!

    What the heck Apple!

I think we all need to go crazy with social media, spread the word until we are all given improved replacements. This is a joke.

    Ban of my Existence

    • Written by from Hawkinsville

I just bought myself a new MacBook Air about a month ago and love it! I dislike the the new adapter from Apple®! I owned a MacBook for over four years and the power adapter is rolling like new! I know you’ve got the money Apple! It’s already starting to show wear near the tip of the adapter! Most of all, one of the “ears” where you would wrap the wire around to store for travel…. broken! Please lower the price of a new adapter!

    Charger

    • Written by

I have already been through 6 chargers over 3 years. This is extremely disappointing. I got a new charger 2 months ago and the charger has ALREADY FRAYED! Seriously? 80 dollars for your cheap and faulty charger? No way, I'm forgetting all macs and getting an Asus. Until you (Mac) can either improve the charger and keep it at 80 dollars or make the charger cheaper, this is absolutely crazy.

Just plan to buy a new one every year

    • Written by from Raleigh

Already on my third in about two years. These things fry and stop working at the slightest provocation. Fail conditions include: daily use, being more than six months old, barometric pressure, and harsh language. At least they are inexpensive---oh HO! Not remotely. Good work on this one, Apple.

Unreliable and replacement cost is ridiculous

    • Written by from Brampton

The power adapter that was supplied with my MacBook Air only works intermittently, so I have no choice but to pay the outrageous price for a replacement. There should be a recall on this item and free replacements offered.

    Innovative but not durable

    • Written by from Reno

Apple's MagSafe chargers reflect the thought and detail that goes into its products. The magnetic connector is convenient, the amber/green LED is a simple way to let the user know if the notebook is charging/charged, the built-in cable management lets the user put the adapter away neatly, and the swappable prong is very nice when traveling abroad or for just plugging in the extension cable. It does all of that while still managing to keep a very clean design in small, portable package. The MagSafe power adapter is generally superior to most other chargers from almost all other brands, or it at least seems to be.

However, the charger is generally not durable and seems even quite flimsy. My particular charger remained in the same spot for three years and was rarely ever moved, but about halfway into my second year of using it the charger started working only intermittently. The intermittence became progressively worse until it just stopped working all together. There is no visible stress, fraying, or other damage on my unit. For $80, that really isn't very good—especially when I own much older, cheaper notebooks that still have working chargers, and more often than not the charger outlives the notebook. That does not seem to be the case with Apple's power adapters, and I wish that weren't the case.
